I been inside once to check it out as it was a new place for me. The whole layout was quite beautiful. A cool modern cigar lounge bar feel. Didn't stay as I just wanted to check it out. Fast forward to this past weekend for the USA World Cup game. We originally were planning on attending the street party that was happening on Pine Ave in downtown for the game. But when we arrived, there was a massive line just to get in. Just from the looks of it, the line didn't seemed to move and the game was starting. That's how we ended up here. The bar is just off the promenade in downtown. Clearly, there was no way we're waiting in the line for the street party. Instead, we remembered and seen this place. They too were showing the game so we walked in. There was a good amount of people on the patio area which they also had a television. Inside was a bit more mellow but it was picking up. With this bar, we got to sit down and enjoy the game with a nice cold beer. Happy hour was going on so they were having specials on drinks. Within minutes, it was starting to get packed as everyone was doing the same thing. Instead of waiting in line and the game was starting, this place was a better option. A nice open vibe bar. Plenty of seating inside as well as the outside patio which was pretty big as well. The ladies behind the bar were amazing. Busy as they were trying to take care of everything and everyone. Drink specials did sound nice but we opted for the happy hour beer. Bar area was quite roomy with communal tables as well a private table. Bar seating was great as the television was right in-front of you. The tufted leather seats, leather high top seats give it that cigar lounge. A cool spot right in the heart of downtown Long Beach. They didn't serve food but was informed that hat someone was serving classic hot dog and burger out front. Having walked in and enjoying this place, it was worth it. Also one of the bartender that worked at another place we've been to also worked here. The whole place was nice and greatly enjoyed. Will be back for sure. read more

Trade show at Long Beach Convention Center. The Stave is walking distance up the Promenade. Perfect place for a nice post show beverage to end the day. I invited some friends to The Apothecary, this past Saturday night. Unfortunately, "Midnight Oil" winds down at about midnight. I asked the bartender if they could recommend a bar nearby that was open until 2am. They recommended The Stave. As we walked The Prominade (the stretch between E 3rd St and 1st St), The Stave was only one of two bars open; and it was the most lively. The doorman was easy. Ordering at the bar was so nondescript, it's almost not worth commenting on. We had draft beers; the pricing was in range for an establishment of this sort. The interior decor was nice; and there was an outdoor patio, for good weather. On this night, there was a food stand offering tacos and bacon wrapped hotdogs. My primary observation of value is that I am surprised how there are few late night establishments in the vicinity of The Prominade. If you are looking for someplace with a little bit of energy, this might be it. read more

The service here was really slow the night of Thanksgiving despite the small crowd. Bartender didn't really know the single malt scotches available (despite the name of the bar) and gave me something completely different than what I ordered. Stave is a beautiful bar located on the Promenade with a great, dark ambience. They have a large selection of drinks, so there'll definitely be something for everybody. We had an awful experience at the Stave Bar last night. We were out celebrating our niece's birthday and decided to stop for a last drink since they had just called last call. In the short time we were there, our group was treated like absolute trash by a bartender named Soo. First off, she's way too old to be acting like some wannabe bartender and that attitude was unbearable. She came up to us demanding we place our orders immediately, which we did, but then had the nerve to say, "you all cross ordering," as if that's some kind of insult. Like, what the hell does that even mean? The drinks were simple, and she was clearly slow and couldn't handle taking orders properly. We repeated ourselves multiple times and she kept being sarcastic, like she was trying to provoke us for her own amusement. I was already pissed off and asked another bartender, who seemed decent enough, to take my order. Right as he was about to help, Soo butted in saying she was already assisting us, then just left him standing there. She then rudely asked me for my order again, so I told her I wanted someone else to take it because of her behavior. Her response? "Ha, enjoy the wait then." Are you serious? My nephews got upset at her rudeness, and when we told her she clearly lacked any customer service skills, she laughed and said "I don't care how you feel." She kept going back and forth to other customers, making snide remarks as she passed by us. When I asked my nephew for her name, she overheard and sarcastically said, "Oh I can't wait to see your review tomorrow," then laughed and walked away like this was some kind of joke. If that's the kind of pathetic excuse for staff you're hiring to serve customers, it's beyond disappointing. That's at least ten people who won't be coming back, and we'll make damn sure everyone we know hears about how terrible the service was. Looking for a late night "nite cap", we found The Stave Bar on the Long Beach Promenade. It is a large place with a nice patio space, as well. They specialize in whiskey craft cocktails....but can make most any drink you prefer. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable. There are lots of windows and a beautiful wood bar and backbar. It's has a very nice atmosphere. If you are visiting downtown, this is an excellent choice for a delicious beverage. read more

While my group of female friends and I were being harassed, the security guard stood by, watched, and even LAUGHED! My husband and I needed a spot to celebrate our civil wedding reception (nothing too big or fancy, w a bunch of 20 something year olds) and we had planned it to be on St. Patrick's day so finding a place that would work with us was difficult but Natalie was OUTSTANDING with any type of communication, assistance, and hospitality for me and my wedding party. She cleared off a section for my party of 30-40 and assisted us in picking and preordering some delicious pizzas for my guests and let us decorate. That night ended up amazing. The bartenders were all outstanding, the pizza was sooo good and I was just so delighted Natalie worked with us with so much compassion and interest. She really helped me make it a special and memorable day to celebrate with my friends and family. The drinks were strong and they had a good selection of whiskey and cocktails to choose from. I thought they didn't serve food, but when I looked at one of their menus (there are two), they had pizza to order until kitchen closes at 10 PM. Beer and pizza are ultimate combination, so I will try their pizza next time. Me & my date ordered drinks...I went back to the bar & complained about my drink being very weak..I asked for a small splash of alcohol & they declined & said I would need to pay more...no discount or offer to remake my drink either...then the white guy bartender (small tatt under his eye) said sarcastically, "With or without ur business, we're doing just fine sir"...so later on when I paid, I didn't leave a tip...when we both went to the restroom, the manager/bartender Tanya, walked over to the bathroom hallway & turned off the lights on us as we were both walking out the restroom...Tanya then said to my date, "He doesn't like to tip btw" & then walked off...we both walked by the bar as we were leaving & I said, "U can say that louder if you'd like to, my date already knows why I didn't tip u guys"...both bartenders said I was a cheap azz & the other bartender guy started yelling "boo" & "bye" none stop to us holding his thumbs down with both hands, in front of all the other people there also...this place is a joke...one of the worst services I've ever recieved...I called next day to complain & spoke to Tanya the manager & she tried to lie about everything just to cover her azz...I'm taking further action now...DO NOT GO HERE!!! read more

Came here to grab drinks after leaving an open mic night in Long Beach. I've always seen this place, but never visited until last night. I went with a group of around 8 people. There are options to grab seats at a table inside or outside on the patio area where they have cute fire pit tables. We just sat and stood around the bar area inside conversing and enjoying our drinks. The bartenders are really nice. I had questions about some of their specialty drinks and the bartender I talked to was very knowledgeable and gave great suggestions for my drinks. Drinks range from $10-$14 for most of their specialty cocktails. They seem to be known for their whiskey. I ended up getting a whiskey sour which was really good and an Old Fashion. It was a mixed crowd, pretty diverse. Nice bar if you want to just chill and enjoy drinks with friends. There's all day parking for $5 in the lot on Broadway and Long Beach blvd or you can find street parking. read more

The Stave is an awesome place for an event! We just had our second team event here and both times have had a great time. The staff is fantastic, they keep the drinks flowing with a smile. Natalie and Tania helped us get it organized and arranged for fantastic food to be served. They even broadcast our team's videos on the TVs! I've been here a couple of times in the past and have had good (if not adequate) drinks. I was actually shocked as to how bad my drinks were tonight. The first was a bit drab. The 2nd, downright bad. I had another friend taste it just to be sure. He confirmed my objections. My third was booze and a mixer. How that managed to get fucked up is a mystery to me. The staff definitely needs training.
