The Art Of Coffee - Seating outside the cafe - still inside the GPO arcade, so it's covered.

The coffee was strong, tasty and not over-roasted. Too many coffees are over-roasted. The foam wasn't the silkiest I've ever had but it was decent - I was expecting to be blown away by the foam since they advertise their barista awards outside the café (although some of the awards are for latte art, and mine had no art - wah!). I'm also giving them 4/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact. To-go drinks are delivered with no lid, encouraging customers to forgo the plastic. Soy and almond milk are available. Their beans are for sale in paper-based bags and they also sell them in 1 Kg sizes, reducing packaging a little. Most food on display (including sandwiches) is packaging-free (my current pet peeve is sandwiches in plastic clamshells). Along with their house blend they also offer a single-origin coffee, which changes every few months. Their Harcourt Rd. branch has a Saturday brunch menu that includes organic porridge, free-range eggs, and simple vegetarian fare like avocado toast. The main thing I'd like to know about is their coffee sourcing - sustainability and fair pricing. Their website and coffee packages don't offer any info on this. Have contacted them - will update if they reply! Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, contact me! (greenstarsproject)

Manning's, however, have certainly mastered their craft over the years, and consistently sell great cakes that look good and, more importantly, taste good. This particular Manning's sells sandwiches made to order, breads and a variety of cakes. The do the traditional range of cream cakes ( I have to put a word in here for their custard slice - creamy, sticky and probably very bad for you, but certainly very delicious). They also sell large cakes for birthdays, parties or even weddings and can personalise them for you. A great bakery which always stands out!

But then again, when held away from the messy tangle of food court offerings, this little coffee n' cake shop has a chance to shine. Offering a lovely selection of fairy cakes, scones buns and cream cakes (with the red stripe down the middle!) along to-order birthday cakes and a solid sandwich menu, Manning's is a saner stop off for tired shopping feet. The deals are quite good -€3.60 for cake and coffee, about €6ish if you make it a meal and throw a sandwich in. To sate your sweet tooth in bulk There's no reserved seating, so expect to search for a spot sit after getting your order.

Been here on a few occasions and for example, my most recent visit... It was a super cold winters day and I was looking forward to getting inside but they didn't really have much heat going on, many people still sitting with jackets and scarfs on, take the hint..!!! Also, it was 3pm and they had no sandwiches on display people had to ask for them and the lady seemed troubled to go out the back and bring a few options out... Plus for a great little cafe building and area, they have only pre-made sandwiches, ye know the kind in cardboard/plastic sleeves. They don't have any option to toast them and also pretty sad, they cut it into quarters and serve it on a plate... Eh, we all known I've just bought a cardboard sandwich, serving it to me in triangles doesn't make it any more gourmet. Also, 3pm... Cold winters day and they had ran out of soup, yep, no soup... Was half expecting her to say they had no hot water for my cup of tea, but it's ok, hot water was in stock :-) Service wise, they really could do with putting on a smile... There's little or no pleasantries from the staff which is such a shame and as a tourist hub, they don't give off that renowned Irish Charm.
