Go for a whopper walk up along the river, go over to the obelisk and imagine what it would have been like to have been hanging out with the Connolys and Johnathan Swifts and the likes, get a bitta wind in your hair, then get yourself over into the Courtyard Cafe in the grounds of the wonderful Castletown House, and get the warmth back in you. Get a nice sambo or hot meal and a lovingly made hot chocolate and cake to finish. You'll walk home with a spring in your step, guaranteed.

Run by a group of women and the lovely owner is from Enfield in county Meath. All the food from the farmhouse cafe comes from their farm and is made fresh everyday. The meat is from their animals and the bread and treats are baked in the cafe. I love how it has an old country house feel to it and the teacups and teapots are a random collection that look so pretty. My favourite thing from the menu was the Gammon sandwich. I no longer eat meat and this sandwich makes me struggle every time I see it on the menu. Oh the temptation.

The coffee was strong, tasty and not over-roasted. Too many coffees are over-roasted. The foam wasn't the silkiest I've ever had but it was decent - I was expecting to be blown away by the foam since they advertise their barista awards outside the café (although some of the awards are for latte art, and mine had no art - wah!). I'm also giving them 4/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact. To-go drinks are delivered with no lid, encouraging customers to forgo the plastic. Soy and almond milk are available. Their beans are for sale in paper-based bags and they also sell them in 1 Kg sizes, reducing packaging a little. Most food on display (including sandwiches) is packaging-free (my current pet peeve is sandwiches in plastic clamshells). Along with their house blend they also offer a single-origin coffee, which changes every few months. Their Harcourt Rd. branch has a Saturday brunch menu that includes organic porridge, free-range eggs, and simple vegetarian fare like avocado toast. One thing I appreciated about this spot was their iced offerings. Most shops I went to in Ireland were too big on iced options on the menu, so when I walked in and saw the board with big letters spelling "iced", I knew I had arrived! I went with an iced caramel latte and it was delicious! Normally caramel can be a bit synthetic tasting, but here, they did it just right. In addition to the coffee, we got a cinnamon roll to share.
