As we drove through Portal, we saw Pepper Jack's. I've been by it many times but never stopped. We decided to check it out and I'm so glad we did! The restaurant is just the right size for the small town. Order at the counter and your food is brought to your table. The menu included some deli sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, breakfast and dinner items. We both chose the fried flounder with two sides - I had a side salad and onion rings while my mom had potato salad and green beans. The fish was fried perfectly and it was not greasy at all. The onion rings were thick and tasty. I had their special Vidalia onion dressing on the salad and it was the perfect mixture of sweet and tang. The best part was the shocking low price. Our meals were $7.99 each! I don't think McD's is cheaper and certainly cannot compare food quality! Super friendly and helpful staff with big smiles and great attitudes.
