Homebird, you had me at hello! I have passed by Homebird a few times and always meant to call in…read morefor a coffee but today I finally did and boy I'm glad. Homebird is a warm comforting café in the heart of Holywood, it seems to beckon you in off the street and once inside you'll want to stay forever. It is deceptively large inside and decorated to create a light airy environment. They have a mix of traditional cafe style seating along with booths at the back for more intimate dining. Framed coffee sacks hang on the walls almost as a nod to what they specialize in. There's a nice outside seating area too and they have fleece blankets hanging just inside the door if the wind is sweeping up Holywood High Street. They do an excellent flat white and an even better breakfast. I went for the Eggs Benedict that was just over a fiver and took only five minutes from when I ordered it to when I had my first bite. The staff were friendly and attentive as soon as we stepped foot in the door, one thing I really like was that they put a large bottle of iced water on the table as soon as we were seated, this gave us something to sip at while we waited for our coffees. It's the little things like this that make a big impact. They have free Wifi and take coffee seriously here so for that reason it Homebird would make an excellent place to set up camp and work for an afternoon. All in all Homebird has something for everyone, a real jack of all trades and a true master of them all.

There is a delightful play area for children with a good selection of stimulating toys and books to suite most ages. There is easy access for prams so families can enjoy a Homebird treat. I also noted that there is a microwave for mums to heat bottles/ baby food. The menu is pleasing to the eye and even more pleasing to the palate. The service was efficient and friendly, portion sizes were just right and the food itself excellent. It was a pleasing experience all round and with free WIfI I can understand why it is such a popular place to eat.

I feel that it may be a type of Meil et Moi goes to Holywood Patisserie, coffee house & Eatery. It will serve fine coffees with small sweet bites of patisseries, which enhance the flavour of the coffee. The launch evening gave people a taster of some of the fine food that it will be serving. There were some tasty goats cheese, salmon and cucumber canapes and some charcuterie and tapanades which give a taster of the savoury foods in store. We were also treated to some prosecco follwed by a sample of the patisseries i.e Black fruit domes, Raspberry fruit domes, macaroons, mini cheescakes and a good selection of others. We were able to sneak away with some small rhubarb and apple crumble pies, cherry tarts and other little treats to try. They were delicious. I can't wait to call into the Living Room for lunch or afternoon coffee. Staff were all very friendly and the decor was classy, but relaxed and comfortable.

The young girl who served our party was delightful, very well presented and a good knowledge of the coffee. The young chap behind the counter has a smile that would please the unhappiest of person, a joy to watch. Although the establishment was very busy, this did not effect the quality of service. Fast and efficient. The manager even took the time to explain the whole concept of the Living Room and you really understand where they are coming from. Low tables are my only concern and as a larger man, It can pose a slight issue. I pointed this out to the manager and he explained why they did it that way and the plans going forward. He had so much passion about this business I was surprised to discover that he did not own the business himself. I wish him and all his staff every success but, honestly, with the direction and service they give, it will have no problems on that front.

The only reason I'm writing this and loosing 2 stars, is because since COVID the upstairs part of the Yard has not reopened, it seems to have been given over to the adjoined art gallery, meaning that the yard itself gas been given over to just being the (slightly dark) narrow cramped feeling bit at the back of the premises which means its a lot less nice to sit in. The upstairs was so much nicer, more natural light, space, a fire in winter and often live background music, so wonderful. So... I really hope to be coming back in the future when I realise the upstairs is open again and stick this back up to 5 stars!!!!

The food is out of this world and the ambiance is even better. Joint on to an art gallery the Yard really is a masterpiece of relaxation. One thing that sets the Yard apart from the huge amount of competition in Holywood is the staff. Firstly there's always an abundance of them and secondly they are always extremely informative and helpful. Back to the all important food - Don't expect to get a huge feed at the Yard, it really is a café in its traditional sense. They sell tray-bakes, pastries, French toast and deserts as well as stocking local teas and coffee. There's a car park out the back of the Yard and you can use the back entrance if you're parked here.

Very impressed…read more Living in the area I had watched this place being built and wondered why they where building a wee pokey building there. Thought it was a bit random to be making a tourist centre in East Belfast. Going in there today reminded me why they created the centre. So much talent over the years has come from people of the area. Which is basically what the centre is all about. Celebrating those people. The information displayed is bright, attractive and easy to read. There are also many interactive touch screens with info about walks, entertainment etc. The building is basically a cafe surrounded buy all the other info. Tables and chairs upstairs and downstairs. Can buy sweet treats as well as savour food. Made by local makers. Nice place to sit and ponder. Feels a bit like the Mac in the city centre.

I also attended Brian Ballard's art exhibition opening on 03/08/2017, at which the gallery space was filled with energy, visitors, unique art and delicious refreshments of wine, popcorn and crisps. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Unlike most other city centre locations they don't mess around with hot sandwiches or paninis etc.. They keep it simple by offering an unreal selection of high quality fresh fillings and salads. The portion sizes are ridiculous (in a good way) they pile so much in it's hard to see how they make any money! My personal fav it's their club sandwich, this easily the biggest sandwich you can buy in Belfast, it's costs just over a fiver but would easily do two people. Along side the quality produce and massive portions the service is second to none. Bob and Christine run it and their banter alone is worth a visit, a nice touch is also the fact they give you a free apple with every sandwich for a healthy desert.
