All too often in life, I think we pursue an occupation for the wrong reasons. Money, ease, difficulty, despair...It's rare to see someone in a position in which they excel. Most people seem to be just clocking in and waiting for the check. So it's easy to recognize genius when you see it. Someone perfectly suited for their job. A maestro, if you will. Andrew is a maestro...of hair. He's managed to consistently take my vague and mumbled style requests and give me a cut that looks better than I anticipated or even would have imagined possible - and for twenty dollars. That's right. USD. A, um...Well, whoever it is that's on the 20 dollar bill. One of those. So, you ask, if I'm so impressed, what's with the four stars? It's one thing: service. You'll see what I mean. It's not a deal breaker, especially compared to the quality/price ratio we're working with here, but it's enough to make me wait a few more days between cuts. read more

Somebody else f*cked up my hair. I used my GPS to immediately find another barber close by to fix it. Suite Barber Shop came up, so there I went. And even though I didn't have an appointment -- not recommended, and my apologies for that -- Danny fit me in and fixed me up. Very friendly people. All the barbers struck up conversations with me even though I just showed up spur of the moment. The owner let me know I could park behind the shop next time rather than parking on the street. I was recommended to the Suite Barber Shop after having a conversation with a friend about where to go for an old-fashioned barber. A barber shop where even in spite of difficult economic times and crazy events going all around the world, men can go to feel confident about themselves and shoot the breeze with their fellow man. My friend said The Suite Barber Shop was that kind of shop. So I went. I scheduled an appointment and arrived on time to see the barber Andrew in the middle of cutting another customer's hair. He greeted me and I had a seat in the waiting area. The shop is a really nice-looking place. It's very comfortable and whoever the interior designer was did a great job. It was my turn about 30 minutes after my schedule appointment time. Andrew apologized for the wait and sat me down. Before discussing what kind of cut I was going for, he offered me a Heineken. After telling Andrew what I usually get (a very basic haircut), he offered some recommendations and asked if I wanted to try something a bit different. I decided to be bold and went for it. The haircut turned out excellent and it was subtly different from my typical haircut, but the subtleness gave my appearance a bit more edge and just looked cooler. During the cut, Andrew was talkative and polite. You can tell he really knows the regulars and appreciates their business. The price was $25 for the haircut. Parking was a cinch, and his shop is located just outside of downtown Silver Spring. The missing 5th star comes from the price ($25 bucks is a bit steep when my typical barber in Silver Spring charges $18 for a good cut and comparable, good service) and the 30 minute wait. Andrew did apologize for the wait and explained it was a busy day, but I think the scheduling needs to be fine-tuned a bit more. A customer that locks in an appointment for a specified time shouldn't have to wait 30 minutes past that time. Alas, not everything can be perfect sometimes and I will still highly recommend Andrew to my friends. Also, the beer was a nice touch. In all, my haircut looked great, Andrew was a great barber with a good personality, and my friend was right - this shop is reminiscent of a good 'ol fashioned barber shop with great service. read more

Erika asked what I wanted and I told her to surprise me and I gotta say, I got a pleasant surprise!! I love my new hair cut! Its wild, its sexy, its crazy, its everything I love!! She did an awesome job for having her only direction be "surprise me, length doesn't matter." After this free sample, I gotta say, I'm DEFINITELY going back for more in the future!! Andrew Victor is truly an artist. His attention to detail is unparalleled. I love that you can schedule your haircuts online and that I have never had to wait longer than 10 minutes for my appointment to start. Not only does Andrew do very detailed work, he starts his appointments on time! This shop is pretty busy and requires a couple of days notice in order to get on the books, but the haircut is worth the wait! There is on site and overflow street parking so you don't have to pay for parking (ideal). Bring cash because cash is king! read more

After a few years at the suite, it's time to call it quits. Andrew is a cool guy but for $35 a cut, he has been getting kinda sloppy. The atmosphere when I first started going was a hip and energetic joint. Now it's a bunch of dudes who thrive on their popularity, and the air is a little too arrogant for my taste. It was fun back when the cuts were $25 and the place was welcoming, but I'm going to find a place that's cheaper and doesn't make me feel out of place. read more

After 3 visits I can firmly say this is shop holds the crown for barber shops in the DMV. The shop is modernized by online scheduling and by the acceptance of credit cards. Not sure why other shops haven't stepped into the 21st century yet.....They are professional barbers that are worth the price - which is very reasonable. You get what you pay for. That statement falls perfectly within this establishment. For 12 years I went to a regular barber and paid my $12. It would usually always be a quick less than average cut that I had gotten accustom to. I came to this establishment due to a friend that works here. His name is Frankie and let me tell you. This guy has some serious skill. Its not your usual quick in and out cut that you would get anywhere else. These guys take their time and make sure to recommend a cut that will suit anyone. Frankie hooked it up with a good old fashioned comb over and since than I've been to him twice. Trust me people, If you're looking for a new barber or new to the area this is the place to go to. I've been going to Andrew for about 5 years and his haircuts are super crisp. I live in va but I drive to Maryland twice a month for my haircuts because it's worth it. I get compliments on my haircuts all the time and I never got that with my local barber shop. You set your appointment online in advance so you never have to wait and he's super fast so it never takes longer than 30 minutes. The vibe there is super chill and friendly as well. The barber shop I have been looking for all my life. First off I called them yesterday to find out their hours of operation and they happened to be closed. No problem according to Andrew just let him know a time and he would open up to cut my hair. Set a time and showed up. The Barber Shop itself was welcoming and clean. Andrew took time to listen to me to find out about my hair and what I was looking for hair cut wise. I love my hair cut he gave me, but it doesn't stop their he even gave me an old fashioned shave which is a lost art and an experience not to be missed. My fiancé had a last minute job interview, for which he needed a fresh cut and shave. He typically goes to Raphael's in Silver Spring (your typical men's barbershop), but they had already closed. I looked on Yelp and saw the The Suite was open until 9pm. Unfortunately, they are by appointment only. I gave them a quick call around 6pm to see if they had any cancellations and could squeeze in an extra cut and shave. Thankfully, they were able to. I can't say much about the vibe of the place, since I did not go in. However, my fiancé coyly said "the place was pretty cool." He mentioned it seemed like a bunch of friends from high school ran the shop and many of their clients were also high school buddies. That said, they were very inclusive and chatty. The price is a little steep if you are used to the typical men's barbershop prices (they clearly layout the price list on their website). In my opinion, the cut was worth the extra cost. This is the first haircut my fiancé has ever gotten that I had no complaints about. He has really straight hair and there is always hair that sticks up at the top of his head.
