Apparently a warning against genetically-engineered produce (what?) the best thing about the original sculpture was its offspring of 125 mini-critters that paraded the streets of Liverpool back in that one cultured year we had. Remember?
I drunkenly rode most of these little blighters on the day of my graduation, probably to show how mature I was. Well I was wearing a suit! That's what adults do right?
Although not as historically significant as the Liver Birds or culturally impressive as the China Town Gate, the original eight ton Super Lamb Banana, designed by Japanese artist Taro Chiezo, has still found its place amongst the iconography of the city, providing another bright chunk of visual interest to the rich spectrum of oddities that pepper the streets of Liverpool.
