I usually don't go seeking religious experiences on a Wednesday, but Taco Place has a local reputation to save your soul by the power of a really really old piece of cheese once blessed by a catholic pope. I didn't get to lick the cheese this time, but I can confirm that Taco Place has the best meat you can fit inside of a tortilla in all of the land found west of the Mississippi River. If you've been in Madisonville for longer than 3 hours and haven't seen the good folks over at Taco Place, I would certainly consider turning yourself in to authorities post haste. Tacos were soooo yummy ! I'm very picky when it comes to my Mexican tacos, these did not disappoint. My bf got their barbacoa tacos and I got their fajita tacos both on flour tortillas. The tortillas were homemade and fresh. The meat was not dry at all and very flavorful. Definitely recommend if you're driving through. Also, to add the decor gives off a very cozy at home vibe. This place looks a little on the "divey" side from the outside, but it is clean and appears to be well managed. Moreover, when I walked in, there were several Madisonville Police officers in there eating - always a good sign! The tacos are made to order with a selection of meats including ground beef, beef fajitas, brisket, pork and others. I tried one each of the brisket, pork and fajitas in flour tortillas. They were all very tasty. No chips and salsa on the tables, but a good, authentic taqueria! read more

My mind hasn't changed from my 1st review...5 stars allll the way!! It's a must I drop in here at least 3 times when I come home. Their food is sooo good. From the pastor, caldo, tamales, barbacoa, breakfast tacos to salsas, I've never been disappointed. Nice portions & the prices can't be beat. The ladies here are very sweet & they move quick. Driving from Houston to Dallas, I looked up somewhere to stop and grab a bite and this place came up. I had to "backtrack" to find it - it's across a parking lot from the main road. Pretty much a storefront rather than a restaurant. You may walk in and be underwhelmed - there's no "ambience" - this is about the food. The spot-on, seasoned, authentic Mexican food. They may not speak English fluently - there's no menu - you walk up and point out what you want. I ordered tacos and a couple of sides. It was late in the day so I'm sure some of the food had been sitting for a while. Even so, the "street tacos" were excellent! Since I housesit in the area, I've gotten to know that there aren't all that many varieties of food to pick from. This place is outstanding. It's inexpensive, there's a very large variety to pick from, and the service is excellent. Ok, the food deserves 5 stars. I gave it a 4 because there was no menu and no prices listed for the food. When you walk inside, there is a large room with tables. Hubby and I sat down because we saw a waitress delivering food. And sat! Finally hubby and I go into back area and ask about food. Yes, we order from her but she is Mexican and we are Not. We try to order our tacos and hope for the best which turned out ok. We got brisket in our taco and it was quite good. We got 4 tacos and one large drink for just under $10. Needed some good tacos before heading to Galveston from Dallas and found just the spot. It's a tiny little place tucked away but packed with flavor especially the brisket tacos! Hidden gem in madisonville! They make everything fresh daily and it's authentic Mexican food. They hand make their tortillas as well, always have friendly service, and always clean! I believe tacos start out at 1.75 but then anything you want to add on is only 5 cents extra like cheese or avocado. They also have like a mini grocery section where you can get fresh fruits and veggies as well as candy and differed stuff like that. read more

This little restaurant has amazingly delicious food. We stopped off here for dinner when we were driving from Houston to Dallas. It is definitely worth driving a little further off the highway to get some authentic, delicious food instead of just going to the chain restaurants that cater to travelers. Our family of 4 was able to eat for a mere $25.00 including drinks and a little dessert from the shelf of Mexican pastries. There is no menu and no labels on the food, but the lady behind the counter patiently answered all our questions.
