Finally a place in Madera for young professionals and those looking to find a nice and comfortable place for lunch/dinner! The Tap House is a great combination of craft beer and killer food. Went there with a group and ordered two pizzas, the pretzel bites, and garlic twists. This is the only place you will find a wood fire, brick oven pizza. You can tell they put care into their ingredients. The Carnivore and Asada Pie pizzas were super filling. The two were able to feed a group of 5. They are a bit more artisanal than what people are used to, but definitely worth it. I look forward to stopping by on the upcoming Sundays. Will be watching all my games here in the future. Just went there the other night with a group of friends... had some drinks and we were waiting on our food and appetizers. First it took 20 minutes for our drinks, another 20 minutes for appetizers and then about one hour 1/2 for our food then to find out that it was going to take even longer due to something wrong with the dough. Now to only find out that our food took long cause the cook "doesn't like me" so she put our order aside on purpose. Drinks were great but I will never step foot into this place again. Not too bad. They had four types of Sierra Nevada on tap, including Celebration Ale. That was a pleasant surprise. The pretzel dip appetizer was very good. The calzone and Stromboli was essentially the same dish only shaped differently. Even came with the same generic marinara sauce. The flavors were good but not great. The crusts were a little on the doughy side. We waited a bit too long for our order to be taken even though we sat at the bar and the server was only tending to us and one other couple. I'm hoping they improve with time, and will definitely give them another chance. I think with some work, they can make this a nice little spot. read more

Loved it. Great menu for those barely getting into craft beer, and they even cater to those who drink macro brew, so this truly is a place for everybody. I went here on a date to choose something in between Fresno and Merced and this was the best spot. For a "Tap House" I thought there would be more beers on tap. I also ordered the Italian Nachos and they tasted like a drunk person just put together random ingredients to make nachos at home. We didn't eat our nachos. My wife and I stopped in for lunch and were impressed my the minimalist, clean atmosphere projected by the Tap House. The restaurant was spotlessly maintained, the background music well chosen (thank heavens no country crooner moaning his lost love in a Reno bus station), and a waitress who got our beverages and food order with smooth alacrity. My wife ordered a chicken slider sandwich. Half the sandwich slid off the plate onto the table and was quickly replaced by a complete fresh sandwich. I ordered a lunch-sized calzone that was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately the calzone was slightly burned but it didn't detract too much from the quality of the meal. So lacking in quality eateries, Madera could use more restaurants like the Tap House. Give it a try! ************* 10/22--I took my own advice and went back to the Tap House for a second time for lunch. And again my calzone was moderately burned in the top. The pleasant waitress offered to replace the meal. Several other reviews mention burning of their entrees as well. The solution to the to ongoing problem is simple: 1) Don't rush the food and/or cook at a lower temperature or 2) tent the pasta with aluminum foil during the last few minutes where the pasta will brown but won't burn. read more

We were kinda having a rough day, (just paid a bunch to replace a tire) and my boyfriend saw this place... he suggested we try it out, we were both hungry and he wanted a beer. You guys, the service was incredible! Super friendly, let us try the beers before we bought them, (I actually loved a stout they had on tap, first time I've ever even liked a beer... too bad it was a limited time thing) and the pizza we shared was probably the very best in town. Came here on a recommendation. The food was average at best. The service on the other hand was terrible. The bartender/server on duty was talking badly about a guest that was on the patio to other guest. After that guest left, she made the remark "at least he left me $30." Stopped by today with some friends and came away very impressed. Pros: Quality of food was fantastic. I ordered the Asada Pie and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thin crust but it wasn't burnt, just crispy. The pesto sauce was delicious. I tried my friends' bbq pie and that also was scrumptious. Highly recommend both. Beer list looked good. While I didn't order a beer this trip (there will be future visits for sure) there was a good selection of beers both on menu and on their specialty list on the wall. I look forward to sampling their selection soon Environment was overall pretty nice. Plenty of TV coverage to watch the game you'd like and the decor was pleasant. Cons: For not being very busy it did take a little long to get the food, but not terribly so. Not something that would stop me from coming back. Size. It's a small space and if it were to be busy I could see it being hectic. Nothing they can really do about that, but expect it to be a little tight as far as space is concerned. I really wanted this place to be good. My wife and I are huge fans of craft beer and pizza, so we thought why not give it a shot. The oven they put up in the picture looks like they make good pizzas. That was not the case. The crust on that pizza was nasty. You have a good oven and you're slow cooking your thin crust pizza. As thin as that crust is it should not take long to get your order. We waited way to long to get our mediocre pizza. I ordered the Margherita Pizza that said it had sun dried tomatoes on it, because I wanted sun dried tomatoes. What I got was thick cut tomatoes and when I asked where the sun dried tomatoes were the horrible waitress told us they stopped using sun dried tomatoes cause they were getting to crispy. Well put them on half way or after, duh! Then she said they forgot to change it on the menu. Instead of offering a discount or anything at all she said was she was going to tell the owner and they were going to change the menu. That still didn't fix the fact that I didn't get what I wanted. I never send food back and get new food, because I don't trust kitchen help. I've worked kitchens and know that cooks get mad when you return orders that weren't messed up. I definitely didn't trust this place who just made mistake after mistake. As for the beer. If you're a craft beer snob or you're an advanced craft beer drinker you might want to stay away for now. The beer menu is still not what true craft beer drinkers will get excited over. It's more of an introductory craft beer menu. We tried to order the Adversus but the tap had just blown a little earlier which we understand happens. So we ask what are you guys going to replace it with. The server goes to the back to ask and then comes back and tells us they're replacing it with a beer that was already on the menu. I was confused and just gave up and took the Mango IPA from Barrelhouse that you can pretty much get anywhere. They charged me $7 for a 16oz pour. A little pricey for a common beer you can find almost anywhere. Considering all the other beers were $5 or $6 I thought that dollar extra was a little much for a regular beer. The beer selection will eventually fix itself dependent on the crowds they attract, but for true craft beer heads that search for rare beers this isn't the location yet. I wish I could have said the food was good, but the pizza I ate was not good and expensive. I plate watch as well and the limited options they offered didn't look much more better. Stay away for now unless you like being disappointed with mediocre food, poor service, high prices and just ok beer. I'll root for this place to do good because they are trying to get into the craft beer market, but i won't hold out to much hope from my first experience with these guy. read more

First things first if you are in any type of customer service always greet your clients with a smile, first impressions are everything. The atmosphere is nice and clean, the restaurant itself it is a bit smaller than expected. They have 4 tvs in here and for you football fans or any sports fans that's great!! Previous reviews say it's kid friendly but honestly I wouldn't bring small children here there's really no room, it is a pretty tight spot. Well we placed our orders 4 to be exact and about 15 minutes later my family has their meals in front of them I sit and wait and wait finally as my family is halfway through their meal the waitress comes and asks if everything is ok- my response is would be better if I had my meal she said ok will go check on it---as of right now about 7 minutes have passed and still no sign of my salad. Funny I think salads are a lot faster to make than 2 pizzas and an order of nachos. Well I think after this experience I will not return here. Keep your salad I'm outta here. Service is horrible, I'd rather drive to Fresno and spend my money. The manager was nice enough to pick up the salad and let me take it to go But like I said it's a little to late-first impressions are the most important. They're a little busy, but I think there needs to be more customer service training, the name suits it well "Tap House" just serve beer only and maybe make your menu a little smaller. Everything was great here, service was very friendly and helpful. Menu was simple but still a good variety. Great selection of beers, I had the Sancha and my husband had the Sierra Nevada Celebration, both were really good. House salad was fresh and good portion, and our Philly Cheese Steak pizza was delicious. We also had the apple calzone with ice cream for dessert, which was really good.
