I'm a pub guy, I don't do clubs, bars or lounges as a rule. I find them all very boring. The only reason I stepped foot in Tavern of the Green is because it's on the CAMRA Liverpool pub map, which I've given myself the challenge to complete.
I stepped up to the bar and glanced down the row on beers. PANIC! They're all German beers, with their ridiculously long and unpronounceable name! They're all going to laugh at me! Luckily at the end I spotted Sam Adams Craft Lager. That'll do,
I've heard that's nice.
'Yes mate?'
'Pint ov Sam Adams please mate'
'It's only two thirds'
'What?'
'It's not a pint. It's only two thirds. Is that alright?'
'Oh right, is that because it's American?'
'Yeah it's their pint size. Is that alright?'
'Yeah. Well no, but yeah.'
'Ok. £3.95 please'
Yeah. Four quid. I payed over the odds for a pint that wasn't even a pint. I clearly wasn't the first person to be rubbed the wrong way by the high prices, when I look a visit to the gents someone had decided to knicked the faucet from one of the sinks.
All that aside Tavern on The Green is a nice place to go for a drink. It's stylish and cosy and has some decent background music. If you're loaded and your German's good then give it ago, for everyone else I suggest you save it for special occasions. read more
