They were open pretty late so it was convenient for me to grab a bite with my adjustment to the time change still off. The burger was ok, it came with some gravy to dip my fries and burger in but I didn't use it. There are a lot of better places to eat in Edinburgh but I just went here out of convenience. They host a lot of daily events so I imagine those are fun to socialize and meet new people passing through.

That Wetherspoons took over an old theater that started out as a silent picture venue in 1923 and later turned into a music venue (where notable acts like Queen, Pink Floyd, and The Smiths had played) really intrigued me! When I told my husband that Wetherspoons is known for their cheap meals and beer, he was all in! The Caley Picture House did not disappoint. What a cool, gorgeous place! We found a table and ordered our meals from their app, and they were delivered a short time later! They have meal deals which include drinks (you pay just a little more to include alcoholic drinks). My husband had their ramen and I had a jacket potato with roasted veggies. I had a delicious cider with mine and my husband had an IPA. We so enjoyed the experience that I took out my phone and ordered ice cream for dessert. We took note of the breakfast menu and came back the next morning to check it out. We both had inexpensive egg and English muffin sandwiches that came with unlimited coffee (a serve yourself espresso machine that included mochas). Really good! The Caley Picture House is fabulous! We told our son he needs to check it out and bring friends. This place is enjoyed by the young and old and everyone in between. We'll be back the next time we are in town!

The crowd was a bit of locals and a bit of people pouring out from the tattoo convention, so it was a mixed bag of people. Prices are ok, but I'm sure there are better deals to be had at a local pub nearby as I'm sure the prices are jacked up knowing people don't really have another option on the premises. The pub is bright and airy with some darker corners. They have large comfortable leather chairs and sofas dotted around the place. it seems as much as a semi local / waiting area for ECE visitors. There is a long traditional bar, which flows into the venue of the ECE. They have 4 screens showing various UK favourite sports, Golf, Tennis, Soccer and Formula 1 racing. Music is loud when we visited, but I guess this is a always like that seeing they are right beside a venue that also holds concerts. It is not a place I would visit by itself, but as a stop before going into the venue it suffices.

One room, which sits as a balcony above the main part of the Sportsman bar is dedicated to American pool tables while the other room has British pool tables. A word of warning though, even though pool costs 50p a game, the tables are highly unreliable and you will be very lucky if you don't go through an entire game without losing the cue ball or having to kick the table! Drinks are at student prices, but the Sportsman Bar does not have the same range of drinks on offer compared to the Library Bar. In the morning they are open as a kind of sandwich shop which serves sandwiches and soups etc at a kind of seperate bit divided from the pub, which the keep up until lunch and then take awa the divider to have the pub as one big place in the afternoons/evenings. The pub has a great atmosphere and since its name change has many more younger people in it, the prices for drinks are great too. At weekends you can also catch the Kareoke or disco!

I mean it's OK - they've got a couple of decent beers on and the food is passable. But it's just got a bit of an odd feel to it. Also, it felt a little touristy.
