I have been here once at the suggestion of some one else. I had a good time, but I don't think I'd come back. It's a bit far, parking is truly an absolute nightmare, and the vibes are just fine. It's cozy inside and sitting at the bar is pretty fun. I think cozy is the best way to describe it, despite the fact that I would not call is place comfy. The bartenders are friendly, helpful, and they are so fast at making drinks I don't think anyone waited more than five minutes for their orders. I will say there were other patrons inside, but they weren't packed or anything, so maybe it's different when there's a crowd. The drinks are good! They have a pretty solid menu and I'm told it's all good to try. Give this spot a shot, but I wouldn't drive out of my way to check it out. read more

Yesterday was the 14th anniversary of one of our favorite places and one of the best bars in town. The owner Pam and Manager Holly, (along with the rest of the team of course) have cultivated a truly dedicated team reminiscent of an old fashioned neighborhood English pub where you can get some great cocktails, enjoy the occasional potluck celebration or just enjoy the company of others who appreciate a welcoming place. The music from the band added to the festivities, the drinks were delicious, everyone was clearly enjoying themselves and celebrating one of our favorite places in town. It is more a neighborhood bar that is divided into two rooms one more suited for groups and those that want a more private experience and the main bar area for socializing or just people watching. Came by with my wife to kill an hour before eating at Foreign & Domestic. It's a cute place with a nice sitting area out back to go with the inside atea. We ordered some pimento cheese w French crostinis and pickled vegetables to eat with our drinks. My wife enjoyed an N/A equivalent of an aperol spritz ehile I had a bourbon sour w bitters that was pretty tasty. The salt on the crostinis and strongly pickled veggies paired perfectly. This bar is tucked at the end of a strip of shops on the north loop near I35. It has a small bar at the entrance staffed by a couple of bartenders. Place orders at the bar and they'll hand you the drinks. Indoor seating available but somewhat limited since it isn't big. I did also notice reserved signs on some tables. Outdoor seating in the back as well on benches and metal chairs. You could probably host a small group here but I wouldn't go with a large party. Drinks were nicely crafted and they also had small bites to eat if you get hungry. read more

Half my days I love this place. The other half I find it pedantic and foolish. If you want a bar full of people drinking water while everyone else sit in the corner drinking booze and tipping, this is your place. The fact the bartenders seem to not care to make money is beyond me. Tonight five people at the bar with four having water shows this old and decrepit bar is not "friendly" to locals. You want to have repeat customers, have a solid amount of drinks people want and servers who take care of your customers. Ten times I've been in within two months in the neighborhood and I'll be the one to tell everyone to not go in. The Tigress is the OG of classic cocktail culture in Austin. They opened their doors well before the craft cocktail madness took over the local blogosphere. There are no codewords, no hidden doors, and no over the top marketing gimmicks used to try to make them stand out from the pack. They don't need to. They just offer highly skilled staff serving up classic cocktails the way they were meant to be. I'm a cocktail enthusiast and admitted "drink snob" with very high expectations of any place that claims to be a "cocktail bar". The Tigress is like a "small batch heaven" located off the beaten path. The rotating menu is carefully curated and the liquor selection, though small, is a blend of unique, local, and masterfully crafted offerings. You won't find mass produced, highly generic, overly commercialized well spirits here. Though the seasonal menus are small, the bartenders are highly skilled and can handle almost any classic cocktail request. In fact, they've even introduced me to a few that I'd not heard of previously, but are now part of my "at home" offerings (The Trinidad Sour is a favorite I didn't know I had previously). From the perfectly selected glassware to the outstanding skill of the folks behind the bar, this place is a must visit for every cocktail conisouer looking for that one special place where you stop in for a drink and leave having had a memorable experience. Despite having all the right things to lend itself to being a high-end elegant cocktail bar, The Tigress has a casual, local, friendly feel. Well, I actually have no idea what you are, but it's a clever premise for another bar review. Let's agree first that they both offer interesting alcohol choices, they're pretty small inside, and both places represent the new millennium of neighborhood bars: So do you like one just a tad more than the other? To me there's a big difference. I think I'd be a regular at The Tigress Pub. I'm first to admit Drink.Well is a slick tasty sliver of Péché pie for this area, especially if you don't want to hit 4th Street to do the entire bakery. But Tigress strikes me as the quintessential "neighborhood bar" that's been slightly Péché-fied with clever cocktails, but still continues to play "The Bishop's Wife" with Cary Grant, while you're eating the pizza you've had delivered. I'm not saying one's better than the other, I'm just saying it's two different environments. The key here is how you feel about accruing "regular" status: If you're just into bar crawls or getting trashed occasionally, it really doesn't make much difference. But if you do kind of enjoy that "Cheer's" syndrome, my instinct is it will happen for you a bit faster, cheaper, and probably a little better at the Tigress Pub. Tigress' new space is great. Mostly because it's bigger than the original closet-sized space. The drinks are still just as well mixed and moderately priced. They can be on the small side but you have to know what to order. I think it will be tough to keep up a reasonable service time unless there's another space they serve from. Luckily, we were there during Tuesday happy hour time so it was relatively empty. If it was packed, I can see drink times skyrocketing. As ever on this road, parking can be a bear on North Loop but just get into the neighborhood and you'll be able to find a space. This would be a good spot to take a date... or to start your night with a pre-drink. read more

Gaga oh la la. Love, love, love this place. A great place where cut-off jean wearing, tattooed chicks, hippies, and just plain ol folks can exist in harmony. Squeezed between two vintage stores, The Tigress Pub can easily be missed. This place is a dive, without the typical dive feel. Walking into this patio sized bar, our olfactory sensors detected beautiful fresh smells, not that of sweaty alcoholics. The place is clean and warm and the liquor and beer selection is small. There is a great bartender that only works here on Friday nights, and we had the pleasure of drinking his wildly unfamiliar, delicious cocktail creations. I loved the lychee concoction, although it is not for everyone due to it's Chinese herbal medicine similarity. I was able to sample just about all the special cocktails offerings for the night. Each was very different and interesting. Here is the scoop, this is not the bar if you like overly sweet dessert-like drinks. I finally dragged Bff in here the other day and we loved it! Granted, for three of those 6 months that I've been talkin the place up to him based on reviews, he had resolved to not drink, silly man. But now he's fallen off the wagon, hell he's jumped clear of the wagon, so we can go and enjoy libations after our weekly 4 mile hike again! We were warmly greeted upon entering by the bartendress/waitress/greeter/new-Bff, Pamela (not to be confused with the owner Pam, who I am sure is just as delightful, but we had no contact with her). In fact, Pamela was so friendly and open and easy to talk to, I think Bff and I were individually plotting ways to off each other so we could get a new Bff (or maybe that was just my thoughts...). Pamela would come out from behind the bar over to your table, chat you up, make you laugh and then whirlwind back behind the bar and spend 5 minutes making you an elaborate, intricate, tasty drink. Yup. I love her. If you know a whiskey or bourbon lover, they will love this bar. I can't stand whiskey or bourbon or any of those super sweet, brown lickas and I still loved this bar (again that was in large part due to Pamela). There were exactly two drinks on the menu for me and I tried and loved them both, the Moscow Mule and the French 75 (made with "sprinkling wine" according to the menu :). Both were well prepared and stiff, making me all warm and fuzzy inside. Bff, the bartender, was more than impressed with each of his drinks, both having at least 5 ingredients, not including the love that went into the making of them. All drinks are $7, all the time and what you see on the menu, or on the beer tap, is what you get. Don't go in thinking you're gonna order a vodka and Red Bull. You'll be bitch slapped out. As everyone has mentioned, this place is tiny but it seemed to be filled with regulars, or maybe Pamela just makes everyone feel that way, huggin the geezers and inviting everyone to come in for egg nog on Thanksgiving day. The parking here is limited though, not the bar's fault. A biker smashed into my side view mirror as I walked outside and he was screaming obscenities along with "who parks here?" Hmmm! The interiors of this place are very different - very old / rustic sort of style. They have outdoor seating which can probably seat around 10 ppl - very small tables surrounded by a few chairs. Went for an impromptu drink on a Tuesday night. The place is quaint and charming. Not too big but not too small. Tuesday had maybe 8 other people there. Dim lighting and wood booths line the place. Funny to say, but they have he most comfortable bar stools I've ever sat on! The bartender was very friendly, talkative and great at recommending drinks. First, I had The Green Drink! She said you can only get it 1-2 times a year! Unique and tasty! Never had a drink with cilantro in it. Good balance of fresh herbs, pineapple and citrus. Second drink, she made a custom cocktail for me. I was in the mood for gin but my favorite drinks are mojitos and vodka presses.
