We are homeowners in Ruidoso and have home insurance through Greg Carey with State Farm. Today…read more(July 3rd, 2024), we visited their office to ask questions about our policy, as it contains many endorsements without detailed explanations. We wanted to discuss the damages we incurred from fires and flooding to understand what we might be able to claim. An agent named Carrie Chavez approached us and asked, "What are you wanting to file for?" We explained that we were confused about the fine print and wished to discuss our options. She responded, "Fire OR Flooding?" with noticeable attitude. Understandably, we felt frustrated at this point and reiterated that we needed a comprehensive discussion about our policy. The situation escalated as Carrie refused to assist us and eventually threatened to call the police if we didn't leave. Despite our insistence that we were paying customers with the right to discuss our policy, she accused us of trespassing. The police arrived, spoke with both parties, but nothing was resolved. We later learned that Carrie's husband is the Chief of Police in Ruidoso, which she seemed to use to her advantage. An attorney from next door, returning from lunch, noticed our situation and kindly provided us with resources to report this incident as well as directing us to the Horton Center. State Farm refused to even give us the 800 number to file a claim or to even send out an adjuster. She mentioned that we were not the first to have issues with Greg Carey's branch. We then visited the Horton Center to speak with State Farm representatives assisting disaster victims, and they were very helpful. However, during this time, Gary Carey called me and firmly stated that we were no longer welcome at his office, which we (my son and I) will respect. The most infuriating part is being paying customers seeking answers and receiving such poor treatment, with an agent leveraging her husband's position to avoid doing her job. We urge others to avoid doing business here as they are not customer oriented and request an investigation into Carrie Chavez and the entire Greg Carey branch of State Farm in Ruidoso, NM and their suitability to be a licensed insurance branch by OSI. Thank you in advance.
