The music is so loud at times that it is miserable. The volume drowns out the pleasure of the intent. I would recommend, as long as you go in with an open mind and understand that it's a bit of a variety show....not a Vegas level production.

I read about Tiny Town in book entitled 100 things to do in "Hot Springs before you Die". So i put…read moreit on the iteniary while visiting. It is a very old building and an elderly lady was working when we attended. She took our admission fee, turned on the lights and ushered us into the viewing room. It is a 65 year old display of numerous scenes that a single man crafted from discarded materials and wood carvings. I thought it was fascinating. There was a carnival scene, with a working carousel and ferris wheel with hand carved people in them, an Indian village with a dying cowboy with an arrow through his heart, a replica of Mt Rushmore, a dog getting ready to attack a cat, trains cruising around, an Andy Griffith scene, mountains and waterfalls, a man swimming, kids on swings and seesaws and OH so much more. There were so many moving parts, so many intricacies to see and ponder. The lady guided us part of the way (she had a very soft voice, and with the background noise of the moving parts it was almost impossible to understand her) but you could tell ahe was passionate about the display which was sweet). She then let us to walk around at our leisure. There are signs to read and buttons to push to make certain object either move or light up, while some of the display is in constant motion. We spent about 30 to 40 minutes in the depot so it doesn't take a long time to see but it was worth the $8 admission fee. Free street parking right outside the depot and a small gift shop.

The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts is treasure nestled in the heart of Little Rock, easily accessible for both locals and tourists. During my visit, they had an exhibition for Native American artists and I was pleasantly surprised by the Pablo Picasso pieces that were on loan to this museum. Beautifully curated selection of artworks in a building that I consider art itself because of the amazing design and windowed 2nd floor that overlooks Little Rock! They also offer fun, hands on courses for all types of art including painting, sculpting, and even jewelry making. I did not have time to take any courses though. I spent roughly 2 hours and was able to see everything! Whether you have a couple of hours to spare or a whole day, the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts is highly recommended for anyone with an appreciation for art. A MUST SEE destination in Little Rock!

In 2021 I worked as a volunteer at the Malco Theatre screening venue which also happens to have one of the coolest, underground wine and beer bars in town. Last year Maxwell Blade dropped in everywhere and did instantaneous magic throughout the festival. Many of last year's entries went on to become hugely successful commercial films. Prior to COVID I met Werner Herzog, my film school idol for "Aguirre The Wrath of God", and actually hung out with him for awhile. That is the nature of this Small-But-Big event. Before becoming a repeat volunteer I always purchased a FULL ACCESS TICKET as there are so many parties, screenings, work shops, pop-up events and opportunities to meet the filmmakers in person, it is really an event best experienced via total immersion. Wouldn't miss it for the world!

This amazing event just finishing its 23rd season this past October, has been through many changes over the years, and preparation for this years festival is already underway. This 99% volunteer staffed event is a true community event that draws documentary film fans from all over the continent and world, and documentary film makers from around the globe enter submissions of all kinds for a chance just to show their film at this wonderful festival. As an attendee, you can view films individually for around 5$, with a by the day ticket or with a pass for the whole event - I recommend the festival pass if you are a serious doc fan as it gives you unlimited viewing access throughout the entire event - you can often view 8+ films a day if you are a mind to, as well the VIP passes have perks including private after parties with some of the film makers. The HSDFF screening committee has been bringing literally hundreds upon hundreds of fine quality documentary films of various lengths to this festival for decades now. These dedicated volunteers peruse 1000's of films every spring season and spend hundreds of hours months in advance preparing for the fall - watching the good, the bad and the ugly - searching for a handful of true gems worthy of this grand festival. Only about 2-3 out of every 100 films screened make the cut for this awesome festival, and screening committee members must watch and review and minimum of 250+ films individually in order to have a vote and say on the final films allowed into the festival. This process makes the quality of films viewed usually very high for festival attendees. I have enjoyed this festival for years - attending it over 15 years ago for the first time in 1999, and have been an attendee of it a half a dozen times since then over various years. It has been a couple seasons since my last trek to this grand event and I hope to attend it again in the near future. This is a true documentary film gem and definitely worth the trip at least once and well worth the effort to attend if you are a true documentary film fan. A Solid 5 Star festival 00192
