I wanted to go to the Trib on Mother's Day because it's always consistently pleasant with consistently good food and friendly, attentive service. My husband had the tenderloin, (which he said lacked flavor), but I had the stuffed sole and it was delicious. The food was spectacular! We ordered a fillet mignon, as well as the crumb top sole. Everything was cooked to perfection! My steak very juicy and flavorful. I would have included pictures of the food in this review, but (joyously) I've eaten it all. The service was prompt, friendly, and entirely above reproach. The swordfish steak I ate was the best I've had in years, and the filet mignon my dad had was equally good. I could have easily left deep gouges in my plate in the fervor of my attempts to get every last morsel, and that goes for the dessert, too: we both had the crème brûlée. I do not know if I have ever savored a dessert so slowly and methodically in my life. We came here with a large group after my Uncles funeral after another restaurant in town which I will leave nameless (shares the same name as a famous video game character) was a no show for our party of 30+. The owner of the other restaurant was supposed to open for us but nobody ever showed up leaving us standing on Main Street in front of an empty restaurant. We called the Tributary not being very hopeful that they could accommodate our large party with zero notice but they told us they absolutely could. The owner was so kind and accommodating to us and her son even came in on his day off to help. A menu was quickly put together with three options and the food came out pretty quickly considering the fact that they had no notice of our party coming. I am forever grateful to the Tributary. They took what was already an awful situation compounded by the actions of the other restaurant and turned that around. The food was great too! We had the choice between chicken parmesan, filet mignon and sole. I chose the chicken and it was delicious. The chicken was juicy and flavorful and the pasta was a perfect al dente. People inside supper nice. Old school I loved that after meal they came out with tray desserts I remember back in day when places did that. They looked amazing however we all ordered lots drinks and food so had no room. Salads are big, bowl soup is to. Drinks were great the table loved their drinks. Especially the size of glasses not like more modern day places that have shallower glasses and charging top for less drink. They looked pretty as well. Burgers were ok, meat just didn't taste like much. Was big burger with topping. Two dif Fish dinners were ordered was liked large plates of food. Stuffed mushrooms were tasty. Big on sausage flavor. Did from what I expected. There was risotto and something don't remember meal at table that was well liked. Asparagus was little under cooked for that persons taste but was nice to have on the plate. Over all everyone was ok or liked meals. Prices good for size of plates. Had big tables for big groups. Looked like had bar side as well didn't check that out but saw peps over there. Stopped in w my son for dinner. Really nice ma and pa place. Has a casual yet semi formal feel to it, old school kinda place . My son had the lobster special. Cooked perfectly, good portion. Was a little pricey But decent for the area I had the rack of lamb. This was a tender and lean cut of lamb that was perfectly seasoned and cooked exactly how it should be. The waitress said it usually cut into chops just before serving it. I asked for it to be served whole so it could rest a bit more. It was absolutely delicious and Perfect. Sliced easily. We went to the Tributary in Winsted recently for my wife's Birthday. She ordered the Prime Rib diner that night, I went the Pan Seared Salmon. We were very pleased with our meals, everything was stellar. I asked to have red and yellow pepper vinaigrettes to be on the side rather than on the salmon -- I did prefer the yellow one over the red. My wife's Prime Rib was cooked perfectly, she enjoyed it. We ordered two slices of Cannoli Pie for dessert to go -- they were very tasty. Service was excellent also. Overall, we had a great experience at the Tributary and look forward to a return visit. read more

I had forgotten about this little hidden gem until I met some friends for lunch there. Really nice menu with something for everyone. We had salads and burgers which were delicious. The salads were cold, freshly made and full of everything. My blue-cheese dressing was amazing. Burgers were all ordered cooked different ways yet , they all came out perfectly cooked. Our poor waiter George was slammed with a busy lunch crowd yet he continued to handle all of it while still being courteous and and attentive to each table. Had a fun and cozy lunch date here. Was treated to great service by the owner and her son, and while it felt outdated, it had a certain small town charm that you just can't replicate. The burger, as bar food goes, was a step above. I enjoyed an after dinner drink that tasted like an Italian biscotti. It was outrageous. I went out and bought some. But just wait until you have dinner there and make sure you ask for that. They're one of the few places that has it. After a long drive a perfectly cooked steak baked potato and veggies and salad to start with some hot fresh dinner rolls bring great comfort. Service was very friendly and attentive. Just .. no. Went here once on the way up to the Berkshires and the place itself literally looks and smells like Norman Bates' house. The carpets were super dirty and so was the cutlery. The Tributary has racked up a whopping nine Yelp reviews over 7 and a half years. I just read all of them and vehemently disagree with the slams on service and the food. We used a Groupon and had a very nice time here tonight. For $70 we had two big appetizers, a very nice salad bar, two big entrees and a glass of wine. No complaints there at all. We started off with the salad bar, it looks small, but it's a 4-sided affair wrapped around a brick column, so when you consider all of it, you realize it has a lot of dishes up there, It also has self serve bread- tonight there were 3 varieties, lemon, pumpkin and zucchini. We thought the salad bar was way above average. Our appetizers were a $9.95 shrimp cocktail (6 good sized shrimps) and an $8.95 stuffed mushrooms. The mushrooms were a tremendous value- 4 golf ball sized mounds of bread crumbs and ground sausage over mushroom caps. They were very good. Entrees were Farfalle with shrimp and scallops for $20.95 and Chicken Berkshire ($19,95). It was a huge breaded and sauteed chicken breast served with sliced peaches in a peach brandy sauce, along with rice and asparagus. I had the chicken and it was very good- nice and moist and cooked perfectly. Service was very good, pleasant and attentive. We interacted with three of 4 folks, pouring water, clearing dishes, delivering the food, and giving us service updates. No problems here. Yes, its a bit of an old school looking place with brick and dark paneling and wood ceilings. But seriously, who cares? Winsted is an old mill town and not Haight Ashbury. For what it's worth, the place was jam packed tonight. Every single table in the dining room was taken. The food was priced right, and the portions were generous; we took home half of the pasta, half of the chicken and sides, and two of the golf ball sized stuffed mushrooms. read more

My husband and I love going out to a quick date night at the Trib! It's an institution in Winsted, serving classic food at very reasonable prices. We usually eat in the bar- Kevin, the bartender, is awesome! While you won't find any trendy techniques or fancy fare, you will find traditional New England dishes like crumb topped sole or prime rib. We often get the clam strips and salad bar with a burger or steak sandwich. Definitely a good place to go! read more

Server was good although he never came to inquire on how our dinners were. Pretty sure he knew. He was friendly and personable though which helped. The problem was the food was not very good. Do not, I repeat, do not get the baked stuffed shrimp. Tiny shrimp and a large mound of not good stuffing lumped on top. So very disappointing. My son in law ordered the brisket. I realize that was very risky in Ct but it was awful! He didn't eat very much of it and took the rest home for the dog. I will say the apps were pretty good. All in all, it was a huge disappointment. I ordered the stuffed halibut - baked halibut stuffed with a crabmeat stuffing. The fish was cooked perfectly - the serving was quite large, and I ate it all! Others in my party ordered the steak and proclaimed it was heavenly. Everyone at the table loved their meal. The prices were reasonable-what you'd expect to pay for a good dinner out.
