I've been a Nate's Korner stan for the longest time (mostly due to the wife) but they can move aside now, The Trough's breakfast burrito is definitely up there as one of my favorites now. Parking is readily available but you do need to get validated. We've been going on Friday since they offer free avocado add-on (+$1.75 normally). For the breakfast burrito, you have a multitude of toppings to pick from, but we normally get steak which pairs perfectly with the avocado. The burrito is great for sharing, because if I eat the whole thing, I know I'm food coma'ing right away. It also comes with a sauce but you can ask for ranch (no extra cost!!!) too. Got the breakfast burrito and they put big pieces of bacon in it , despite my husband confirming 3 times with them that there is no meat in the burrito. Very disappointed , once we got our food we had a feeling there's something off about it and we called the guy at the front and confirmed again and he said yes "no meat" and then he talks to the cooks in the back about our sandwich and we hear something bacon and that was them confirming there is bacon in it but that was after we already bit into it and he didn't even come to stop us from eating it, they just said that we won't notice. I ordered a caprese sandwich- it was bland and soggy and I went home and added salt and pepper and some other stuff to make it taste good. My boyfriend's sausage burrito had barely any crumbled sausage - it was mostly just tater tots (see photo). Painful. That's what I will call it trying to order and get a successful sandwich from this place. At least in my experience. And, I will say it was a Sunday evening and I'm guessing that their A team is not working there then. I ordered a sandwich and asked for squaw bread. It is on the menu so I figured I was not out of bounds to ask for a substitution. The guy taking my order did not know what that was. I had to explain. I also asked, since I would be eating out that evening and the other half the next day, for them to just wrap them separately, completely as if I was taking it to go. The whole thing was wrapped completely but when I opened it, they had wrapped the sandwich and cut that in half and left it open. Then I sent it back and tried to explain what to do but the guy did not get it. Finally, he did and when it came back to me, I opened it up and noticed that it was on sourdough, not squaw. I had to get his attention again and to please put it on squaw. The sandwich came back to me, and as I started to eat, I noticed that there was fried egg on it. It was not mentioned as an ingredient in the sandwich and furthermore more, it's something that you have to pay extra for. And, seeing as how I was having a vegetarian sandwich, kind of defeats the purpose. So, back to sending it back. The whole vibe I got from the place and the staff was that I was putting them out. They were not too happy to be there. Employees should have pride in the work they do in the place they work. It just seemed to be a "job" for them. It was close to closing, so I'm guessing that they were ready to go home and I was now making more work for them. Anyhow, just not a good vibe there. If they were packed with people, I could imagine that a small mistake might be made every now and then, but I was the only one there. Burger King used to have a motto "special orders don't upset us". Might be the worst sandwich spot in all of Irvine. We ordered a bbq pork sandwich and a pastrami. Both sandwiches, well they were well constructed, had horrible flavor profiles that had both of us not wanting to go get lunch somewhere else. I had the bbq pork sandwich that was very offputting. I get that it is supposed to have some flavor profiles of vinegar in there because of the slaw and the bbq sauce, but it felt like they soaked it in vinegar before they wrapped it up. The service was also very questionable. When we showed up, nobody would help us or even look in our direction. There were 2-3 people up front just socializing while we waited for someone to help us. It took me raising my hand and saying excuse me for us to get any sort of service. When we asked questions, not only did they not answer our questions, but they look disgusted as to why we were even asking any questions at all. The place was dead empty at noon on Saturday (0 customers except us). That being said there was trash on the tables and the floors. We sat down at one table to wait for our food and the table was broken so we moved to another table and unfortunately that table also seemed to be broken as well. The location requires that you park in the parking garage as well. It is not an ideal location which might be the reason why they don't have any customers. you then have to either pay for the parking or validate it. When we asked the cashier to validate for us, it was if I asked the guy to loan me $20,000 cash. The weirdest part of the whole experience is that when we asked for onion rings they said they didn't have any. OK cool no problem what about tater tots? We have chili tater tots. Ok what about regular ones. Naw we only have chili ones and we can't do regular. Are they already premade chili tater tots and so you can't separate the tater tots from the chili? No ... In any case, this was poorly run establishment with low quality food at very expensive prices. We paid nearly $30 for 1 sandwich = because we both could only stomach 1/2 of each of our individual sandwiches.
