    Gliding down the staircase

I have to say that this was a an absolutely beautiful home. I decided to go outside of my comfort zone and book something different for my daughters 10th birthday. I wanted something other than the traditional hotel so the Truitt home seemed perfect. I was a little Leary upon booking because I didn't know quite what to expect. I also decided to request a birthday dinner from the option on the website. Again, quite a bit Leary because we were outside of our comfort zone and requesting a special meal for my kid is taking a huge chance (her favorite thing to eat is chicken nuggets and fries ) but wanting to do something different I took the chance. A on after making the booking I received a call from a lady by the name of Ruth. She was very pleasant and asked what type of meal I had in mind. I explained to her my daughters Tate pallet was a bit limited and she said to give her a couple days and she would put something together. Days later she called with a plan and although I wasn't quite clear on what it would be I went along for the ride. I arrived at the property in Aug 14th. Upon arrival I was greeted at the door by Ms. Ruth. From the time stepped in the home I felt at peace. She was absolutely a God send. She explained the history behind the home and gave us a tour where we took pictures. My daughter was in awe because to her this was a mansion and she was the princess. Ms. Ruth made her feel just like that. She asked would 7 be ok for dinner and we said yes. We and freshen up for dinner and when we came down she had a place setting for just the 2 of us. She then started to serve us course after course as if we were eating at a French restaurant in Paris. She introduced us to dishes that made my mouth yearn for more. I mean I couldn't have asked for anything more. After dinner she then walked in to our surprise singing happy birthday to my baby with a fake and candles. Aww I cried and cried because she went completely out of her way to make us feel so special!!! I was in awe at how gracious she was to us. After the dinner she asked what we wanted for breakfast. I couldn't believe she still wanted to cook but I guess it is a bed and breakfast ‍. She asked what time we'd be ready and we settled on 10am. I went back TJ our room and slept like a baby. Honestly by 10am I was still stuffed from the night before but I was all in!!! My daughter and I cane down for breakfast but before walking into the dining area she called me into the study and blessed my soul. She said that she enjoyed us and asked if we'd like to stay an extra night at a discounted rate because she felt that I needed that extra time. She has no idea what she's his did to me. The past year and a half half been the worst of my 37 years. Just leaving that I'm in stage 5 kidney failure has brought me to a whole other way of living and thinking and this trip was a vacation away from my new normal. She didn't know any of this upon my arrival but the fact that she could feel my need was beyond a blessing to me. She has no idea what an impact she put on my life in just 24 hours. Unfortunately I couldn't commit to another night at a that time but I WILL be. Ack. Not for the house but for Ms. Ruth. Again the home was immaculate I wanted for nothing but MS. Ruth! outshined the whole establishment. Peace and love to you. Thank you for EVERYTHING!! T

With our dietary preferences Ruth organized a 4-course private dinner (for an extra fee), and it blew us away.

However, during my stay, my family and I encountered an issue with a staff member from the Crust & Cork restaurant located inside your hotel. We overheard the supervisor Brittany speaking to one of her employees regarding the tip in front of us and multiple customers at the bar. When my daughter asked Brittney if there was an issue with the tip Brittney stated "it's crazy that it was almost a $400 bill! " insinuating that we did not tip enough. Our check totaled $377 which included a $57 service charge. We added an additional $8 to round the tip off to $65. She was extremely rude and unprofessional. She lacked consideration and completely disregarded our feelings by doing this in front of staff and other customers. That fact that she wasn't out server made it worse because our server whose name is Ty was very grateful and had no issues with our tip. The bartenders Tiffanie,Jess and Leslie made our stay worthwhile. They were very accommodating and supportive after witnessing what had took place but based off this interaction with this one particular staff member I'm definitely having second thoughts of staying at this hotel again.

Some are definitely good but most have no idea what they are doing. The soccer FS 1 channel at the room doesn't work and they give some excuses everyday. The one in the lobby is supposed to be working but no one could operate the tv or remote and couldn't do it. One guy figured out and got it . But next day it's all gone. Staying the entire week and they just ignore you when your tv is not working and desperately wanting to watch the game. Next time motel 6, must be better atleast they got people to fix the tv. First time they answer and next time they won't and hide in the back room. They won't follow up but when you try to follow up as you are missing the game they get an attitude and threaten you. This is absolutely the worst one and they don't care for sure. The GM is not able to control the quality of service it seems. So this a different Hilton and don't assume they are all same. Please avoid this place if you can and will be sorry when you have an issue to be solved, you are on your own. First time I give a bad review though this may be unfair for the good people working here as well. Apologies.

I feel so strongly about sharing my recommendation to stay here that this is my first-ever (and possibly only) Yelp review. The rooms, property, restaurant quality food, and service were impeccable. Sherry, Ridge, and Sara are so kind and will go above and beyond to ensure you have the best stay, even communicating months in advance to see if we had any requests. The unlimited ice cream and snack bars, speakeasy and all-seasons room were our favorite amenities, but the list is plentiful. Our room had a private patio with firepit, heated bathroom floors, a soaking tub, and so much more. It was beyond clean and comfortable! The icing on the cake: they are pet-friendly, and even provided organic dog treats to our corgi. We came in March for my birthday (they gave me flowers, a note, and a gift) and are already planning a trip back in the summer to utilize the heated pool, kayaks, bikes, and other outdoor activities. A must-see for a relaxing getaway or event, just a short drive to the charming town of Mathews. Thank you to our hosts for a fantastic weekend!

The pictures online absolutely do NOT do it justice. Our family of 3 (2 adults and a teenager) spent EIGHT days at this B&B and the location was beyond expectation! This place is a nature lover's dream. We listened to red wing blackbirds, cardinals, and great crested flycatchers sing to us from the trees. A Momma turkey brought her line of tiny babies out to walk across the yard several days in a row. Little boxed turtles scuttled across the yard. Deer popped in and out, frolicking around the property throughout the day. We watched a bald eagle sit in the tree nearby. Fish would jump in the water, herons would dive in and kayakers and small fishing boats went floating by. The pool was beautiful and immaculately kept. We stayed in the two bedroom Roosevelt retreat. It was beautiful! Beds were incredibly comfortable and the rooms were very spacious. The shower had cascading upper showerheads and mid level jets (similar to a high end luxury spa I once visited in Arizona). There was a jetted tub, luxurious shower products, comfy robes and slippers. Rooms were made every day and we were left mints on our pillows. What we loved even more than the beautiful location was the owners themselves. Paige and Mark felt like family by the end of our stay (the kind of family you LIKE to spend time with). They were incredibly generous, thoughtful, and kind. We found ourselves lingering over breakfast with them because they were just such lovely people. They made suggestions on restaurants (including the half price fish and chips!), places to see, things to maybe avoid. Watching them in the kitchen was like having a personal chef for an amazing breakfast every single morning. Everything from eggs benedict, breakfast quesadillas to a traditional English breakfast - never the same thing twice. On our last day, Mark asked our son if he had any special requests and our son opted for a second round of Frank Sinatra's favorite breakfast sandwich (who knew - but it was AMAZING!). They even wrapped up our leftover breakfast food each day so we could snack on it later. They offered hot coffee and orange juice every morning. We also had access to coffee, tea and various tasty snacks throughout the day. I ate way too many yummy brownies and cookies, and my son inhaled Paige's banana muffins. She even made an extra batch so he could take some home on the day we left. This was Southern hospitality and high class luxury at it's finest. Everything about this place was top notch. It was actually HARD to leave because we loved Paige and Mark and their little slice of heaven so much. I cannot recommend this place enough!!
