I was just refused service at this store. A store clerk with a name tag that said "Dude" on it refused to pack and ship my return of an Amazon Kindle with a my Amazon shipping label. He refused the paid UPS service of boxing and packing the device, got verbally abusive, and told me he didn't care if I complained about him or his refusing service. I've had nasty encounters in this store before (and clearly many others have from the reviews here.) But I've never been flat-out refused a paid UPS Store service or been chewed out by an employee for asking for one. I have far more respect for myself as a person than "Dude" had for me as a customer. I told Amazon what happened and they changed my return channel to my local Whole Foods store. read more

I live behind the building and I avoid this location. Shipping stores handle A LOT of returns. Returns need labels. Most stores charge $2-$3 fee for up to let's say 10 pages. Annoying but not bad. This store used to be fairly busy. When you slap a printing fee and a page fee and I believe they now have a tape fee??? people stop feeling good about going to said store. Also, 3 people at the counter and not a single one walks up to help hold the door for a large package. Just blank stares behind the counter. Not what I like to see when I'm struggling to get in... I drive 6 miles south to the UPS store in Lincoln Park on North Ave where the staff prints all my labels for $2 total. The end. The owners son comes out TO MY CAR to help me carry heavy boxes. It's never expected and I've never asked but the service is there- as it should be. read more

Overall, the staff here are rather attentive, helpful, knowledgeable, and provide a high standard of service. I only go to this UPS location because of this. I was there this morning, and the service was great, as usual. I have given them a five-star review in the past. However, a few days ago I experienced a rather uncomfortable moment with one of the staff there. I didn't see any staff, so I stepped literally one foot into the staff area to see if someone was there. Not my whole body, just one foot. Then, a staff member (the person who carries a large stuffed animal under the arm), shouted at me like I was a criminal trying to steal something or like I was a little child being "bad". They could have said something like: please don't step here... but instead I was yelled at. You know, like being scolded by a loud and angry parent. Of course, all of us have bad days. But this was really out of line. I can't remember ever being shouted at like that by someone at a business. Yeah, not cool at all. I felt like saying something then, but I didn't want to embarrass this employee in public. Otherwise, this is a well-run UPS store. Perhaps management will read this and provide extra training for staff to treat customers like human beings? Just saying... By the way, this incident will not influence my choice to come here. I will still frequent this location as, in general, they are quite good. But, being yelled at like that, for doing really nothing, is cruel. And unnecessary. And... this person has seen me in the store several times in the past. There have never been any issues with me being a bad customer or untrustworthy or impatient or mean or whatever. Finally, I see that this store has some not-so-positive reviews. Perhaps it is instances like the one I had are lowering the standards? read more

The notary service was quick, reasonably priced, and easy to use. The notary was very friendly.

I needed to return something and hadn't printed the shipping label because my printer hasn't been working, and I figured it would be easiest to just print here rather than stop at the library first. My bad; I learned my lesson!Obviously I knew I'd have to pay to have it printed, but I didn't realize that in order to do so I'd have to pay to rent five minutes of computer time. So the free shipping label I had cost me $3.15: $3 for five minutes to rent their computer and log into my email to print, and 15 cents for the copy itself. Man that's annoying when you can print at the library for 15 cents (if you have a card, probably) or at FedEx you can print if you use their print and go machines for less than a dollar. UPS Store is way behind the curve here and I'm super annoyed that this is their only solution for printing when we live in a digital world where lots of people (I'd suspect most people I know) don't have a printer at home. So learn from my expensive mistake and print at home, at the library, or FedEx before coming here. (It had to be shipped from UPS or I'd just have gone to the FedEx store once I learned about the cost.) read more

Avoid this place. They are inconsistent and unhelpful beyond the basics. I never see the same associate more than once so follow up is nonexistent. This place needs a new owner or new manager. Not sure exactly the point of failure. I tried to have a few packages held here and they were all denied delivery. I ended up redirecting to a different location that was out of my way. Each time the boxes looked like they were kicked to their destination. The people at the other ups store are more helpful so I no longer mind going out of my way. The service here is OK, but I can't help but get annoyed when you're polite to employees, but they act like you're yelling at them. I'm sure it's just a symptom of others being mean to them, but I am always polite, and I don't think it's too much to expect that in return. This all stems from my mistaken belief that you could go to UPS stores for UPS returns at no charge. I've been frequenting this location to pick up parcels over the last 8 months (getting deliveries in my building isn't advisable... rampant vandalism and theft). Everyone at this UPS Store is always congenial... but one employee, in particular, deserves notable praise... Gabriel. He is consistently warm and engaging... without a doubt, he's in the TOP 3 NICEST PEOPLE I've met in Chicago, since moving here in late 2010. Gabriel's manner and disposition truly make coming here a pleasure (and worth the 14-minute-walk). You know, I rarely ship stuff but when I actually have it's music equipment. I stopped in the other day and I think his name was Jon? James? I forgot unfortunately, but the gentleman was very helpful and genuinely wanted to help me out with my shipment. I even said I was going to create a label at home to save money, and he was really just concerned about me being comfortable in my choices. My experiences at this UPS location have generally been positive, with notable commendations for the excellent customer service provided by the store Manager and another staff member, I do not know their names but both of them wear glasses. During my recent visit to the store to seek a refund for passport photos (specifically for a China visa application) taken at this location, I encountered a discrepancy between the photos and the visa application requirements. Despite having received a refund for the digital passport photo earlier in the day (I was able to show that the digital photo was rejected for the online visa application, which complies to the UPS store refund policy), I returned to inquire about a refund for the paper passport photos. I had found the paper photo requirements from the official visa application website. Upon discussing the matter with a staff member that has long hair and colored eye shadow (I do not know the name of this individual), I expressed my desire to speak with the store Manager, who had assisted me earlier during the day. My exact words were "can I speak to the manager because he handled my case earlier today". I requested for the manager because I felt that he knows my case better and I didn't want to spend additional time to repeat or further explain my situation to this staff (the person with long hair) as I had to return back to work shortly. Regrettably, my request seemed to be misinterpreted as a complaint about the refund policy, leading to a dismissive response from this staff member. This person impatiently said "you're not going to get a refund and the manager is unavailable" and also "you don't need to bypass me". At this moment, I had thought maybe this staff member is going through a bad day and I will just dismiss the rude attitude. At this time, the Manager and another staff member (the same ones that I had mentioned in the beginning of this review) had overheard our conversation from the back of the store and promptly intervened. They then patiently explained the necessary steps for obtaining a refund. I very much appreciated their assistance, however, I was met with an unnecessary and unprofessional outburst from the aforementioned staff member. The person's rude behaviors included yelling at me from the cashier register "yeah you do not talk to me like that" as I was leaving the store. This person had also said "you can leave now". This had left me feeling unfairly treated. I am unsure if this has to do with the color of my skin but I feel wronged by the way this person had treated me as a customer. In no way I was being rude to this person so I do not understand the reasons for this treatment. Moreover, I was speaking directly with the store manager and the other staff once they showed up, so I am really unsure why this person felt the need to say the nasty things to me, not to mention that I was already walking towards the door to leave the store. I am writing this review to highlight the unprofessional conduct exhibited by the staff member in question. While I did not obtain the individual's name, it is evident that there is a need for this person to receive proper training in delivering at the very least, average quality customer service. The interaction left me feeling disheartened and overlooked. I maintained a composed demeanor throughout the interactions with the store staff, I do not believe that I deserved to receive such rude treatment from this person. In conclusion, I sincerely hope that steps will be taken to address and rectify such instances of poor customer service, ensuring a more pleasant experience for all patrons of this UPS store. read more

TERRIBLE new management and customer service. Been using this location to get packages delivered for years. Had a package sent there 2 weeks ago. It was sent back to sender because I didn't pick it up in time. Annoying but understandable. I guess. Had it sent again and went to pick it up. When I get there they say it's been sent back to the sender because I don't have a mail box there. This is new due to new management a month ago. Why was I not notified the first time? The box weighed 75 lbs., Not a ton, but not light. I waited, because I wasn't sure that the scale could take the weight, and wanted to make sure it was OK. If you read the other reviews, the $3+ charge for printing for one sheet of paper is a surprise to a lot of your customers. And not a pleasant surprise. Perhaps a sign explaining why it costs so much might help you keep customers. If you look at my amount of check-ins at your business, you'll see I was a very regular customer of the shop, and I had never been charged for that before. The intricacies of when you're charged and when you're not may be simple to you, but I'm guessing not to all of your customers. I waved my arms because your employee called me an a-hole, and used the full word. Apparently, customer service doesn't mean anything to either you, nor your employee, since neither of you apologized. The Clark Street UPS Store people were very pleasant, and have said, "Thank you for the business." and I'm happy to continue giving it to them. Your reply, and my reviews, showing that I'm usually a reasonable guy are all anybody needs to know when they're trying to decide where to take their packages. I love the convenience of this store in my neighborhood if I need to do weekend drop off ir mail a large box. Some of the folks in there are not always friendly or polite or welcoming, but these are random experiences. Because of it my husband have stopped going in, but i don't care, I get my packages mailed and thats all I'm concerned about. I always have my labels done anyway so it's to get a receipt and bolt. I never pay for in-store shipping as they are not a corporate store and charge horrendous prices. For all smaller packages, I take to work and drop off at ups downtown where the folks are always nicer and happy to answer any questions I may have. Again, appreciate the convenience of the location and the hours of service provided, as they are the only UPS drop off in the neighborhood. read more

Update: I elected to pick up my packages at a UPS Access Point, rather than get them delivered to my home, not because of "missed delivery," as the reply assumed, but because it is a more environmentally-friendly option. So no, I would not have had to drive to Northbrook. Logistically, it does save money for UPS corporate. I pay for shipping through the shipping fees that I am paying for my packages. However, based on this, it clearly would be more convenient for me and less convenient for UPS to just get packages delivered to my home, rather than having to go to a store to be treated rudely. Also, apologizing to someone for how they perceived your actions, rather than because you realized your actions were wrong is not a genuine apology. It's saying that I am the problem, rather than the rude employee is the problem. I came here at the end of the day to pick up a package. I simply said "I'm picking up a package," and handed over my ID when the guy behind the counter told me that he wouldn't give me my package unless I smiled. Um...what? And he repeated it a few times, so I am 100% certain of what I heard. I told him I didn't need to smile and that he just needed to give me my package. He sarcastically responded with "that's a great attitude to have." ......I'm a paying customer. Communicating my request and furnishing the required information should be enough. On top of that, that's just my normal facial expression, especially at the end of a long day, and you insinuating my facial expression is unpleasant for you to look at and that I should change it for you is incredibly insulting and sexist. Every single time I go there, I am greeted very professionally and with a very friendly manner from anybody working there. In a time where we are using Amazon to order so much, this is a MASSIVE benefit for making returns to Amazon in the hood. They will tape, gather and pretty much do anything needed to make sure my return or shipment gets sealed up how it is supposed to. First, the good: I came here some weeks ago to ship an item I sold online and it was very quick, easy, process. They are very good with shipping things! They also have very good printing service which was quick and easy; the forms I printed came out superb; it is a bit costly but I figured it would be so it wasn't too surprising. My main issue for deducting stars is for their passport photo service. I recommend that they relearn the rules for passport photos again given by the US Department of State website, which has extremely clear and careful directions. This store is not following these rules as precisely as it must (or they are following outdated guidelines, which are not longer valid). I think this store has the potential to improve this service by training all staff on the rules given by Department of State. My main issue with the photos that I was given is that the staff member took the photo far too up close with no space between the top of my hair and the top of the picture. I asked them to retake the picture, knowing the rules in advance, but the manger did not allow it and kept ignoring my request. She wasn't outride rude, but she was dismissive of my complaint and didn't believe me when I told her the rules. She did get nicer at the end once I paid and gave me an extra set of pictures (but they were of the same image, so it was very little use to me); I think she was worried that I would leave without paying because she reminded her staff member to ring me up before getting my photos. I was going to pay regardless but I wanted to get the service I was paying for and I did not get it (if customers pay before receiving a service/product, there is very little leverage they have for obtaining proper service--paying first makes sense with things like shipping, but with something so important as passport photos, one ought to only pay afterwards to guarantee the photos are done correctly). I ended up going to Walgreens nearby to take it again and spend another $15. Walgreens has biometric computers that detect all issues until your photo aligns perfectly with the guidelines. I recommend people go there for passport photos and let UPS focus on what they do best: shipping. Edit: increased stars for the very courteous reply by the manger. Clearly, they are trying to improve and that is always good in my book. read more

This is by far my favorite The UPS Store in the city. The staff is professional and friendly. I drop packages of here all the time and I ship packages here on a regular basis. As great as the staff is at this store I honestly cannot see how any reasonable person could ever complain. I'm not sure how this place has a rating this high, all I can imagine is that they've paid people for these random 5 star reviews. How do you only get 1 and 5 stars? Doesn't add up. I'm here to set the record straight. This place is what I would call a scam. If you need to print something they will have you clock into a computer and print to their printer. Seems reasonable right? That is until they tell you (after the fact) that 'computer time' costs something like $3 just to sign on and select print from a usb drive. And that doesn't include the print. I made 2 copies there and I believe it cost me $5. How does that make sense? When I asked, the guy played naive and just said that's how things work there. I will not be returning because guess what...there's another UPS a few blocks away! read more

Friendly staff and much more conveniently located than the FEDEX or dreaded USPS. They keep one parking space out front as a 15 minute free parking so it is easy to drop in to ship or pick up a package. read more

I called this store after being informed by UPS that my package was at this location versus my apartment building. I called the store as I was waiting on hold with Corporate UPS. I informed the guy who answered the phone that my package was there. He rudely asked for my information, was VERY short, and just left a bad taste in my mouth. I went in to get my package and of course the customer service was poor in person as well. I am going to make the extra effort to not do business with companies who ship through UPS if this is the kind of crap I will have to put up with. read more
