They always took the time to answer my questions and were quick to connect me with other resources if needed. I never felt rushed out the door and I always knew how to get in contact with them if needed. I really liked that I got a chance to meet all the midwives on my team. Having the midwives rotate for my prenatal appointments meant that I had built a strong rapport with each of them by the end of my pregnancy. This all but guaranteed that I would have a trusted and familiar face attend me at my birth. I also loved that the first 2 prenatal visits were done in my home. Not having to pack up a newborn and a toddler and rush across town to make it to an appointment on time was truly a godsend. In the end, I couldn't have been happier with my pregnancy and birth experience. I felt safe, empowered, and cared for. If another pregnancy is in my future, I will absolutely be returning to The Midwifery Group.

With both pregnancies, Team 3 took great care of us, and I always felt like I had ample time to address concerns and never felt like I was being rushed out the door. The midwives were informative, supportive and really advocated for me as they took the time to really understand what I wanted for my birthing plan. When complications arose, I felt taken care of, even if it also felt chaotic - I knew I was in good hands. I also appreciated the home visits postpartum, those visits were certainly integral in my recovery and for the early days in my daughters' lives. The midwives were collaborative with other providers in my care team (I.e. specialists, allied health providers) and the care was truly patient centered. Also, the front staff are amazing, friendly, helpful and easy to talk to as well. You could tell everyone really enjoyed working there/believed in that model of care, and I truly feel like that makes a difference. I wish I could continue receiving care here but sadly I've graduated from midwifery care. Woulid totally recommend!!

Protecting physiologic woman centered, mostly hands off, birth requires a deep trust (sometimes born of knowledge and other times its innate) of the process. Liza has this trust. First time birthers at home can require a little extra time and effort but what is the most helpful is a Doula, and birth team, that has a sagacious calm, lacking fear. The massage/bodywork element to her work was exceptionally therapeutic by itself, but I'm really glad that I decided to have her curate a full, intentional retreat. Erin is incredibly intuitive and a gifted healer. I felt very open with her. After only a brief discussion, I found her suggestions for activities while I was there so personally and insightfully tailored to what I was going through. Her recommendations really helped me get lost in "deep time." Checking in with her at the end of my time on Orcas to discuss what I did and the significance I found in it was helpful for me to process it, and our visits framed my trip in a meaningful way. it's scary to find out you're pregnant for the first time and not have a doctor! i was so happy to…read morelearn about the south community birth program and i felt so lucky to become a part of the community with a doctor, midwife and doula! i now even have a family doctor as our doctor started a practice for women in the program who did not have family doctors! we had 2 visits with our doctor or midwife before a series of 10 classes with other couples due around the same time as us. belly checks and general check-ins were done before the class or during the break. at the beginning, i felt like i needed more attention or reassurance that everything was ok but i guess i didn't feel it strongly enough to actually book a separate appointment for myself (which you can do). in the end, it's been a wonderful experience. we didn't really feel like we learned much from the classes, but it's been super fun getting to know the other couples in the class and share in this wild experience with them. we have our last of the 10 classes soon and all the babies will be born by then and eeeee, it's so exciting to hear everyone's birth stories and meet their littles! for the birth of our baby, we didn't know anyone in the labour room except for our doula but that was fine! our doula, michelle, was so amazing and it was so reassuring and calming to have someone there for me that totally knew what she was doing. we were able to leave the hospital the day our little lady was born. i totally believe that the community part of this program and the empowering theme of the classes (emphasizing choices and open minds over set biases) and the doula support is what makes this program a success for natural and complication-free birth. i am so grateful that we got to be a part of this program and had such an amazing birth experience!

I now believe that the addition of a compassionate and experienced doula is an absolutely invaluable resource for any couple planning and going through the birthing process. Immediately upon meeting Minette she gave off a warm and calming energy, essential qualities in my opinion for anyone assisting with a birth. We knew immediately she would be our doula. The birth of our son was a marathon. Thirty-six hours of labor, emotions, frustration, exhaustion and ultimately unbridled joy. Minette was there every moment comforting, assisting and supporting us throughout the entire experience. Quite frankly I don't know what I would have done without her. I say I because not only did she help my wife but she helped me. Minette is an excellent doula, a talented photographer and most importantly a kind and genuine person. As an expectant first time mom, I wanted to be under the care of a midwife for my pregnancy. I…read moreoriginally chose this group because they have privileges at Surrey Memorial Hospital, which is where I wanted to deliver. The group offers private sessions, but prefers to operate through group classes with mini one on ones during the class. These classes put you with 9 other couples all due in the same month, and you spend the time learning about pregnancy, birth and parenthood while also building a support system of other parents and getting to know the midwives. The midwives themselves are an excellent team. They provided my husband and I with information about all options, while letting us know what their preferred methods were without judgement. For example, they supported me without exception for my planned medicated birth in the hospital. My actual delivery was done with midwife Allison Burback. She was amazing, and helped me through my son's unexpected early birth. She's an extremely knowledge midwife, but also a wonderful person who is easy to work with. Her and the other midwives also provided amazing support for me and my family during our post delivery hospital stay and then during all of our postpartum care. If you are looking for a midwife to help with your home birth or delivery at Surrey Memorial Hospital, I would highly recommend the midwives in this group.
