We were on vacation from Florida and while traveling around the area we stopped by The Varsity for dinner. We've eaten here before many years ago when our kids were young. I remember the hamburgers being super tasty back then and always sparked a memory to want to come back. Today I honestly have to say the hamburger was disappointing. It wasn't bad but it also wasn't very good if you know what I mean... It was just OK and just had very little flavor. My wife and I both got the Glorified Hamburger with onion rings. The onion rings were VERY greasy!!! The fried Apple Pie really didn't have much taste to it other than greasy pie.... The Peach Pie was ok and had good flavor. My wife and I both liked the Fried Peach Pie the best. Our son-in-law said we should have gotten the Hotdog. He said he liked it. If we ever come back we will definitely get the hotdog for sure. The restaurant was clean. Everyone was friendly! The food came out very fast.

Eh. The burger was dry. I understand it's a staple in town so by all means go for it but you can def find a better burger at any of the fast food chains. Go for the experience and then don't go back lol.

I was here simply because I was chaperoning a field trip. I usually would not come to the Varsity. I will say that this location is better than the one in Atlanta. The burger was okay and so were the onion rings. The service was good, the cashier was patient as each chaperone had to order for their group of children.

The Varsity always fills me with memories of good days. Having spent time at the North Avenue Trade School (ME '89) I spend many days of my youth at the downtown location. The Kennesaw location is familiar when you walk in. The furniture and menu are the same, but the staff are a bit more relaxed, and a little slower. You don't have to worry about being yelled at if you step to the counter without your money out and your order ready. You can still hear a "Whatta ya have?" but overall the atmosphere is much more laid back. The prices seem a lot higher than I remember, but then the price of everything does. The food remains the same. One bite into those chili dogs or onion rings and my mind takes me back 35 years. Of course with the food being the same, I also know I am going to need some tums later this afternoon. I couldn't eat like this every day, but it is an occasional treat well worth it. I have to go 4 stars instead of 5 because of the price and the gastronomical distress I know will follow, but for pure enjoyment and memories it would be a 5.

Not the best ingredients. Not sure why Kent uses the phrase "Quality Foods"

Occasionally, I do find myself at the varsity. Whata you have, My standard order is two chili cheese dogs using pimento cheese, onion rings, a peach pie and varsity orange drink. After seeing what's in the hotdogs, I don't think I'll be ordering those anymore. Still love the varsity orange drink, and peach pie.

Just good ol' American fare! I thought all of the Varsity locations had ceased operation years ago and to see this one while out shopping for Christmas was a welcome surprise. I had the number one and a regular cheese burger. Everything was hot and delicious. They have a drive-thru window, outdoor dining, and a large parking lot. I recommend them for a quick lunch after shopping in the area.

I found myself in Atlanta, and being a lover of fast food, of course I had to try the Varsity. I might have gone to the original downtown, but the one in Marietta was just so much closer to where I was staying (with plenty of free parking,) so I took the easy way out. I had mentioned to an ATL native back home in Las Vegas, and when I mentioned to her that I was going to make a trip to the Varsity, she told me to get some Tums, as the hot dogs are total gut bombs, in her opinion. As it turned out, that was an exaggeration. The dogs are actually quite small, and you would have to down 2 or 3 of these tiny tubers to have the full gut bomb effect. I had one, so there was no issue. The weenie itself is a fine dog. I was expecting something flavorless, but it actually has a taste to it. Nothing overpowering, but it definitely has flavor and you will either like it or you won't. The chili is typical hot dog stand chili and the cheese is a mild cheddar, and that is a nice touch. The fries are fine, if a bit salty, and the fried peach pie is a pleasant junk food treat. So yeah, if you are in Atlanta (or Marietta) check it out.

We were greeted by at least three servers, who would ask us how many in our party, walk away, and then never come back. While there were plenty of tables and servers that we saw, it took close to 10 minutes to be seated in a booth facing a screen showing March Madness. Our server was nice and attentive once we finally got seated. My daughter LOVER her quesadilla. My salad was very filling, and I have to say that, even though it didn't look like there was dressing on it, there was a light drizzle that was actually enough to taste. Our server didn't hesitate to bring me a side of dressing anyway. So the food, itself, was pretty good. This looks like it would be a great place to watch some games, enjoy the covered patio outside, and maybe even have a group meet for lunch or dinner.

As a recent…read morepart-time resident of Marietta, I was desperate to find some decent cheese grits and not the bland, watery kind with cold American cheese thrown on top!! What they serve here is the gold standard!! Thick, perfectly seasoned and the cheese is already in there. On top of that fulfilled quest, they even serve up some sturdy, delicious bacon rarely seen these days. As a bonus, my sourdough toast even arrived with some peach jam. Breakfast was made complete with scrambled eggs and served with a smile by the friendliest waitstaff I've seen in a while. As you would expect, Saturday mornings in a breakfast joint are busy. They were, but did the service go lacking? Not at all. The vibe was happy because they had a roomful of satisfied customers. I've done the legwork for you, so get on over there as soon as you can!

As I was preparing my coffee, the customer behind me--who appeared to be of the same race as the cashier--also ordered an orange juice. At that point, the cashier stepped over, retrieved the juice herself, and announced, "That's the last orange juice." I immediately stated that I had already been sold an orange juice and asked what I was expected to receive. I was then told I could have apple or cranberry juice instead. This interaction left me confused and concerned, as the only apparent difference between how the two transactions were handled was race. Regardless of intent, the situation gave the clear impression that I was treated differently based on skin color. Experiences like this are unacceptable and deeply troubling. All customers deserve equal and respectful treatment. If you are tired of racism in any way shape or form stand up and do not support this. Let them know by keeping your hard earned money and taking it somewhere else.

First off, I love the history of this building... 1800s, supposedly the jail at some point long ago. You can just feel the history and imagine what took place in there as you sit and wait for your meal. The staff are all fun and attentive, and our server -- who was also tending bar that day -- was amazing! We were there early enough for the half priced apps, and weren't hungry enough for a full meal. I ordered a side salad with ranch, and we split the smoked nachos. When they came out, it was a huge portion and enough for both my wife and I. The only drawback is that they didn't have any sour cream that we could add to the nachos... It may seem trivial, but I've never needed anyplace that didn't have sour cream for the nachos. Because of that, I will give this a 4.75 stars. We will definitely be back!

Saturday night we decided to give it a try. Logged in and there was a 20-30 minute wait. It's about 15 minutes away so we put our names in and headed out. At the hostess desk the couple in front of us was told the wait was 45-50 minutes. At my turn I told her we were on the wait list. She checked, and we were seated within 5 minutes!. (They have " hand cut" steaks. Before taking us to our table I was able to select my steak from their case. ) This place is loud. It's a roadhouse, so I suppose the noise goes with that atmosphere. Loud music, and loud people, plus the wait staff sing and do line dancing occasionally, which is just weird. The food was good. They brought out rolls that were great. We had an order of Rattlesnake bites for appetizers. (Jalapeño, no rattlesnakes were involved.) My steak was a little over the rare I ordered, but edible. I ordered chili as a side which was delicious. My second side was a baked sweet potato, which came with brown sugar and cinnamon. (That wasn't listed on the menu and I don't do cinnamon so had to ask for a replacement. - My bad.) My wife had the "Roadkill" chopped steak. She said it was tasty, but a little greasy. All in all an ok experience. The meal total was less than the steakhouse we usually eat at. The noise level was the biggest negative!
