My father is obsessed with chili dogs. For his Birthday and Father's Day, I stop by this Varsity on the way up 75 from Atlanta to celebrate. I would grab him a box of dogs at the downtown location, but pulling off on Barrett Parkway ensures that they are as fresh as possible. Yesterday the man at the drive-through window got me especially giddy over my half-dozen order of chili dogs. "Are you ready? Are you ready?" he built the anticipation. I go here because I like the hotdogs but I love the onion rings....that is until today. The first order of onion rings I got were nearly cold and rubbery, the second order I got looked to me to be burnt! So disappointed in this location. I have been eating at different Varsity locations for 45 years. Today was their 90th birthday. They didn't prepare for the number of people that would show up. I got there at 11:05 and got in a line that was already out the door. By 11:45 I had moved five feet. They didn't have enough help there to get people through the line as quick as usual. I have wanted to try Varsity for years. We finally stopped on our way through the ATL. Not what I was expecting. Atmosphere and the paper hats are cool. Was unimpressed with quality of burgers and dogs. Burger flavor reminded me of school cafeteria food on a bad day. No seasoning and dry. Fries were pretty good though. Only positive comment from my wife was that at least she wasn't responsible for picking out this place for lunch. Glad I tried it now.... You know what this is and they deliver - from the naked dogs, chili, onion rings, FO and so on....It's the place you go when you want to get that memory every couple of weeks or reward/bribe kids for the report card or cleaning out the gutters.... This is the place me and other friends first went to after being a year on deployment overseas in 90-91 and we were not alone with the main room downtown looking like a PX with the number of uniforms from every branch. Double chili burgers are pretty good; fills the need for greasy, salty food cravings. Fries are good only when they are freshly cooked - as in just out of the fryers fresh. The Varsity is not the place it used to be. It's not nearly the way it was. The prices are extremely high. The hamburgers are overcooked. For those of us who must use something other than sugar in our ice tea these days they only offer sweet n low. The French fries and the fried pies are still great but that's about all there is. I visited their food truck several months ago and it was horrible. They had pre cooked hamburgers that were old and overdone, frozen french fries from the grocery store, no fountain drinks at all and no iced tea just Coca Cola products in cans. There are plenty of other places to go for hamburgers that are better and cost a lot less. It's too bad the Varsity experience has just disappeared. read more

Whenever my wife and I wanted to "get our oil changed," we'd head to the Varsity. I haven't been to this location in a year or so, but you'd think at 2pm on Sunday that they'd be busy. Well, they were slow, which makes poor service seemingly worse. How hard can an order consisting of a coke, fried peach pie, onion rings,chili dog and a chili burger be?? Waited over 10 minutes for the rings. The server asked 3 or 4 times for the rings... 6 servers standing around at the front counter and at least that many or more in the kitchen standing around. Must have all previously been TSA employees. Food not half as good as I remember. Rings limp, not crispy and the dog and burger had gotten cold sitting around waiting for the rings. Lousy food and lousy service. Though from Atlanta, home of the Varsity, I'm taking them off my list. Next time I want to get my oil changed, I'll go to Jiffy Lube! read more

I was born and raised in Georgia. Let me start with saying nothing can top the spirit or quality of the original downtown. I grew up in Kennesaw so this location was a place we went before or after a movie. I always order the chili cheese slaw dogs and they are well covered. I like how the buns a grilled.The fries are generous. Most items are usually fresh and quick. The food is overpriced but I cannot think of another place in Kennesaw with the same greasy charm. The 90th anniversary was a treat and that is what got me to start visiting again. You can utilize this location to avoid the downtown traffic but the energy is not the same. read more

I don't know why this place is the one they kept and closed North Point. This is easily the worst in terms of food. I do not understand why the fries are always soggy and limp. Even asking for them to cook them longer, they still come out raw, floppy, and wet. In addition to that, asking for pimento cheese on my hot dog (it's delicious, you should try it) usually results in a glob of the stuff in a disintegrated bun, rather than spreading it out along the entire way. A super delicious #4, which is a bacon double cheeseburger, French fries and a drink. I thought the fries were exceptional and tasty. The burger was not dripping with grease and had just the right amount of grilling. Seriously, I don't understand the hype...and I'm *almost* a Georgia native. Hubs says I don't get it because I don't order the hot dogs. He says they have the best hot dogs ever, anywhere. I am going to ignore other reviews and take this place with a grain of salt. They don't market themselves as some upscale fast food chain. No way. You can get an orange freezee and a hamburger for a few bucks. The Varsity (not necessarily this location) is a historical landmark to Atlanta and Georgia. Take it as it is. I moved to Atlanta a year ago and my husband assured me The Varsity is delicious. My first visit last year I ordered the chili burger/chili dog combo and was sadly disappointed that it had mustard on it even though the picture did not show mustard on it. That night I had the worst case of acid reflux I've ever had, which was so severe I thought I might die as I was gasping for air. The second visit which was today I knowing better ordered a hot dog, and cheeseburger without chili, onion rings, and a frosted orange. The food was ok, not particularly fresh, tasty, or well served. My kids French fries were a soggy unappetizing mess. The frosted orange is great, but tonight I am sitting with a severe stomach ache, angry that the pain I am enduring from this food wasn't a one off. So if you have even a slightly sensitive stomach (which I do not consider myself to have) I would not recommend eating here. read more

This was my first time visiting a Junior Varsity...it was okay. Ordered slaw dog and chili dog,fries and Frosty O... It was good... The best was the Peach Pie. I have been to this Varsity location as well as the downtown location. We went to the downtown location first and loved the nostalgia and environment! Any other time we have been it was to this location and while it doesn't feel as nostalgic, the food is the same! Personally, I loved the food and especially for the price.
