From the street this place can look very empty but the party starts in the back where there are many crowds and fun people lounging around and laughing. The Village is a great multi-room place to hang with friends and drink Vodka Sodas With Lime on repeat. The place is clean and the bartender from Spain was very welcoming to me and my husband. I thought this place was alright - a fairly typical spot for dancing and mingling. They played Top 40 and remixed pop songs, which most seemed to like. It was fairly easy getting a drink. I really like the upstairs area since it was a bit more subdued and was an unexpected oasis to the craziness in the basement. Location: The "gay" (but, what's really "gay" when you're in Europe) section of London: Soho. Atmosphere: Your typical, run-of-the-mill, small gay bar. There was a "drag" queen (I use that term loosely because I've seen better here in the States) who was performing Amy Winehouse songs. It wasn't very crowded, so my friends and I were able to grab a seat and watch a couple of songs being performed before moving on to our next destination. Drinks: Drinks were a little watered down, but cheap compared to surrounding full-service restaurants. Misc: My friends and i walked up to the front of the bar to entere and the bouncer stopped us. This cosy bar is quite popular with men of all ages though it mainly appeals to those who may be classed as quite camp, probably enticed in by the fact that it often has go-go boys dancing on one of it's two bars. The bar is also popular with European men or older men so, if you're into hot Spanish guys or geriatrics, then this is the place for you. I am truly - a fan. I loved the music - I hurt my throat a little while shouting out trying to sing along for about an hour to some pop things. The staff was friendly and the people were friendly too and the sort of people you would end up having a great chat with for half hour without realising it. Female bathrooms are probably not their strongest point (no locks! so my friend had to guard a door) but overall it was fine. The bar does a range of cocktails and I strongly recommend coming up there around 11pm (we went on Friday) to find a table where you can enjoy a nice 'Cocktail kiss' (some delicious, coconutty thing) before hitting the downstairs. Downstairs they have a proper club where you can try some pole dancing (I did and it was fun!). Although sometimes people fought for the pole a bit too much I thought! Overall - definite yes and definitely coming back! P.S. they have a lot of eye candy too - go-go boys at the bar, though they weren't there for long enough! read more

I would say we were about 70% sure of the establishment we were entering before we walked in, but the bouncer was sure to point it out. Bouncer: "Are you gay?" Me: "No." Bouncer: "So what are a small group of girls doing coming to a gay male bar? If you cause any problems, touch the men or upset anyone, you're out. And you better drink if you're going in." Village is a great place to start your night out in Soho and well worth a visit if you're new in town. The place is really friendly, and has some of the friendliest bouncers in town. I used to come a lot after work and they always had a laugh poking through my tupperware and work clothes in my bag on the way in. Yes, it's camp (come on, you're in Soho!) and there are gogo boys dancing on the bar. Great if you're waiting for someone, it somehow manages to pass the time. The music policy is cheesetastic and doesn't stray too far into proper dance music, great for a club/bar of this size. I probably wouldn't spend my afternoons here as the place shows it's age in the cold light of day. However, in the evening when it's a bit fuller, the atmosphere really changes and becomes a lot sexier and fun. They do charge on the door later on, but I've never found it extortionate. November 2021 I should start by saying that I hadn't been out in London for a couple of years after the passing of my partner & my mum both within eight days of each other. So although I was nevous about putting myself out there again this was meant to be a happy experience for me. I remembered The Village Soho from before so thats where I decided to go. The barstaff were very friendly as was the gentleman who I had a lovely conversation with about his dog & my rescue cat. Unfortunately i'm afraid to say that my night took a dramatic turn for the worse later on. I was left injured, bruised & traumatised when I was (what can only be described as) assulted by a member of the door staff for no apparent reason other than he had taken a dislike to me. Whilst in the roped off smoking area outside he decided to tell me that ''I looked intoxicated'' which I know I was most certainly not. The whole conversation & the way he was talking to me felt strange & somewhat personal so I removed myself from the situation & went inside. A while later that same person came into the venue obviously looking for me & demanded there & then that I leave. I asked why he simply replied ''because I want you too''. I then asked to speak to the venue manager at which point he physically aggressively manhandled me & practically throw me into the street having used an excessive amount of force (i'm a 5'-7'' 51 year old man). The whole experience left me very traumatised & upset, not least because it was the first time I had felt confident enough to go out socially after being diagnosed with Bells Palsy in 2019 which in my case has not & will not completely go away therefore my mouth has a slight droop on one side which I am extremely self conscious about. I was visibly upset by what had happened & people were doing their best to console me including by this point the other doorman from the main entrance who was lovely & when asked, confirmed to me that I certainly did not seem intoxicated or drunk. I intend to try & speak to the general manager of The Village to get to the bottom of what happen & at the very least an apology however I can't help but feel that my complaint will not be taken seriously. The Village Soho was the first ever gay venue that I went to many years ago & I have so many fond memories of it which makes what happened all the sadder. London can be a scary place at times especially when you are not local but the least you should be able to expect is to be treated with respect & to feel safe at least whilst inside a gay bar or club in London & not made to feel bullied or vulnerable. It remains to be seen what response I recieve on Monday when I attempt to speak to the general manager at which point I will update this review. Maybe it was simply that I was middle aged & I didn't fit the venues age demographic but that doesn't ring true to me. However after my experience I would advise anyone out alone or who has a slight disability that makes you look slightly different to be very weary of this venue. read more

First the good points, The Village is a swanky bar set in the heart of soho, attracting the mixed gay crowd who enjoy a good cocktail and a gossip. The décor is subtle but cozy and even on a weekend there is generally enough room to swing a cat. Set over three floors you have it all, dancing in the basement, swigging cosmopolitans on the first floor and a bit of flirting upstairs, Village is a great place to start your evening. The negative points, the staff. Unfortunately the Village falls in to that oh so familiar pattern of trying there very best to be as rude as possible. haaah! Well, the first thing you'll notice are the flocks of tourists stopping outside and oggling and taking pictures of the entertainment in the windows. It's a super-cheesy gay disco a go-go. The first time I came here was actually with a straight friend that wanted to see some men shake their asses, and it was perfectly hilarious and entertaining. They've got a shot-girl that will walk around and mix up some deadly potions from her bottle-holster-belt at your table to get you in the spirit of things. Another gay bar that we enjoyed in London was called The Village. We weren't there for karaoke, but apparently, if you sing on certain days between certain times, you get a free drink. Well, that's motivation to sing. On their menu, the only food listed is "spicy chicken wings." I don't know if they have it or not, but it's interesting that it is the ONLY food listed on the menu. It was busy when we were there. However, we did manage to find a table and sit and talk. It was a good ambiance. It was less packed than some places. There were some places in Soho that we didn't even try to get in because they were so full. This place was nice and enjoyable. The drinks were reasonable as well. read more

A great fun night out with a good looking young crowd of guys and fab music with a guest DJ on Friday and Saturday nights and sometimes midweek too. Also on Fri and Saturday nights are the infamous gorgeous gogo boys, toned, tanned and perfect and often clad in miniscule pants. The Village is not a particularly cheap night out in terms of drinks prices but the entrance and the entertainment is free and the bar prices are fair considering this. They also offer a great range of cocktails and the friendly fun (and gorgeous) bar staff there really know how to mix a drink. Seating options in the main bar can be a bit limited sometimes as the place does tend to get very busy, especially on Fri and Saturday nights (probably due to the aforementioned gogo dancers!) but the crowds add to the general atmosphere and buzz of the place. All in all a great night out, I would highly recommend it. read more

We discovered The Village the evening of our first full day in the city. It's at the end of Old Compton Street, next to the shop with pink neon in the window. It was a Saturday and the place was packed. The music was good, the bartenders were friendly, the crowd was friendly, and it was an interesting space. My husband and I found a spot to sit and unwind and enjoy a glass of wine or two ... and really enjoyed ourselves. So, after a long day of museums and site-seeing, and a short nap in our Fabulous Hotel (the every Hotel in Piccadilly Circus), we'd stroll down to Village, enjoy a beverage and plan the evening. Husband and I got there and it was weird that the bouncer with the ear walkie talkie was behind the bar so we stood clear of him, come to find out he was offended that we didn't order a drink from him after another bartender looked at him like he was coo coo for not taking our order... he was a "bartender"... owner,, not sure but he served us and served us well after making us feel guilty, lol. After that he had a great attitude and obviously a big deal and very helpful throughout the establishment. Opps lol. Fun men allllll over the place, fun music, lower floor had plenty room to dance and upper floor had cute Love seats that gay and straight couples enjoyed and even became friends at. Pink Glitter bar is very uplifting :) Missing star for doubles being 1.5 and awkward beginning but it was a fun place. The Village is about as generic a gay bar as you can get in central london. Over-priced alcohol, table top go-go dancers, annoyingly perfect looking bar staff and loud pop music. I find the Village is always somewhere good to pop into rather than spending the whole evening. It's free to get in before a certain time so that's a plus and the upstairs bar is much better than downstairs. If you're single it's a good place to meet some boys, especially 30 minutes before the last tube. read more

The Village became our little go to bar for our 5 day stay in London. It has three levels and all three are pretty small but hey its London right. The weekdays are obviously less crowded but on a Friday or Sat night the place can get pretty full espically in the front entrance area. They have go-go boys, cute bartenders, and a very crowded downstairs dance area that was a lot of fun. People are generally friendly and easy to spark up a convo with which is always nice. If I lived in London this would be my spot for sure. read more

The clean and traditional-chic upstairs boudoir room is wonderful for sharing those intimate moments with special friends, and the Underground bar has unusual onion shaped seats which are really comfortable. The Village Soho, on the corner of Old Compton Street and Wardour Street, is a destination of choice for 20 and 30 something London gay boys. Spread over three floors, with dancing downstairs, and compfy 1970s sitting room furniture upstairs, there's plenty of space even on busier evenings (Thursday through Saturday). Front bar sometimes even features go-go boys. The sleek industrial style ground floor bars are the place to grab an after work drink but dont expect speedy service. In the summer French windows are opened and the place can be pleasantly breezey. But, there are nicer places to get a more relaxed drink - this is a sceney place and somewhere to see and be seen. read more

This is an old stale of the mixed / gay soho scene and has morphed through different looks and feels over the years. Its a really friendly bar and one which attracts a nice group of customers and has much less of the attitude attached to some of the other bars very close by. Its on a couple of levels but my favourite is the ground floor near the main entrance, especially during the evening when its not too busy and has a very nice, almost cozy feel.
