I visited The Vyne with reluctance, expecting it to be rather dull. However i was suprised to find that it was beautiful! From the carpark to the main house is quite a long walk through the grounds and crossing a bridge over two lakes. There is a rather uninspired walled kitchen garden, which i suspect would be beautiful in June, but was rather tired in September. Currently being renovated is the old summer house, which is an impressive round building with a cone shaped roof. The gardens are laid out formally, impressive to look at but not something you'd necessarily want to copy at home! The house is impressive - (and is a wedding venue if you can afford it!) and looks like it should be in a tv period drama, with a vast lawn leading down to the lake. The house closes earlier than the grounds, so if you want to take the walk along the lake, I would advise you do it after the visit inside the house! Enjoy the views from the first floor! The tearooms are reasonably priced, tea or coffee is about £1.20 and for about £1.50 you can get a large slice of homemade(?) cake. Quite expensive to visit, but nice for a day out somewhere quiet where you can pretend to be Miss Bennett.. read more
