We knew about the Walled City Brewery before visiting Derry, but what we didn't know was that they have very limited hours. During our stay, Monday - Thursday they are only open for a small window between 5-8:30pm. We decided not to go the brewery tour, so I can't comment on if it is worthwhile, but I think I would try doing it next time if we ever were to go back to Derry.  The brewery has a full restaurant which has fantastic reviews and was also recommended by our friend who has gone before. We weren't hungry yet for dinner, so we opted to just visit the Taproom. The Taproom is also very cool and has a great vibe with interesting artwork. What we really liked about this brewery was it felt like a craft brewery and offered a lot of variety in their beers. It was the first place that we found that offered a sour beer, they had a wit beer, and they even had a hard seltzer (which honestly wasn't very good unless you like gin drinks). We enjoyed a few drinks and the music for a hour or so before deciding on dinner. read more

4.5 stars for lunch w/ brew I got the Cauliflower Steak at 12€ and a taster set of 3 brews (the Boom, Punt Purse, and the IPA 2.3%). The Cauliflower Steak was absolutely delicious with some fantastic flavors to it, and thankfully it was NOT greasy (unlike some other places I ordered cauliflower in the UK). I would highly recommend this dish. As for my taster set, the Punt Purse and 2.3% IPA were both fine, but it was "the Boom" that stole the show in my opinion....I should've just gotten a pint of that. The only negative was our server, who didn't seem into his job at all. The attention he gave us was all quite perfunctory....maybe he was just having an off day because he had something serious on his mind that day, but if not, he might consider looking for a position other than a server (since he clearly didn't seem to be into it). read more

I came here for the beer, but I'll rave about the food. Food made at a brewery can be a bit of a risk, but this was exceptional. There is a good diversity of beers on tap and I was pleased both with the IPAs and Wit beer. The pour good size pints on the IPAs...which is not a given. As an American, I order burgers in the UK & EU with great trepidation. However their burger was warm, tasty and juicy. The fries came in bowls or tins, so came out warm. When I ordered ketchup, they brought out a proper container to meet the moment. Two of my friends ordered the steak and both were cooked as requested (M & MR) and I am told we're both flavorful. My daughter ordered the cauliflower steak said it was juicy and flavorful. Beware ordering the beef cheek as it was out of stock when we tried. How're the pork filet was an outstanding backup for the person who went for the cheek. Would return here unreservedly. read more

We were still in quite a food coma from the lunch we had when we walked across the Peace Bridge to the Walled City Brewery, where we were supposed to have dinner. Despite how full we were, we still had a wonderful time at the taproom of the small gastropub during our stay in Derry/Londonderry. We started with drinks, with myself ordering a Pint of Wit and Kicks Derry Lager; both were very good and refreshing, allowing us to enjoy some fried calamari and house-smoked Grant's Pork Belly. The latter came with black-eyed peas, smoked bacon, and braised greens. Both dishes were incredibly satisfying on the palate, with the calamari cooked to perfection and served with some lovely marinara sauce to dip. The pork belly was savory and satisfying that we enjoyed to the last bite with the greens and black-eyed peas. Both dishes, I'll add, were gluten-free, so both my wife, who has celiac disease and I could enjoy with glutinous glee. The beers were clean and crisp, definitely satisfying the palate as we ate our food. Indeed, the brewery was a nice change of pace from the other pubs that serve primarily Guinness and other nationally known beers. With excellent vibes and tasty beverages, the Walled City was everything we were seeking in a restaurant and bar, good drinks and food, which had we not been as full, we would have ordered more items for sure. Whenever we return to Derry, I'm sure we will make our way back to the brewery to try more of the local bar fare. read more

Such a great place to go for dinner! Make sure to call ahead and make a reservation as they are pretty popular and therefore busy. My waitress was so friendly and very helpful in answering all of my questions. I have a dairy and gluten allergy and when I informed the hostess, she went back to check with the chefs and brought me a menu that was completely marked with what could and couldn't be made gluten & dairy free. So awesome that the chefs took the time to do that and that this restaurant is serious about food allergies! On to the food and drinks: I ordered 3 starters for my meal (only £10). -Ribs: 4 stars. Good and standard ribs. -Pork cakes: 5 stars. Absolutely delicious flavor pairings with the cakes and the salad. -Hummus and gluten free bread: 5 stars. Fantastic gluten free bread, tasty hummus, and nice salad toppings. -Running for the Hills Cocktail (lavender mojito): 5 stars. AMAZINGGG!!! I haven't had a mojito yet in Ireland and it was absolutely delightful. The lavender was just the right amount and the purple hue in the drink was so pretty. -S'mores dessert: 5 stars, although if you are not gluten free or dairy free/ vegan this is not what you traditionally think of as a brownie and marshmallow dessert. If you're used to breweries this does not have the brewery "vibe". It requires reservations and has place settings at tables.

Stopped for a quick bite and to sample the beers. The food came quickly and HOT. As shown in the pictures, we ordered cheesy fries, hummus of the day, and a flight of 3 ( Derry IPA, Punt Purse red ale, and Foyster oyster stout). The potatoes were well cooked, with not too much crust and a finely grated Parmesan. There was a cheesy melted butter surprise at the bottom of the bowl that we used to add even more decadence to the potatoes. The pita was hot and fresh. The hummus came with a red pepper sauce on top and a little drizzle of sour cream. The hummus initially seemed to have a stronger than expected cumin flavor, but that wasn't a bad thing and we agreed that somehow it didn't seem as strong later on. There was a nice lemony touch as well, and I'd definitely order this again. The IPA was a good, representative IPA, not overly hopped, but more hoppy than the generic IPAs. Very drinkable and I'd love a full pint next time. On the other hand, I'd probably start with the red ale, a very well balanced, not too heavy ale. This was the winner of the 3 in our flight. The oyster stout was a good stout, not the best ever, but a very good stout. Unlike many, this did not have the annoyingly overdone flavor that makes you wonder if you ordered coffee instead of beer. That's a big plus for me. Try it out. Go a few times so you can sample more of the menu and more of the beers. read more

This is a fantastic restaurant and brewery. We were able to walk here from our hotel so that was a bonus. Being from the US we are not use to brewery's having other options BUT this had place had so much more - which was awesome for me as I am not a big beer fan. I let our wait person recommend local ciders and my hubby followed recommendations for their beers. Here is what makes the recommendations so good - the waitress didn't just recommend her favorites but asked about out preferences and then offered suggestions. We had multiple small plates that we shared. Everything was exceptional and the presentation beautiful. By sharing so many small plates we had plenty of room for dessert and it didn't disappoint. My only complaint is that they insist on reservations. So we made one as we were walking to their location. Really shocked to find one other couple in the bar area and no one else. I probably would have been more bent except that the entire bar and dining area filled up when we were half way through our meal. The dining area when full got a bit loud - however I never felt like I was having to yell. Overall I would go again food, drinks and service all above average - one of our favorite spots on our holiday. read more

They have more than beer here, they have a great menu of good choices of food. The appetizers are plentiful and shareable including some unique dips, seasonal soup served with soda bread. The risotto we had was fantastic. The pulled pork sandwich wasn't as good as Southern U.S. but it was pretty good. The service is very welcoming and friendly. They serve their beers in tasting flights of 3 or 1/2 pints too if you want to try several. Definitely worth locating just on the other side of the pedestrian peace bridge away from the historical walled section of town. read more

Really fantastic menu. I was extra stoked on the halloumi burger, though it didn't quite live up to my expectations, as the piece of halloumi wasn't as big as the bun and there was waayyyyyy too much olive tapenade on it. And the pieces of veg were too thick. The flavors were there, though! Just hidden. Our appetizers were delicious and our server was cool. Didn't get good vibes from the girl behind the bar, though. Either way, it's worth a stop if you can get your cab driver to go through the gates literally into the walled city. It's off limits to regular traffic, apparently. Good luck! Great little spot albeit hard to find. Tucked away in Ebrington we found street parking and then walked inside the gates. Ebrington is an old naval facility and much of the gates are still up, so getting inside is a little difficult if you're not coming from the peace bridge. We ordered a couple beer samplers and a Tempted Cider, both were excellent. For food we ordered the burger, pig pulled sandwich and Pintxo (aka small snacks) of ribs, pita and soup. The food was excellent but the burger a bit sweet (they use tomato jam), would recommend the pig if you're looking for a more savory flavor. Service was good, not great but felt like they're still finding their groove. Our waitress was very kind and definitely trying. It wasn't worth a negative star because we enjoyed the place so much but worth noting you shouldn't come here if you're in a rush. We were visiting Derry for just two nights. Being craft beer lovers, we looked to see if there were any local breweries. We discovered Walled City Brewery, which is easily found by walking across the Peace Bridge. The first evening, we were planning to have a beer or two then walk back into central Derry for dinner; however, there's apparently some law in Northern Ireland that requires food with beer....I have no idea what the specifics are. We ordered a variety of five small plate options, all of which were fantastic. The next night, we had no question what our plan would be for dinner. We returned for Walled City Brewery with empty stomachs ready to enjoy the full array of options. We were not disappointed! I had the Sunday special, a pot roast that was a wonderful and unique take on a traditional favorite. My spouse had the pork chop, which was also flavorful and delicious. We were thrilled with the food and the beer! The one thing better than the food, beer, and location -- the great service from the entire staff on our first evening (everyone was SO friendly and helpful) and then Naomi really made sure we were taken care of the second night. (She remembered us from the previous night.) We very much appreciated her conversation and recommendations! Simply stated....if you're in Derry and like good food and/or beer, go to Walled City Brewery. If you're very lucky, Naomi will be working that night. read more
