I've noticed a handful of one-star reviews mentioning the owner is rude. That is disappointing. I love shopping here. The owner is an eclectic lady who has created such a unique store with wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling treasures. I've shopped here for years and always find a cool or unique scarf for myself or gifts for friends and their children. Everyone loves them! Should the one-star reviewers check themselves? Maybe. I came to the smaller store the other day with my daughter which is on the dock and had a wonderful experience. The woman working the counter was so kind and friendly. My daughter loved the store. I purchased something. We came back to eat near there and I went down to look again, store was closed but mentioned the one up the street. So again I brought my daughter. She loved some cat ears so she was holding them til we were ready to buy. I even said don't let us walk out without paying, as the store has a lot going on and I didn't want to forget. We went to the other side I noticed the woman behind the counter (not the one from the other day) had just happened to come up there and was looking around. My daughter found a purse she wanted to match the ears but before we could go swap the ears, the woman asked me and ONLY me, "was I done yet" I said no I'm not she proceeded to say "okay well I'll hold those behind the counter till you're ready". Are you kidding me? The ears were $5 the purse was $15. This is not "valuables". It rubbed me the wrong way completely and if my daughter wasn't so happy with them, I would have left the stuff and walked out. It left a bad taste in my mouth. You implying I would, what, steal? DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!!! The owner is the rudest most disrespectful excuse for a human being I've ever met. Masks are required (which is perfectly reasonable) but when I went to ask if they had extras so I could enter the store, I was YELLED at, treated like a criminal, and kicked out of the store (and heard the owner yelling about me to another customer). I have shopped here before with no issue but will never shop here again because of this unnecessary altercation. I regret putting money in the pocket of someone who doesn't value my business. I go to saltspring each summer. Each time we come we make it a priority to come to this store for their fun merchandise. But every time we go we find something wrong with the service of who I assume is the owner. She has tried to blame me or my family for damaging items. I can see the concern of us trying some of the items on but it is always a very extreme response. For example this time we came I tried on a shirt. She came over to tell me to take it off because I had damaged it. I noticed it had a pull in the fabric before putting it on but she didn't believe me. Then she tried to blame me for a hat being damaged. I didn't even have the hat on. She claimed I stepped on it but I was with my cousin and neither of us noticed us stepping on anything. Then she said we are not paying costumers even though we have bought many items In the past. My mother got involved and asked her why she was speaking to us so rudely, and she just said it was our problem and to get out. I wouldn't shop at this store again. Not only was the owner over the top rude but she won't let anyone try on or touch the merchandise, which makes no sense for a retail store! Avoid this place. read more

Really fun store, packed to the gills with unique clothes, jewelry, trinkets, etc. A must-see for any Salt Spring trip. And yes, two years into the pandemic, you are expected to be wearing a mask BEFORE you enter. I had no issues with my interactions with the owner, I found her to be kind and polite. read more

Another "I got to the ferry early" Yelp Salt Spring edition! You are welcome you eager mainlanders! This place is a hop, skip and a jump away from the Fulford Harbour ferry and well worth popping your head in the door when you ultimately get to the ferry an unneeded 45 minutes before the sailing. Now i'm a hat addict. I have a beret for every day of the week, a pillbox in thee different colours and I look darn fine in a bowler - so it's no surprise that I make my way here with the mother unit on the regular. It's a lovely little hat shop with a great selection for both men and women. They also carry some jewellery and I think some beads but to be honest, i've never really looked... i'm always distracted by some pretty fancinator. The prices are reasonable and most of the hats are hand made which is always nice to see. The last time I was in, they had a few beautiful bags tucked in the corner as well. Definitely worth poking your head in post spicy chai (Morningside) and muffin (Mercantile). Honestly, after that tour, you'll start getting to the ferry early on purpose! read more

I took my 9 year old daughter into the shop after spending a wonderful day on Salt Spring. Our first trip to the island. She was very excited to see all the beautiful jewelry and things. That is until she found 2 tiny pieces of shell on the floor in among some sand and showed me them. I told they were cute and she put her hand in her pocket and I guess the owner of the shop was following us because she looked at me then at my daughter and said " did she just put beads in her pocket?" I said no, she has a couple pieces of shell she found in the sand on the floor" and she said in a rude tone "in my store" " She really shouldn't put them in her pocket from my store" I said you're kidding right? They were not even from the store, they looked like someone had dropped them from the beach!! She was horribly rude to me and my daughter was hurt and embarrassed. I put the pieces on the counter and said " this is absolutely ridiculous" That was not the only instance where she was rude to someone in our group today. A couple young girls took a couple pictures in the store for our photography group, they hadn't seen her no pictures sign, and she got all bent out of shape telling them she had $50,000 worth of jewelry right in front of her and how the girls pictures were a security risk!! She is absolutely horrible and doesn't belong dealing with the public. We will NEVER go to her establishments again. I am posting this review on other social media platforms and will be contacting the Salt Spring Island Chamber of Commerce. Her behavior was disgraceful, intimidating a 9 year old little girl!! Shame on you!! I am sure you will come back with some BS nonsense to try to justify your behavior but we know the truth and so does everyone in our group. Terrible ending to a wonderful day. I gave 1 star only because I can't post without something. She gets nothing from us I notice on positive reviews there are pictures of the inside of the store and not a single complaint from the owner, there a lots of pictures of the inside of the store online. read more
