If you like a bar with live music in Amsterdam, I can't imagine a better spot. It's right in Leidseplein steps from a tram stop, and walking distance from our hotel, so it was perfect. They have a large menu of beers, liquors, and cocktails, all very cheap, and they did not charge cover when we visited on a Thursday around 9:00 pm. The band was spectacular. They played a list of crowd pleasing covers and even took requests. Very fun place. We passed by late on a Saturday, and there was a huge line to get in, so we recommend coming during the early show on a weeknight - early for them is around 8-10 pm. Their website is great and lists the bands playing. I believe they have at least one if not two live acts every night of the week. read more

We had about 45 minutes to wait for a table at the restaurant we wanted to eat at nearby, so we wandered in here for some beers. We came in during the week, so not too busy, but you can easily see how this place gets hopping. They have pool tables and a definite dive bar vibe, which we actually dig. They were blasting some sort of cheesy 80s metal when we came in, so there's that. We had a few beers, and they've got some decent specials that keep it cheap. Our bartender was a lovely young lady who was really fun to chat with, and she was very attentive. Can't comment about much else, since this was just a short stop, but we would definitely come back for drinks again if nothing else. read more

Great bar, and cheap drinks. We got over our jet lag here, and we came back again another night. It's a good, dirty rock club, like we're used to in the good ol' USA, except it's better, 'cos it's in Amsterdam. I enjoyed myself the first time I came here, it was not as crowded and loud. The second time, it was a bit more crowded, and not as fun. It's appealing though, as it looks like more of a neighborhood pub than some of the clubs nearby. read more

This was a very cool bar, great atmosphere. They have a sign saying that you can only smoke marijuana, no tobacco. I even liked the shitty cover band doing horrible versions of American Classic Rock - something you shouldn't leave Europe without seeing. read more

Found out about this place from asking around and google. Super packed, they had a Halloween contest, great band playing with great sound! They played awesome covers! We sang and danced until 2 am. Such a great night! Drinks were not horribly priced. Ordered a beer and jack and coke. I would recommend this bar to other ppl and I would def visit again. read more

The Waterhole is a fantastic place to chill and enjoy a nice frosty pint. they have live music every night, and sometimes on sunday from 18:00 (these guys are great!) you can expect a varity of (rock) cover bands. some are better than others. they have happy hour on the frosty pints at €3.50 from 14:00 till 21:00, but keeping in mind that it's Bavaria beer, I don't really see the any perks. The other drinks on the menu are very €€€, and you will only get a small shot (0.35CL, this is automated, so the staff is not at fault!!) a sode will cost you about €3.- and a small beer would be the same. After 21:00 you pay €2.- cover charge. they have 3 pool tables. A game of pool costs €2.- but you can pay €5.- and become a "member" and play as many games as you like between 14:00 and 21:00. Due to the fact that it is so touristy, you are well advised to check your coat with your valuables. Because, where there are tourists, there will be pickpockets, despite the very capable security. the staff is super friendly, and always up for a laugh! be sure to tip them at least 20% so they will remember your face when you want to order again! ;o) not that they wont serve you if you wont, it is just a hard job and they work like dogs to keep everybody happy. read more

Actually, the music sucks:) but it is hard to find a good rock-bar in Amsterdam. If you like rock music, then u can go and listen lots of different amateur bands here. Maybe u can meet a good band by chance which i could not. Also u can enjoy playing pool while listening to music. It is a good experience that can be tried.. read more

Simply an unpleasant place. You can get the drinks you want but the look and feel is definitely dirty. It is a tourists trap for tourists. You can get the occasional live concert from unknown local bands which can be ok. I was here 2 weeks ago and was introduced to the Last Waterhole by the locals. The Good ~The cover bands are pretty decent! ~Beers are reasonable priced ~They have a smoke room - in Dutch this means NOT tobacco ~The bartender Caroline is from the USA and is really friendly. I tend to find most locals in AMS don't really like us loud American Tourist types :) so finding the last waterhole was a score! ~Cover is literally 1 euro. Not too bad. I love this place. It always has live music which is a rare thing in Amsterdam. It has got a rock bar style decor and crowd. Nice vibe. They have about 4 pool tables and a smoking area inside. On the busy nights you must check in your coat (1 dollar). This service is at the door and is quite fast. (Don't lose your tag otherwise you do need to wait until all coats are retrieved by the end of the night). We were there last Monday evening and were were offered a complementary bowl of popcorn with our drinks and they had an awesome Halloween decoration. read more

Dont ever go to this place!! A complete rude staff at night in the door, the doormen pushes everyone around, the coat lady yells and throws the coats at people when leaving or collecting, and they literally INSULT! and the worst part of my night that A THIEF STOLE MY PHONE from my bag which I always carried with me. It becomes so crowded that you dont even feel whether you get robbed. The place looks cool, music is cool, but it really doesnt worth taking that risk. I do not suggest this place at all. A terrible place. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Went there tonight to see the performance of a band that came to the Netherlands all the way from Canada and another, Dutch band (not cover bands). When the bands arrived, it turned out there was no sound. The place had no sound engineer and the bartender informed them there was no electricity and didn't try to help. The place was nearly empty, the only people were the ones who turned up for the bands. Not to disappoint them, the Canadian band played unplugged, and did their best, and in the meantime their name was wiped off the board in front of the door, as if they were not playing. The bartender was rude and in a hurry although there were hardly any customers; toilets are PAID after 21.00 (yes, even for customers) and there was no soap and toilet paper; quite unbelievable, but true. When some of the musicians and their fans went outside for a while, and then wanted to come back in, they were asked to PAY the entrance fee... a musician was asking to be allowed in just to take out his instruments... I hope they didn't have to pay in the end, luckily we didn't have to pay to get out. Having read the reviews here, I wondered if the owners or their friends wrote them. A "fun place"? "Good vibe"? A great pub with Live-Music. Not much space to sit down and rest, but you'd better dance and sing along to the band or wait to be served at the bar, anyways. I had an amazing night with lovely music and super-nice people. Only four out of five because you have to pay to use the toilets not acceptable. Still, I strongly recommend the Waterhole. read more
