Our stay was ok-- but, we had two issues: 1. Honestly, the room was "dog-scented". Yes, we had our little pooch with us, and booked our stay accordingly. That said, why, why, why, do the dog-friendly rooms have carpeting??? The carpeting is old, and obviously, has been visited by many, many pets. *Tip-- vinyl flooring is much easier to keep clean if a hotel accepts pets. 2. When we inquired about the Cannon Beach Trolley we'd read about in guidebooks, the young woman working the desk had no idea whether or when the trolley ran. She suggested we check at the bus stop. This seems like it should be basic information for front desk staff in a vacation town motel. On the positive side: 1. Eirin was pleasant to work with, 2. The coffee for the room coffee pot was better than most, and, 3. Housekeeping did a good job straightening/cleaning the room (but of course, there is no way they could erase the stinky carpeting). read more

This is such a cute inn to stay at if ever in Cannon Beach! The front staff is so lovely. We stayed in a room on the third floor. You do enter from the outside, so there's only stairs available. I booked a king bed and it was such a spacious apartment stile room, with a giant living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. The balcony has a beautiful room and the beach is right across the street. There's a grocery store right across the street that sells firewood, which we got and made a bonfire on the beach. The hotel provides a wagon to carry your things to the beach, towels and blankets! They have free chocolate chip cookies and saltwater taffy available at the front. There is free parking there, which is a huge plus coming from a big city where you have to pay everywhere. We only stayed here for one night, but I wish we stayed longer. We spent a weekend here in March of 2022. Nice double room facing the ocean. Thought it might be noise being between the main road and the highway but road noise was no issue at all. Conveniently located at an entrance to 101 and across the street from a well-stocked grocery store. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is it can be a bit noisy if you like to sleep with your windows open at night, otherwise it's a great location for winter storm watching or summer fun! read more

On March 18th I made reservations for the May 15th weekend. I requested a 2nd floor 2 bedroom suite. I've stayed at this hotel many times. In the 2 bedroom suites there is a fireplace and the living room is on the ocean side. On April 25th (5 weeks later) I received an e-mail telling me I couldnt have the second floor and they were sticking us on the 1st floor. I checked other hotels for openings, but there were none. They obviously waited over a month to do this because they knew we'd be stuck with a first floor "suite" or have to cancel the vacation. 1. There is no fireplace in the 1st floor suite. 2. The bedrooms are on the ocean side, not the living room. 3. The room is located directly behind the office, beside the laundry room and 4' from the ice machine that makes noise constantly. There's also a garbage can by the door. Oh but there's more! The kids got wet playing at the beach, sorry no guest laundry facilities, quote; "you can use the coin laundry in town". 4. Returning from our first outing to the beach the deadbolt would not unlock with the 1975 ancient key that was provided. 5. The manager tried, couldn't get it opened, she called maintenance and I kept fiddling with the DEADBOLT. I repeat, the deadbolt, not the door handle. 6. I got the deadbolt to disengage, we did our thing and left again. Came back, same deadbolt, it unlocked but was still sticky. 7. ... Wait for it. Child locked the DOOR HANDLE from the inside as we exited the room. Whoops, I don't have a key to the door handle so now we're locked outside again. 8. Here it comes... The manager/clerk says "no worries" it doesn't need a key, it unlocks by fingernail! She takes the wrong key and touches it to the door handle lock, not sticking it in as it's the wrong key, and turns it to unlock it. A fingernail is also efficient! 9. It ends up the maintenance person replaced the doorknob, not the deadbolt, and he replaced it with a cheap bathroom door doorknob. 10. There was a huge spider in the corner of the living room. 11. The kids couldn't sit on their balcony because it's only feet from the street. 12. The drapes couldn't be opened because every single person that walked by stared into the rooms. 13. The television in the boys bedroom didn't work. The sound is broken, it's crazy loud, then crazy soft. I'll stop at 13. It's a perfect number for this horrible hotel and the way we were plunked in this substandard back of the closet room for exactly the same price as the rooms upstairs. It was a horror show. I used to love this hotel, but I'll never be back and I suspect I'll get no resolution from management either. We were dumped in that little hell hole of a room. It was an awful experience, there's no way around it. read more

We spent our fourth of July in Lake Oswego at the Lakeshore Inn in Lake Oswego social distancing and looking at the water with the sunset. I looked at their materials in the room and they own several other little inns around Oregon. This is one of those. We decided to try again on our anniversary as we had booked some time in Lincoln City and then it was under a mandatory evacuation order. Fast forward to late September we thought we could look at the beach and remain socially distant. We were successful. This is a charming little place that has most all the conveniences you need within the room. There are some rooms with a full kitchen. We didn't get those but next time, maybe so. We selected a room with a refrigerator and microwave and so we were able to shop at the nearby grocery or nearby restaurants while we were staying there. Very convenient. They allow dogs (we don't have any) but they provide dog towels outside of the front desk, also, beach toys you can borrow, and an assortment of games to borrow as well. We normally bring what we need but it's nice to have the option. This is across the street from the beach so very convenient and across the street the other way from a grocery store. The best of both worlds. We enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the sunset. All in all, I'll definitely return here again. read more

Cute little hotel to stay at when you're spending time at Cannon Beach! I found the hotel on Expedia, and ended up getting one of the suites for $140. A suite includes a mini kitchen, small dining table, living room with television and fireplace, bedroom with a television and fan, and bathroom. Our room also had a nice patio with two chairs looking out towards the beach. P.S. The sunsets from the rooms are AMAZING! We were lucky enough to be able to watch one from our room. Check-in was easy and when we arrive 2.5 hours early, they had a room ready for us. The office has small snacks and movies that you can rent for your room. Everything in our room was fine. Beds were comfy, suite was clean... I think the only warning I have is to watch out for their hot water. It gets HOT. And when I was showering the water randomly would get SUPER freakin' hot... I love my hot showers, but I am a fan of having skin. They also have a pool & hot tub for guests. We didn't go in the pool because screw that, but my boyfriend said it was heated (and it's indoors). The hot tub isn't suuuper hot like most hot tubs at hotels. It was like bath water but I think it's because it's practically outside? Regardless, it was nice and perfect temperature and made it so we didn't overheat too quick. Definitely recommend The Wayside to anybody looking for a room in Cannon Beach! read more

We found this Hotel by chance just driving by after having a bad experience at another Hotel. The location is great it's right across from the beach it has a market next door and a seafood restaurant across the street and a coffee shop not to far from the hotel. The rooms are big and clean and has a refrigerator and microwave. The staff is great and accommodating Andy was so nice and helpful at check in wish was appreciated after the experience at the other hotel. I stayed at this hotel last week due to beach proximity and low price. I was debating with another nearby hotel but chose this one based on cost. I was pleasantly surprised how much my family enjoyed our stay! I checked in with Angie and another lady (didn't see name tag) and they were both so friendly and accommodating. We were able to check-in 30 minutes early. They informed us of places to go and hotel amenities. I didn't realize we could use the beach towels and carts near the parking area. It was very convenient to pack up all the beach toys and kids in the cart. The rooms were clean and spacious. We were on the second floor so we could sort of see the beach from our patio, which was a nice. I like that we reserved a one bedroom apartment with a separate living room area. They had a full kitchen and fireplace. It was convenient to go to the market, restaurant, and coffee shop. I would recommend this location if going to Cannon Beach. read more

We have been coming to this hotel for years! It always a great place to stay. We love that it is dog friendly, it is just outside of town so quiet yet right across the street from the ocean. My experience at the Wayside Inn was the complete opposite of most other reviewers. In July my daughter and I spent two nights in room 104 on the ground floor. The view was of busy traffic on a main road and a large public parking lot across the street. The living/kitchen space was crowded. The old fashioned coffee pot didn't work. The bathroom was so tiny that it was almost impossible to close the door when inside it. The two lamps in the bedroom had dim 20 watt bulbs. A third light in the ceiling fan didn't work. We requested a working light bulb several times and were rudely informed they didn't have one. On the second day they replaced it with another 20 watt bulb. We still had to use flashlights. There was no housekeeping service. When I asked to have trash removed the front desk person gave me a plastic bag and told me if I wanted it removed to do it myself. We were paying $299 per night for the privilege of taking out trash. Originally, I wanted to book a less expensive standard room, but was told a $299 suite was all they could offer. I now wonder if that was really all that was available. The "suite" was worth half the price. The management offered us a $55.00 discount for the darkness of the room, but it did little to remove our dissatisfaction. read more

5 stars because it was incredibly clean and the staff was amazing. For the price we paid we expected much worse accommodations. Pet friendly. The pool and hot tub were nice. I am pretty sure all the rooms have an ocean view with a balcony or a patio that opens to the sea. We are literally right across the street from one of the most amazing Oregon beaches I have ever been to. Miles of clean soft sand and plenty of space to enjoy any activity. Everything in the room was modern and incredibly clean. Our room was small (we were told it was the smallest room onsite) but it had a kitchen and it was well worth the price. I am sure we will try and stay here again next time we come through!!! read more

Love this place!! It was our first time in the Oregon coast, we had no idea where to go and stay. Reading some reviews I was a little unsure about booking this hotel. I started calling around looking online this place was one of the more reasonable prices and also dog friendly. Once I booked it I was still looking for other options. Since it was a weekend most hotels wanted at least a two night stay, we only needed one night because we were headed south the next day. And the wayside inn allow for one night stay. So I kept the reservation and I'm glad I did. The hotel was nice, clean, newly renovated and doggy friendly! We were greeted by a really nice man in a cute reception area. We had a pretty decent size room with a balcony, fireplace, and all the things you would expect from a hotel. I was scared that the rooms would smell like dogs but it was very clean and no sign that dogs have been in the room. My dog had a welcome basket which was super cute, but where was my welcome basket? Lol The beds were very comfy, the only little thing I would maybe say was a negative was the bathroom was a little small but again we only stayed for less than 24 hours so didn't make much of a difference to me. Still love this place. The location it's more south from the main town, I thought this would bother me but actually it was a blessing, being away from then hassle and bustle of the town. It was about a five minute drive to town. The hotel is right across from Tolovana Park / Beach.. Which was perfect. There is a restaurant across the street right on the beach and a pub right beside if you don't want to go into town. We had a great visit in Cannon beach and stayin at Wayside inn made it even better, next time we will differently stay here. read more

A friend mentioned this place last summer so we put it on our list of places to stay if we came to Cannon Beach. Unfortunately, the weather hasn't cooperated but that's why the indoor (saltwater!) pool is a big plus. Had the weather cooperated, it's close to the beach, and has a great little deck that faces the water. I also see that they have wagons and beach toys for guests to use. The room was super clean and perfect for what we needed. We enjoyed the fireplace. Plenty of towels (softest hotel towels I think I've ever had) and the in-shower shampoo, conditioner and body wash were great. We appreciated the cups, coffee supplies and having a fridge and microwave really helps when traveling with 2 kids. There was plenty of storage for coats and our snacks and the table and chairs were nice to use for eating and as a work desk for my husband. We will definitely be back again. Please note this Inn is 3 stories and has no elevator. If this is an issue for you, you might want to discuss a ground level room when you book. read more

They are dog friendly so I brought 2 dogs (maltese and boxer). The staff had prepaired a dog basket and had water dishes. The rooms are very nice and very clean. We enjoyed our stay immensely. This hotel totally deserves five stars. Location: the hotel is located in a quiet area across the street from the beach and a couple of miles south of "downtown." There is a restaurant across the street and a pub next door. Haystack Rock is about a five minute walk up the beach. Room: I think there are only 24 rooms in the hotel and it appears they all have a small deck with a view of the ocean. The room was clean, modern and quiet. It included a gas fireplace, small dining table, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, cable TV and DVD player (they have DVDs available for borrowing in the office). Staff: the folks at the front desk were genuinely friendly and totally customer oriented. They offer you cookies and candy in the office whenever you stop in, and they offer your dog a biscuit. Really nice folks to chat with. Dog Friendly: this is the most dog-friendly business I have been to anywhere. Upon check in, they welcomed our dog like SHE was the customer. In the room there was a basket with towels and sheets . . . for dogs! There was also a set of dog bowls and a welcome dog-biscuit. They have a hose at the side of the hotel for rinsing your dog off after returning from the beach, and there are clean dog towels and a water bowl in front of the office (both of which were always full). There is a dog toilet area, with bags and a garbage can, across from the office. Other: They also have a pool and Jacuzzi. Overall: I cannot imagine a better place for dog-owners to stay. I love this hotel! Switching from the expensive, but equally great, Tolovana Inn it's easy to say the two are some very good hotels. This hotel is slightly updated and entering the room you are not greeted with the unwanted smell of the previous guest. They provide you with free movies and a list to choose from at the front office. Not only that, but they also have a shed in the parking lot filled with beach chairs, towels, and toys to borrow and use! The pool is heated as well so that is always a plus. We absolutely love this place! It's clean, well priced, great location, family and dog friendly and have a great salt pool and hot tub. We come here often for small family trips out of the city and the staff is always so friendly they remember us. They leave treats for our two year old and our dog. Great coffee, tea and snacks in the lobby( granola bars in the am and cookies the rest of the time). Games and movies available to use for free or for a cheap fee. Toys for the pool. There are toys, wagons, chairs, blankets and towels to take to the beach. They also don't mind if you leave your dog in the hotel which is very nice and convenient especially during warm months. A mile or two south of the busy part (so to speak) of Cannon Beach, this is also a block away from the beach. As a result, it's quite a bit cheaper than the places directly on the beach. Very friendly staff, who were very accommodating to our two small dogs. The room was clean and comfortable and quiet and it was a nice place to stay for the night. This hotel is reasonably priced. That's the good. The bad: 1. It is old and in dire need of renovation. The letherette couch is badly tattered, the bathrooms are extremely small, and the bed is so lumpy, that I just couldn't sleep. What's the point of staying on the coast, if you're too tired from sleepless nights to enjoy it? 2. There is WiFi, that's free. Except you get exactly what you pay for, which is connection so slow that even the internet speed test "couldn't reach the server." That's about it. The two stars for price. This is a cute little hotel located at the south end of Cannon Beach. It's further away from the 'downtown' area, but has easy beach access. This place only has about 20-25 rooms, and all of them have ocean views, fireplace, and balcony. They are also super dog friendly. They provide you with towels and sheets for your dog, and food/water bowls. If you forget your crate, they have one available too. They prefer for you to not leave your dog alone in the room(understandably), but ask if you do to crate them. They also have beach towels, blankets, and toys available. There are movies available to rent, or you can rent The Goonies for free. There is an indoor pool and hot tub too. The only downside mostly was the bathroom, which was super tiny. The shower was also slippery, so make sure and use the shower-mat provided. Also all of the plumbing is connected so if someone flushes their toilet while you're in the shower--- prepare for some cold water. Our room was located on the 3rd floor, with no elevator. My dog was NOT happy about the situation. I think it makes more sense to have the dog-friendly rooms on lower levels. I would definitely be back though! This is the only place we will ever stay when visiting Cannon Beach. The price was lower than almost every place we called and they were the only hotel that could accommodate all five of us and our two dogs on the weekend we wanted to visit. The room was clean, had all the vital cooking appliances, pots and pans we needed to cook breakfast for everyone 4 days in a row and make 2 home cooked dinners. They are conveniently located AWAY from town near Mo's. If you stay here, the walk to Haystack rock is still very reasonable and you will not have to contend with as much beach traffic. Right across the street is a nice playground and they have everything you need to have a great day at the beach! They provide you with: Wagons Beach toys beach blankets beach towels (big fluffy ones) dog poo bags lots of puppy treats decent coffee in the office (plus cookies, taffy and breakfast bars) They also have a lovely pool with lots of toys and a hot tub plus more towels! I loved that I never was without something for my little guy to do here. They really have all the bases covered. On top of the wonderful property the staff was all very polite and cleaned our room thoroughly. The icing on the cake was at check out, when the woman at the desk presented my son with a squirting fish toy. He hugged "bubbles" all the way back to Woodburn. It was such a sweet gesture and made him feel so special. Thank you again, we can't wait to come back. read more

This was our second time coming here and again, simply amazing!! The first time was for our 7 year anniversary last year around the end of June. This time we brought our cousins with us as a double date type of thing and they loved this place just as much as we did. The front desk ladies Jill and Carol are the most nicest and helpful people you will ever meet at The Wayside Inn. From prepping your bonfire to breakfast they have all the suggestions that anyone should highly consider because everything they have advised us on was on the money. Try to do things your way and then take their advice on what they suggested I guarantee you will wish you listened the first time they told you about something. So for those of you who are double dating and end up in suite 101. The unit is equipped with almost everything to be able to cook a good dinner at the hotel. Plus they have wagons you can use to haul all your beach gear and bonfire stuff across the street to the beach. Upon leaving on our last day at Canon Beach (which we almost didn't do) I booked my wife and I another weekend to stay here the following month. This is now our go to spot when we go on a weekend get away. Love this place!!! ...and I know you will too, go check them out!! read more

My best friend/roommate, our dog and I just spent the most wonderful weekend in Cannon Beach. We stayed in a one bedroom two queen suite at The Wayside Inn, and I can't recommend this place enough. First, everything was spotlessly clean. The bed and bedding were soooo comfy. There were so many special touches to make the stay comfortable: the mini kitchen equipped with everything you could need. (Dishes, glassware, cookware/utensils, flatware, coffee mugs.) The suite has two full bathrooms with tub/shower, and no tiny little bath toiletries here - each tub has a shampoo/conditioner/shower gel dispenser on the wall. I loved the fan stashed in the wardrobe- that is a really nice touch for someone like me who needs the white noise to sleep! Also the bedroom had a really nice ceiling fan to move the air. We slept like babies. We really also appreciated the doggo basket in the room and just how pet friendly everything is. Too many nice things to mention! Finally, the customer service was really great. I wish I could remember the woman's name who checked us in Friday night, but she was so kind! She even gave us a call in our suite once we were settled to make sure everything was good. Really really nice attention to detail and comfort during your stay. We can't wait to come back. I haven't felt so relaxed in a long time. read more

One of the best, if not the best hotel in all of Cannon Beach. True, they're not close to downtown, but they are close to the main reason for staying in Cannon Beach, which is close access to the beach and proximity to Haystack Rock. Carol was very kind and helpful throughout our stay there. The customer service is extraordinary! We don't own any pets, but knew this was a pet-friendly hotel. With that in mind, we didn't have high expecations, as other hotels we have stayed in that allowed pets were not of the cleanest state. We were blown away by how clean and tidy our room was. The rooms smelled pleasant, no pet hair to be found and everything looked and felt very clean! My compliments to the housekeeping staff as they do an incredible job! This hotel offers several amenities, including a pool, hot tub, beach towels, large wagons to haul everything to the beach, shovels and pails for the kids, and so much more!
