The philosophy of this church and the way in which they embrace everyone who enters is just really neat to see. We came from a huge church, searching for a closer group of folks to do life with and we found it. The teachings are relevant, biblical and man, do they sometimes really hit home. The music is great as well. Led Zeppelin, Mumford and Sons, The Avett Brothers, The National, classic hymns and more.... you really can't go wrong with the genres of music they incorporate into the services. I would love to see people let loose a little bit more but that's my own personal issue and relationship with music - don't judge. The children's church is great and the kids always leave with a verse and a cute project. They have made friends and don't pitch a fit when it's time to go - can I get an Amen?! They have volleyball teams, a wine event to benefit a great ministry, support local schools, do trivia nights and so much more. It has changed immensely, with a new pastor. On the first Sunday I returned, Pastor Marty preached that, "one of his favorite sermons was Jonathan Edwards 'Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God'. You should all look it up." This barbaric 18th century sermon is one of the original fire and brimstone, you're all going to Hell sermons. Just what I didn't need while wrestling with intense guilt in my life. The next few Sunday's he regularly pressured and pan-handled about paying HIM 10% of your income (tithe to the local church). Infact, the whole season of Lent was to be dedicated to just this practice. After a few weeks of this, I was reminded of why I was disgusted with church and struggled with Christianity. Of course, I am never returning to that church. If ever there was someone to put in my life to help me deconvert to atheism, Pastor Marty Sloan would be that guy.

I like Holy Angels because the priests are wise and caring, and the chuch overall has a deep committment to charity and serving the community. They hold mass in English or Spanish. They just hosted a spaghetti dinner to benefit a friend, a young guy with cancer who can't work while he recovers from surgery and has chemo, and I was blown away by the support.

The people are friendly and loving, Pastor Spencer is a true Saint, you can really tells that he fears and loves our lord. (Jesus Christ), Also he preaches the truth and his sermons always match up with the bible, Today we have a lot of false teachers in our churches who will only tell you things you want to hear. ( Wolves in Sheep's clothing) But pastor Spencer stands by God (Jehovah) and teaches his word, which is the truth and the way to life. The most important thing you want to make sure your church has is a HONEST Preacher! Pastor Spencer is not only honest but funny, he is literally HILARIOUS and easy to like. The church is small but this provides a comfortable welcoming environment. I recently got baptized 5/3/15 and I loved my mentor Sara who is a sweet old lady who helped walked me through the whole process and made me feel comfortable! During my baptism people were encouraging and cheering me on and the whole experience was just humbling! I can't imagine a better place to have gotten baptized. Not to mention the praise music is AMAZING!! Main has a very talented choir!! The only few "cons" to this church is 1: They have Ushers that pick your seat for you, which can be a little annoying at times because at church I would like to sit where I'm most comfortable. 2: If your looking for a more diverse church main is probably not for you. Don't get me wrong the people are friendly no matter the race but this church is predominantly Black, so if you're into more diversity I would keep searching.
