I love this place! I met the owner manager and what a great attitude. There was one experience though. I love the decor. The lighting is very flattering so be sure to take a date here. If you're a 5, the lighting will def push you up a few points to a 7, and after a few whiskeys, you'll be pushing 8-9 on the hotness scale. When my old fashioned came out, I was a little skeptical because it had 3 small ice cubes swimming in the whiskey. After the first sip, all was forgiven. It's not as dark-and-sexy as you might think from the name and a few of the photos, but it's not a hoppin' college bar scene either. No, it's a nice spot, not too crazy loud, where you can sip some fine distilled spirits. The back bar was closed for a private event. But that looked to be a whole other area and perhaps the vibe gets a little more backroom. We sat up by the front window, at a little table for three, and enjoyed good convo. Bonus for the whiskey flights, but you might want to grab something else off the menu. Not the first time visiting The Whiskey, but the first time reviewing. Outstanding whiskey bar with an incredible selection. The flights are well priced for the novices and those more experienced looking to explore. I had the Japanese flight simply because I have very little experience with them, and ended up finding one of the better ones the next day at Wilburs to take home. My wife had one of the scotch flights and was very pleased as well. Great selection within the flights from lower end whiskeys to some really nice selections in the $100 range. The barkeep was fantastic - very attentive and knowledgeable - and set us up with some recommendations after our flights which proved to perfect for our palates. Lucas was absolutely amazing. We walked in with three kiddos and luckily it was late afternoon on a Sunday. My wife found this restaurant and being a whiskey enthusiast, I was excited to try the magical unicorn that is Pappy. Lucas was extremely patient and kind and educated us on the many different whiskeys they have to offer. They have some of the rarest whiskeys out there and the sticker shock may surprise someone who isn't into whiskey. I felt the prices were I. line and fair being that you can't just go find these bottles anywhere. We went with a flight that comes with the perfect palette cleanser. This bar is such a safe haven. The bartender Benjamin noticed my date making me uncomfortable and covertly checked in to see if I needed to leave. It was so nice to feel safe and supported. Honestly, this place has potential to be great but when we went on a Sunday night, it sucked. The drinks were yummy but the service sucked. It took forever to order, forever to get our drink, forever to reorder...you get the picture. Our waiters voice was gone and the people sitting near him when he took orders said they felt like he was sick and would lean away. They also said his breath was horrible. Time and time again we would hear "the food and drinks are dying!"..meaning...our drinks and food were just sitting on the bar getting cold and hanging out. Cuba Libre was delicious (Whiskey/Mexican Coke) and they give you what's left in the coke bottle to drink. Loaded fries were cold when they came out but were ok. Fried pickles also had jalapeños in them. Okay, a bit too greasy for my taste, and the jalapeño calamari was bomb. Def get the calamari if any of the apps. The booth seats are comfy but me being 5'4" I can not reach the foot resting bar so my legs constantly felt discomfort and even fell asleep! The bartender behind the bar was hustling and making up for the lacking server abilities. When it came to pay, we basically had to hunt down our heck and when he offered to split it we said of course! Too bad when the checks came out they were all wrong. So frustrating. She proceeded to come back with it while handing it back she stated the manager is looking to try this now. This was my first time in The Whiskey but I guarantee it won't be my last. By far one of the best whiskey selections of any bar I've been to. My personal preference is bourbon and they did not disappoint. The huge selection was impressive, but even more so was the knowledge and helpfulness of the staff. Chase took care of us that evening and was great in recommending bourbons I had never tried based on ones I already knew I liked. It was a great evening and I can't wait to get back again! I really feel horrible about giving any negative review. However, tonight was one of those experiences that gives me no choice. The bartender began the evening by insulting us from the start about our whiskey selections and cocktail choices. He questioned our knowledge, which I don't even care about and don't claim to be any kind of expert, but I couldn't believe the arrogance he insisted to press upon us. This really was an experience that offended us and many of the people we were with. I believe this place has so much potential, but is hindered by this bartender and his scary and cocky attitude. I, and my colleagues, work in the industry and this was appalling on so many levels. This guy isn't doing this place any favors and with so many great choices in Fort Collins, I don't understand why anyone would come here now. My wife and I had a rare evening off together and decided to try a new place. Positive yelp reviews are usually how I make a choice. We were happy to find this place. The whiskey is housed in a slender building on the south side old town. Easy to park and walk to on a Wednesday evening. We waited a while at what looked like a host stand, but eventually just went and took a booth. It was close to the end of happy hour so we got cocktails and cheese bread. All was very good. They were out of mint so no mint julep for my wife but the bartender mixed up something else that she enjoyed. My old fashioned was delicious. Meals came out quickly and were quite tasty. The side salads came with a ton of veggies with no upcharge. I had to go to the bar to get him to ring us up. Maybe they could've used one more employee tonight? All said and done, we will back. I know all of these other reviews are stellar, but a majority of them touch on the ambiance of the place and the drinks -- which are great. But I'm leaving this here more so regarding the customer service. Every time we come here we end up leaving disappointed because of how rude the servers are. Ponytail bartender- super great. Door dude with nice shoes, rad. But there was a dude with a fro who was insanely rude. I was holding a menu and he literally reached behind me and grabbed it out of my hands and said "don't bend the menus." GRABBED IT OUT OF MY HANDS as if I were a child. Also, the time we were there before, my girlfriend was laughed at and made fun of by another socially awkward server who then felt bad about making fun of her whiskey order and comped her drink. Whiskey snobs! Idk what this place has in mind for their hiring processes but honestly BE BETTER. This was the second and most likely last time I'll come. I'd probably have a better experience grabbing a drink from the liquor store next door. Better than being around these jerks of servers. Came here after stopping at a few dive bars in the area. This was a much needed deprive. Great atmosphere. We snagged a booth and it fit 5 people comfortably. The layout of the bar even made it easy for us to communicate without yelling. The boys ordered some interesting and rare whiskeys and we also ordered the calamari and fried mushrooms. Wow the food was actually so tasty and I was pleasantly surprised. The boys decided to order another round of whiskey but after 15 minutes or so of waiting they decided to try the bartender for the drinks. They came back with their drinks and then there was the waitress with more drinks. Apparently there had been some miscommunication with the bartender and she said the new drinks were on the House. Bait & Switch is never a good start ! ~~~ Tonight Oct 24th, 2014, It's Friday night in College town Fort Collins, Colorado. The Whiskey is a restaurant and Lounge billed as Up Scale. I knew we were in trouble when we met a bouncer checking I.D at the door. Not a good sign, classy! At the front door was a sign pushing the special of the day, tonight a Steak Burger. HMmm, that sounds good, I've been craving a burger all night. SOLD! Now at our table we were informed there was no special, order off the menu, and I did! Tonight's meal came out slow, real slow! We were informed while there was plenty of alcohol to be had, there was nothing in the restaurant non-carbonated or alcohol free. The wife drank, but I needed to drive home, so I had to drink water. Oh, it get's better, when I asked for Catsup and Mustard with my meal, the restaurant served the mustard in plastic packets like at McDonalds, and we had no silverware or napkins either. I ran to the men's room for paper towels. Were talking classy, Oh Yeah! Our waitress, well she explained everyone is here to party, this is a drinkin bar. I think she had a point, I would call it a Meat-Market Bar. The purpose of "The Whiskey" is to pick-up women and that's about it. I would not call this a restaurant, because it's not! This is a bar, next door to another bar, that is next door to another bar. If you're over 35 move on, this isn't really a high-end lounge, it's a pick-up joint with burgers. Oh, one more thing. I had a great experience here! I went for a friend's birthday and sat at a large table by the front window. The manager came out and bought a round of shots for the table (about 12 of us), which I thought was so sweet! We all had at least 1 drink and a full meal. Absolutely favorite Fort Collins steakhouse. The steaks are out of this world. They also make a delicious drink called "Peach Please". So so good!!
