The prices on many stock items are much lower than other grocery stores in town, but they probably won't have every item on your shopping list and have somewhat inconsistent stock -- especially if you're looking for "higher end" goods or organics. Still, Food Basics is true to its name, so there's something to be said for that.

It was my turn, but just before the teller did anything, a staff came in and opened the cash drawer and started counting. The teller turned to me and said that 'this' (whatever 'this' is) has to be done first. This time I waited and when the staff finished, I was served.

Instead, she just threw the receipt on the belt without looking at me. Unfortunately, those customers happened to be Caucasian. I guess she prefers to deal with Caucasian customers rather than Asian. Funny that she was Indian herself. I don't know how to explain this. Self hate? I never imagined having to play a race card on Yelp but today I have to. I should have gone to Walmart in the first place. The staff there has always been helpful and friendly to me. I guess if you like racist staff you can come here. Clearly, this is an Asian grocery store. It's not where you would go to get regular, every day western sundries. I bought some oolong tea, some kimchi, a beautiful, ripe, delicious papaya, some frozen jackfruit, and avocado, a jar of fermented, spicy bean curd. I wish there was a place like this in my neighborhood. Oh! There was a ton of beautiful, beautiful, looking fresh fish, a tank, full of shellfish, a ton of spicy, funky, sauces, and every kind of exotic Asian item you could ever look for. They're super nice. So today was my first shopping trip since Covid precautions were put in place…read more Shoppers are bringing in their own bags. There is no hand sanitizer or wiping down of carts. All aisles are free range and two way. The only 2 meter spaces are at the cash register. Shoppers were self distancing while in line. Folks still not practicing common sense. When packing my groceries, I was 2-3 feet from the person who had gone through the same cashier. They need to step up the safety measures. I can say the shelves were mostly well stocked.

This is the local Sobeys near where I live. The location is great for convenience and there is…read morecertainly ample parking available. The store is clean and well laid out, and there are times where I will take a quick run in to buy an on-sale item. I do also love the seafood department here, there is good selection and quality, especially compared to the discount supermarkets. However, Sobey's really misses here on the pricing. The meat prices here are often a good 25% higher than the comparable stores, sometimes even more. Frankly there are higher prices on almost everything in the store, and when you can go down the road to Freshco and purchase the same items for less, it makes me less likely to shop there. Which leads to the next issue: this store is smaller than some of the other Sobeys stores in the area (the Ira Needles one that is about 10 minutes away) and as a result the selection and quantity of items suffers. It's not unusual if there are sale items for this store to run out faster that other Sobeys stores in the area. Overall, it's not a bad store, I just wish that it would be better, it would save me the drive to shop elsewhere.

I ordered alot of groceries for next day delivery to my daughter in Waterloo. Received the confirmation email immediately, as well as a second confirmation email several hours later. The next day, my daughter waited and waited but the order never arrived. 3 hours after the delivery window closed, I received an email that the whole order had been cancelled. Obviously very disappointed that this order was confirmed twice then never delivered, leaving us waiting for many hours, unable to leave, with no groceries/food to eat. I live in Toronto and order groceries online often, but will never use Sobey's again.
