After visiting Colonial Williamsburg, I took my parents to a local nostalgic place called Williamsburg General Store, it's a family owned shop that was filled with snit snat items, apparels, variety of sweet treats, flags, retro toys, hot sauces, specialty soaps, jellies, plush animals and much much more. Also they have a homemade ice cream cafe in the rear of the store called Bigfoot's Ice Cream Shack (formerly Bubba's). All ice cream is made in house with unique flavors such as strawberry cheesecake, pistachio almond, peachy peach, southern blackberry cobbler, orange swirl and many more. There's option from cups, waffle cones, shakes and sundaes. I try their southern blackberry cobbler, peachy peach and salted caramel brownie. They all have their own unique flavors but the blackberry cobbler was creamy, smooth and delicious. All their staff are amazingly friendly, knowledgeable and patient. If I am ever in the area again, I will definitely make another visit to get some gifts since holidays are approaching and can't leave until I try other flavors of their homemade treats. Needing gifts for my father's brother and sister, I visited the general store to buy some canned foods. In addition to the typical assortment of jams, they had canned peaches, beets, and applesauce. If you bought two, you received a discount. The staff were so helpful and patient in taking off the price tags and wrapping them in packing paper for me. I'm glad to know I can find these goods at the general store alongside Simply Southern clothes and other gifts from the area. read more

I did not come here for the ice cream, as so many seem to have done. I came here to browse the items to see if I could find some gifts to take back home with me. I will say that they are not short on any amount of gifts. They have every and anything that you can think of if you are thinking of souvenirs. From shirts to decorative flags. It can take some time to look through everything they have. I browsed a bit and took my time going through the flags as I was hoping to find one that I could use at an upcoming holiday. I ended up waiting to buy anything here. The reason being I was able to find some things, but not all things I wanted. I was hoping to find all things so I didn't need to stop elsewhere. We stopped by looking for postcards. The amount of stuff in the store overwhelmed us. We noticed a lot of nostalgic toys, candies, and trinkets. A large amount of oddities and gag gifts to be had for impulse buyers. The bombardment of shelves, stands, and racks in the store left little room to move around, especially with families who had kids running and playing in the store. We left with 2 postcards. This place has all the fun of traditional tourist trap type of stuff, there is though lots to buy, however I didn't think the prices were very good here. Not a place you need to hit but if you are killing time or need a place to get a bunch of trinkets, this will work Verdict: Go for the ice cream (not to lemon ice one though) and hang out for a good while to shop and just hang out. It was a souvenir shop/tourist trap like you were expecting. Very nice stuff inside. We walked out with 3 different Christmas presents. The ice cream was yummy and the people were nice. They have the coolest stuff that takes you at leas an half hour to walk through. My husband has ADD and just kept wandering off to see the next colorful thing around the corner. About the mom who said they were rude to her 3 year old for touching stuff, 3 year olds don't need to be walking around in there. There were boxes and bins of toys and stuff that says "Williamsburg" on it, from floor to ceiling. They had cute lil glass animals, the size of nickels, on a counter. They had squishy toys and noise makers on the shelves. So someone small enough to grab random stuff and either 1. Walk away and lose/break it or 2. Stuck stuff in their mouths should not be walking around. We will be back again for ice cream read more

Just a heads up that this place is very busy and there's a lot of traffic going in and out of the store since there's an ice cream shop in the back. That is what this review is for; Bubbas Ice Cream. It was really your average ice cream. Nothing special. The plain waffle cone I had was a bit stale. The overall price was a bit too expensive for what we received. This is a mixed review. I enjoyed walking through the general store. It had a huge variety of items. I got some great little souvenirs to take home. They had a variety of decor items and shirts, etc. Now onto the disappointment. I wanted to leave a review just for Bubba's ice cream but apparently I can't. The ice cream was average hard serve, nothing to write home about but nothing to complain about either. The service on the other hand was ridiculous. After taking our first order, the girl helping us rudely told us we were reversing the order of the line. Ok, our mistake but say that first in a polite manner and we will move down. It was then awkward because she started making the milkshake and we had moved to the correct location but still needed to order more items. There were so many people who were standing around trying to figure out how to order. I stood in the correct spot and no one ever took my order until I walked to the middle of the counter. I heard the employees chastise two other families about "reversing the line" before we paid and left. Outside eating our ice cream, you could hear people mumbling about the service as they walked out of the store. If you like nostalgic signs, political items and a huge hodgepodge of other things definitely stop and take a few minutes to walk through the store. DO NOT GET ICE CREAM unless you want to be spoken to like a moron. read more

I took my grandkids there to get an ice cream and while being served a boy that works there told me that the kids are required to wear a face covering. I decided to give him a tip, I told him that masks aren't required for 2-9year olds but recommend. I then mentioned to another employee that the boy in the back was misinformed. When we walked in the store there were two women, Jean and Natalie, standing around the register talking. They did greet us when we came in. My elderly mother turned a corner and tripped over boxes. She was told to be careful and my mother commented that the boxes were in the middle of the floor. Jean replied they were trying to stock the shelves. No apology or even tried to move the boxes The two women then proceeded to stand around and talk about people why we shopped around the store. Not acknowledging us any further. It must've been the manager who came in the store and then they couldn't be nice enough to him. He was the only one who reached out and asked if we needed help with anything or if I wanted to leave my goods on the counter why I continued to shop. We went to this establishment during our visit last year without any problems. This year the help was so rude. The ice cream section was standing room only. Apparently we were in this females way with her collection of empty hangers she snipped " I'm going that way" as we tried to guess how we could take up less space. Then she was there at the register trying to pull a fast one. I got two shirts from a rack BOGO priced $24.99 and two from a completely different rack @ $29.99. Well she charged me for both of the $29.99 and gave me the two $24.99 as free. Then she tried to claim that the register rings it up that way. Needless to say I let the register be used to remove the purchase and credit my card. As she was doing this I was being told to NEVER return to the store again. Not only will that not be a problem, I won't spend my money in any Wallace owned establishment. She was self- proclaimed as the person in charge that day. I sent an email to the owners and have had no response in four days. Apparently, they don't see a problem with attempting to swindle their customers and then treat them rudely when they stand up for themselves. read more

When I think of a general store, I expect penny candy, old time toys made out of iron, and lots of weaving aisles of fun antiques, Coca Cola products, and historical books. This general store is a bit more touristy than that. They have their share of tin signs, but they lack the character of typical general stores, and are much more of a souvenir shop. I am a local here in Williamsburg and ran into to get some peanuts to use as gifts. I came in right as they opened at 10. When I went up to the counter the sales lady was eating her breakfast as I asked to leave my peanuts at the counter. She obliged and continued eating. When I went to pay she was engaged in chatter about her dog with a coworker. Don't worry ladies I'm good and will have a nice day, however I sure hope you don't treat the tourist that way. General store may be nice, never got a chance to look, we went in for Ice Cream first to Bubba's Ice Cream shack in the back. I don't know if they are owned by the same people or not, so this review pertains only to Bubba's...I took my daughters in and both immediately new the flavor of ice cream they wanted, but hadn't yet decided on their toppings...my youngest daughter wanted whipped cream and sprinkles but before we could tell the girl getting the ice cream she was handing me.the cup of ice cream....I told her she wanted whipped cream and sprinkles on it...and she said she couldn't do it because she already handed it over the counter...mind you someone else was getting my other daughters order so im trying to help both of my little ones get their order in....kinda like going to McDonald's and asking for your nuggets at one register and fries at another. Stupid. Well the little kid got an attitude with me when I asked for my daughters icecream to be fixed right and told me I should just trash it...well its not my responsibility to throw their ice cream away...I hadn't even paid for it yet....so instead my daughter got what the little girl felt like giving my daughter to eat instead of what she was trying to order. All they do there is try to rush you through their line for some mediocre Eddy's brand ice cream and try and charge 3 times the price for something you can get at the grocery store for a whole carton for. Got to Virginia and was excited to see some political stuff in the local gift shop. Was sad to see the bias on the selection of material. For instance there was a line of presidential dolls and bobble heads and sure enough there was one for everyone including Hillary Clinton but yet none for the President Elect, Donald J. Trump. The staff on the general store side were very sweet...but then you get to the ice cream shop. I saw 3 workers in the ice cream shop. A woman cleaning in the back, a woman running the register, and a sweet boy making the ice cream. They apparently aren't supposed to serve milkshakes after 9:30 and it was 10. My dad and brother asked for milkshakes and the boy started making them. The girl got very annoyed and rude to not only her fellow employee, but also her customers (my family and I). The boy left early and she talked trash about him behind his back loud enough for us to hear. The ice cream is also very overpriced. Back in my hometown you can get half a gallon of Eddy's ice cream for $4.00 at Dollar General. read more
