They say the salsa is made fresh daily but it was pretty bland. -jerk chicken bowl was great -pork bbq bowl was great -fish bowl was good also View is incredibly. It was kind of silly that they charge you for parking when you are also buying food but at least it was only $5 Drinks were very small but at normal prices. Not strong. We got here an hour before sunset and I thought it might be hard to find a table, but somehow we got one of the best tables for seeing sunset. You find an open table and seat yourself. My wife and I had a delicious dinner with a stunning sunset view, and live, laid back, music. We shared the loaded sweet plantains, smoked pork shoulder bowl, and the beach bowl. I really enjoyed how veggie forward the meal was. It was a nice blend of flavorful and nutritious. We enjoyed this enough our first time that we came back in March 2026 on a Tuesday. It was bad enough that we probably won't return. This time it was so crowded that we were directed to a second parking lot in back. There was nowhere to sit in the building itself and we were fortunate to squeeze in with a family at one of the picnic tables (this was at 5 pm.) They had been waiting for their food for an hour at that point. It took almost an hour and a half to get our food (two people) and one drink (spouse ordered mixed drink which was again really watered down due to melted ice) and the family we were with never received their order and finally just left. We made it into the Windmill Bar on recent vacation to Saint John. I'm going to provide this review on our second trip in (on our first trip the kitchen was only serving appetizers - due to a repair issue / staff was great in explaining the issue -- drinks were great and the buffalo chicken dip was good). On our second trip the kitchen was fully open. My wife opted for the steamed peel and eat shrimp ... they were large, hot and well seasoned. I had a burger ... again, very good. The staff was outstanding and quick to take orders / deliver drinks. The true drawl here is the view -- simply astonishing !!!! A must stop on the island even if just to take pictures. read more

Underwhelming, very touristy experience. We went to catch sunset, have drinks, and eat dinner. We arrived about an hour before sunset. The bar was fairly quiet. Its in the middle of nowhere so there's plenty of space to handle parking. Yet they annoyingly charge $5 to park...the parking attendant pointed to an open spot in the open area near the bar, surrounded by fields of open space. Once we'd parked, the attendant told us we owed $5. There are no alternative places to park. If you don't want to pay for parking, you'll have to walk from the main road...about a 15 minute jaunt. Felt like simple straight forward fleecing of patrons. When we walked into the bar, we were greeted and seated quickly by a very friendly waitress. We ordered drinks then relaxed listening to the music, sipping our tropical beverage. Unfortunately the drinks were not great. Eventually we ordered food which came out surprisingly quickly. It tasted fine, but definitely not great. About 15 minutes before sunset the place suddenly filled to the gills...tourists covered every inch of the place. Then just as quickly, once the sun was down they disappeared. By the time we left the place was quiet again. In the end our experience was fine but not really worth a second visit. The staff were attentive and friendly. But the drinks were disappointing, food just ok, and the parking fee super annoying. The view was nice, but there are a lot of great places to see sunset on the island. This place was way too touristy and gimmicky for us. read more

First and foremost, you're coming here for the view. No one has a better sunset view on this island. Yes you have to pay the landlord $5 to park your car there. It's stupid, but the Windmill can't help that because they don't own the land. The food is good. We had some burgers and some Mahi sandwiches. The chips are very good. I visited Windmill Café in St. John honestly for the view, and it did not disappoint. For the past three years, I've had their live webcam on loop in my office, so I knew I had to see it in person--and it was absolutely worth it. You can tell the bar has been here for a while, but the staff does an excellent job maintaining it and keeping everything clean and organized. Although I didn't have any food, the bartender made a great rum punch and was very friendly. When you are staying on or near St John VI, this is a must do. It is a quick ferry ride from St Thomas VI, then about a $9 cab ride pp. The ride up the hill is a bunch of switch backs so be prepared (like a roller coaster) but is so worth it. The decks and bar sits high up on a cliff and includes the ruins of a windmill and stone structures. The view alone is amazing, add the cold beers, full liquor and food being served by Charlotte and Emily makes it all a winning combination. Enjoy! read more

And it is generally what you'd expect from a tourist trap - overpriced, so-so food, small drinks, etc. But we had a great time! The view is spectacular. The atmosphere is friendly and lively. I like their system of putting up the flag on your table when you want something. The food, while nothing to write home about, wasn't bad. We got the buffalo chicken dip app, which for $18 was small, but it was tasty. As was the Windmill burger. The only disappointment was the chicken burrito bowl. It just didn't have much flavor. Other than the 5 star view I'm not sure what all these reviews are based on. Bartenders are rude and unfriendly. Everything feels sticky and never cleaned. Hot dog and burger were not good, no fries just chips. Didn't even get condiments or enough napkins. By the way if you are taking a taxi be prepared to wait. There are phone numbers listed on a pole near the bar. Unfortunately it took 6 calls to 3 different numbers before someone finally answered. They also charge 5 bucks to park. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The food is standard bar food. The burger was excellent. The rice bowl we got with chicken was so-so. The Pain Killer in the take home rubber cup is fun. Expect to pay island prices. The bill for four was $220 including tip. The most impressive thing about this place is the sunset view. You MUST go for sunset.
