Everyone who works here is awesome and knowledgeable! They remember you by name if you go there enough and carry a pretty good selection. Anything they do not have you can usually order directly from them. The gaming area upstairs is a great place for both wargaming and ttrpgs with terrain and around six tables altogether. This is a really cool place for board game lovers and for table top RPG fans! They have a massive selection of board games, card games, you name it; and they get new stuff in all the time. Following them on Facebook, you'll see when they announce new games and new add on card packs to stay current in your gaming adventures. I go for the table top RPG selection. They have the newest player handbooks, adventures, and a wide array of miniatures. But I also love that they do buy and trade in some retro game modules so you can find classic games that you love, but which are now out of print. They host group gaming nights almost every day of the week that people can sign up for and check out if they are curious about a system or joining league play. They also host special events throughout the year, celebrating Free RPG Day, International Table Top Day, and even special events that raise money for the Extra Life charity organization. read more

We are a nomadic family and while in Asheville for a few months we were fortunate to be told about this awesome store. My son attended the Spring Break D&D camp and had so much fun. We asked the DM if he'd host a small gathering for my sons birthday and The Wyvern hosted it upstairs and made us feel so comfortable here. I highly recommend this place for all ages. read more

When I moved here in mid 2011, the first thing I did was scope out all the gaming stores in town. While there were a few and all were decent, I never really found myself frequenting any of them. Then came The Wyvern's Tale. Hands down the best selection, staff, and service of any FLGS I've ever had the pleasure of calling "my game store." The space is great, with a huge selection of board games, card games, miniatures games and accessories, and a good selection of popular role playing games and supporting materials. If they don't have something, they will happily order it for you and notify you when it arrives. Better even than the retail space is the amount and quality of the play space offered. The entire upstairs of the shop is gaming space, with tables for board and role playing games and high top terrain tables for all your miniatures battles. They have regular weekly events and also hold special events and tournaments fairly often. In short, this is the shop I go to in town. Period. One tip (not a negative, just a fact): parking is mostly behind the shop and is limited due to their location, but if you go one drive further on the same side of Merrimon their next door neighbors allow overflow parking for the shop. read more

Stopped in from out of town. The store was small and dingy, and the employee was exceptionally rude and elitist. He wasn't s good representative of the community at large, and we left disappointed without purchasing from their very limited stocks--though not before receiving a couple of boring lectures. The Wyvern's Tale is a new RPG and boardgaming store near downtown Asheville. The space is clean, well-lit, and neatly organized. Their staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Their stock is great, with dozens upon dozens of the strategy boardgames. Additionally, they stock a number of RPG books/systems/modules, as well as miniatures, HeroClix-type games, and toys. And if they don't have it in stock, they're more than willing to find it and order you a copy. This store is great. Back in May 2016, I visited this store the same day I left another local gaming store (from which I bought nothing and will never visit again). As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a friendly man in a bow tie (sorry I don't remember his name!). I asked about several items I was looking for. He knew exactly what I was asking about (they were rather esoteric old-school D&D modules, so this surprised me that he knew), and immediately walked me to the proper areas to search. When I wasn't able to find the specific D&D module I wanted, he went to the back and brought out another massive box that they hadn't prepared for selling yet, but he was happy to let me look through. I visited the upstairs gaming room and everyone was very friendly. After spending about an hour just hanging around and looking through awesome merchandise, I left that day with two D&D modules, a magazine, some new dice, and a board game. I felt anxious as I drove over here the first time...immediately after hearing about its existence. What I found inside was truly wonderful. The staf and patrons are very friendly and interesting. I now make the drive to Asheville a bit more often, just to stop over here. You must add The Wyvern's Tale to your itinerary if you enjoy any of the following: board games, card games, role playing games or decorating miniatures. They carry board/card games such as Munchkin, Gloom, Ticket to Ride (all versions), Settlers of Catan, Castle Ravenloft, Descent, Netrunner, Firefly, and even old school clue and other vintage games. They carry pre painted miniatures, blank Reaper minis, and a variety of paints. Staff member, Michael is good resource for painting advice. Kent, the owner is fond of grass roots gaming support, and recently bought in as an Ultimate Retailer with Monte Cook's Nuemenera Kickstarter project. Wyver's Tale hosts a pathfinder society, board game night, Dnd testing, War HAmmer, and so much more. They also have a small Keurig brewer, so feel free to BYOK-cups. There is also a balanced ratio of females to males in most gaming groups. I think this is due to the shop's comfortable and fun atmosphere. You don't have to be a genius or an uber geek to enjoy this shop, as they are welcoming to everyone. I highly recommend The Wyvern's Tale for all your gaming needs. read more

Great little game store in Asheville. They carry board games, war games, and role playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons. Prices are reasonable and the staff is super helpful. They have a game lounge upstairs for getting together with a group. I particularly liked their used book section which was well stocked with old editions of D&D classics. read more

I stopped in for the first time to Wyvern's Tale about a month ago after reading lots of good things about them online, and hearing good things through word of mouth. I own a business that, while not a game store, does carry a small variety of role-playing card, and other types of games, so I was just curious how the dedicated game stores were doing things. The people here were very friendly, and the store is set up very well. Right before I stopped here I'd been to a competitor's store, which felt kind of drab and lifeless by comparison. If I were looking for a place to do some tabletop gaming, this is exactly where I would go. I hope they do well for a long time to come, I could tell the people working here really have a passion for what they sell, and that really does make all the difference. read more

The downstairs has an excellent selection of games, including board games and RPGs and card games and mini games, as well as helpful staff who are happy to help you find what you're looking for or order if it they don't have it in stock.
