Such a lovely little bar nestled into the bustling Public Market. I've often seen others grab some food to-go from different vendors and bring it to Thief to enjoy with their wine. In my case, I just stopped by myself for a brief visit and glass of vino. I enjoyed their sauv blend! It was nice and smooth, not at all on the sweet side which I appreciate too. About last night. Attended the 2023 spring tasting and the pics posted are now a few of my favorite wines. There were 15 tasting tables manned with wine experts available to provide you with the background on the wines as well as the wineries. The event cost was $95 and the wines provided price range was $15-$70 with a discount for wines purchased at the event. I've always loved Thief Wine and this location is on point. We popped in on a Friday evening and perused the Public market. Grabbed some desserts from C. So sat down lovely lady greeted me gave me a run down of the new menu changes etc. So as see was preparing my wine and having a little chat with me the owner came running over to interrupt our little chat to tell her that she needs to watch the floor. That's not problem but It was the way he did it, came off kinda judge mental/ bs. It was only 2 People around and she was on point of taking care of everyone that I saw. I would give less stars if possible. A friend of mine came for a glass of wine after work. The pour was supposed to be 5 oz. The pour looked very skimpy. My friends was measurably less. When we said something the manager said they were both 5oz. pours. A couple of gentlemen came to the bar and as the manager was pouring their wine he covered it with his hand thinking we couldn't see it. The glasses were filled almost all of the way up. We were both angry and said something to him. He said he over poured them. The bartender added some to both of our drinks. As we left the manager kept staring at us. I stopped in the market for a sandwich at another place and didn't want to go all the way upstairs to sit down, and I saw the amazing seating at Theif Wine and the sign that said if you order wine there you could sit at their tables with food from other vendors, so that's exactly what I did! After asking the bartender if they accept Apple Pay, which they do, which is amazing because not everyone does! I ordered a carafe of wine and split it with another guest, and it was honestly much less than I expected. I've ordered wine before in public areas and it can get really pricey, but it was $15 for a carafe where I had two glasses and my guest had almost three! And it was nice wine! It actually went very, very well with our lunch. Afterwards I perused the bargain bin of reds, and another employee asked if I was looking for something in specific, and she helped me find a really marvelous red that's sweet, but not so sweet that after one glass you feel like you've been drinking sugar and you can't have another, because that's too much! This one is just right, and?? It was TEN DOLLARS, y'all!! I was shocked when I opened it at how good it was. Next time I'm back in Milwaukee I'm definitely coming back here for more wine! After walking by this spot for years, we finally sat down to have ourselves a drink before a dinner reservation. The location is hard to beat -- smack dab in the middle of the Milwaukee Public Market. Because of this, it is usually pretty busy, but we surprisingly snagged two spots on a Saturday evening. Service is quick and attentive. I wouldn't say it's overly friendly, but maybe the busy environment gets to them on the weekends! Wine is all across the board in terms of price, which is good. When heaven and wine meet they combine to make Thief Wine Shop & Bar! The teenager was out of town for the week so hubby and I went to all the places he would wine (get it??) about going! I had the full bodied white flight and hubby had a glass of Fog Theory (Pinot Noir). I loved the flight they were all flavorful and I loved that they told me all about each wine. Hubby had the pick of the day with the Fog Theory 2013 Pinot Noir, we actually ended up buying a couple bottles. **This review is for a wine tasting event! I bought tickets online (Thief Wine website links you to EventBrite for ticket sales) for a "Sparkling Wine Around the World" tasting. Coming from a girl who used to work in a winery in California, I had high expectations. And Thief Wine blew them out of the water! I had purchased tickets for the 6pm seating and around noon the day of I called to try and push to the 7:30pm seating. The woman I spoke with on the phone (I believe Sarah) was immensely helpful and was able to switch my reservation. We arrived a few minutes late and half the tasting bar had been reserved for the event while the other was open to the public. Each seat was set with a wine glass, water glass, plain crackers, tasting notes and an information/history packet on the wines we were tasting. The event was advertised as 6 tastings, however we were set up with 7 sparklers to try. Chris was our server and an absolute wealth of knowledge. He was funny and charismatic and didn't take his job too seriously or come off as snobby (common in the industry). I'm not rating Thief Wine on the wines we tried as that's such a subjective rating, but on the experience we had. We had such a blast and now my boyfriend wants to do a tasting every other week! I've now sat + sipped at the bar proper at MKE Public Market's Thief location, and I can say with perfect confidence that working (while enjoying a glass of AIX rosé) from this bar might just be one of the best ways one can work. Also: the gentleman in the argyle sweater behind the bar remembered me AND remembered that I had signed up for their rewards program many moons ago, at their Shorewood location, no less. The specifics are escaping me but, If you're a wine drinker like me, any loyalty wine program is worth it :) And they are really good with asking every time when you check out. Once you spend enough you get a credit. Yay! Money towards wine (that you'd spend anyway!). I especially like to check out the under $10 wine cart at the front of the store area. Thief has really grown on me. They don't have the biggest selection in the city, but it's remarkably well chosen. Looking for a hard to find French Cremant? They have it. A Spanish dry rose? Done. A table of really decent wine for less than $10 a bottle? Oh yeah. Beringer White Zin? Hell no - but I'm sure they would politely steer you to something else. Since they are in the Public Market, it's easy to stop on the way home or to grab a bottle to pair with all the tasty items you just bought. In downtown Milwaukee, most of the places you will find that sell bottles of wine are liquor stores, and your selection of wine will most likely include a lot of Barefoot wines and Yellow Tail. If you're looking for something more mid to upper range quality, Thief Wine is a great choice. They do have an "under $10" section if you're trying to stick to a budget, and they also have wines upwards of $30. The bottled wine is well organized, and if you have no idea what to get the staff will guide you, or even better...why not stop over at the bar and do a flight of wines to find the perfect wine for you? If you're a regular, join their loyalty program for free and you can earn credits for your purchases and use them to buy more wine!
