Near the park is a small restaurant with a simple menu if you want something to eat or drink. There is not much around the park. Many of the buildings in the area are under construction, so in 2025 expect detours, dust and delays. We were only in the area for a day after our flight got delayed and we found ourselves in the area for 24 hours...I'm happy that we stumbled across this nice little slice of nature to get some fresh air and exercise.

It is never to crowded, especially the mornings are nice. There are all kinds of trees, birds (yay!) and other small forest animals. It is great to walk and relax. Inside the forest are many paths, big ones and small ones and you can easily spend a few hours strolling around this place. It is also very popular with dog owners. If you own a car and live around Amsterdam, I highly recommend going here, because it not a far drive from Amsterdam. If you have kids; near the parking lot is a playground and a children's farm with cute animals.

We loved coming here as children, to learn about the forest or do treasure hunts. We would gather beukenootjes (beech nuts?) here, which we would bake into delicious cookies with the help of a recipe my mother once found in the NRC. I went back today with my baby brother who is three now, and we had a great time going to the playground and the petting zoo. When he's a little older, we'll take him for walks here, and perhaps make beukenotekoekjes with him too.

The park is very popular with families on warm days, especially as the swimming area of the lake is quite shallow which of course is great for kids. Not so great for adults looking to cool off with a swim - and that is really my only negative point about this lake. It never really gets deeper than your knees in the swimming area so it's mainly just a nice park to come and lie in the sun but if I want to do some actual swimming I'll be going elsewhere.
