I hired Thomas & Sons to move my parents from one apartment to another. We had planned to have stuff organized when they arrived, but life happened and when they showed up - we'll just say it was not organized in any way. We had a 3 guy crew. They communicated well, showed up on time, were quick, efficient and frankly, they went above and beyond when I had a few additional requests for them. Moving home contents from Chadron to Rapid City after unsatisfactory experience with online moving broker from Florida. The broker could not obtain a trucking company in the requested time so we reached out to Thomas and Sons and luckily they had a cancellation and could move us immediately. They drove to Chadron with a crew and quickly loaded our boxes and furniture. We met them in Rapid City where they quickly and carefully moved our contents to our apartment. I would use them again! Be careful of broker companies, they have so many loopholes in their contract that you don't notice on first reading and they may not know the companies they try to hook up with--some of them are very suspicious! My advice...use your local services whenever possible! We spent 5 days of needless concern and worry! Thomas and Sons are very polite, competent and Reliable! read more

This review is not time based, but experience based. This company is just WOW!! We have used this company twice since we moved to this town. Starting with their phone manners until the move was completed, without a doubt this company is the Best in Rapid City!! I know because I called everyone else, before deciding to use Thomas & Sons. Phone manners can make it or break any deal before it even starts, and these people are professionals starting from the first phone call. Their movers are super polite, punctual, accommodating, they listen, they neither assume nor dismiss what you have to say. They are organized and have it down to the t, it's so pleasant to see someone being effective and knowing what they are doing, besides being nice in the process!! My wife and I just moved from a two-level two-bedroom apartment by Wilderness Park to a house on the east side of town. I was amazed at how quick Thomas & Sons were. Granted, they sent a 4-man crew because we have her old upright piano, but still - from the time they arrived at the apartment to when their truck left the house, they were under 3 hours. That's three hours to load, drive, and unload. And the 4-man crew seems pretty standard for piano moves, based on the quotes I got from various movers. Anyway, they were ridiculously fast. And my wife observed that they were real professional, with the crew chief actively keeping the guys from getting careless with any of our stuff. Plus they were willing to move some stuff I didn't think they would, like a charcoal grill I hadn't cleaned out after the last time I used it, so I liked that. And they were fast! I don't like people in my space or touching my stuff, so the fast thing was all I could ask for from movers. read more

A bit of a late update since this happened almost a month ago, but I wanted to make sure I leave a review because I cannot say enough good things about this company! A bit of backstory: My boyfriend, our three snakes, two cats, and hedgehog were moving across the country from Washington (state) to Michigan. We had rented a trailer to attach to our car but the trailer was overfull and was wearing on our suspension which was wearing on our tires. We had to have the two back tires replaced but while the trailer was attached no mechanic thought it was safe so we had to exchange the trailer for a Uhaul truck. When the time came to move things from the trailer to the new truck, the boyfriend and I were EXHAUSTED. We called Thomas and Sons movers, talked to Julie, but they didn't have anyone available. Given our story, she said that if we couldn't find anyone else to give her a call back and she'd see if she could help us out. I called probably about 10 places and the best time I could get was three days from then - Apparently getting movers at the last minute is impossible. I called Julie back, in tears (again) and she said that she would help me out and find anyone she could to help us out. About an hour (maybe a half an hour?), Tyler and Jared showed up to help us out. I have nothing but the BEST things to say about these two guys - They were SOOOOOO nice, understanding, compassionate, and they did an AMAZING job. They got everything moved about 10x faster than we ever could and when we got to our final destination in Michigan, NOTHING had moved an inch. I can't express how thankful I am to Julie, Tyler, Jared, and Thomas and Sons movers for helping us during an extremely difficult time. I would HIGHLY recommend them for anyone needing assistance with moving and if I lived in the area would gladly use them for ANY other services they provide. They were AMAZING. read more

The move went well and I was impressed with the job done by those moving me, except for one thing which didn't have to be a big deal. The company's response to the issue leaves me wondering about the owners' willingness to accept responsibility and their concern about customer satisfaction. For this reason I would not recommend using them. When I initially scheduled this move, I spoke to Julie and asked if I needed to unload my upright freezer. She said no. The young men who moved me also said there was no need as they would move it full. They did so, placing it against the wall directly in front of the outlet. Four days after my move, I discovered it had not been plugged in. The freezer was delivered on the first of two trips. I imagine I was not told to plug it in because the crew intended to do so when they returned several hours later. Mistakes happen, there was no malicious intent, they were busy. I can accept that. In my opinion, the problem occurred when I called the office. At 8 A.M. or so I left a message stating what happened and asked for a return call. No response. I called again around 1:00 at which time Julie said she was sorry but the situation was my "fault" because I had "forgotten" to plug in my freezer. She stated nothing like this had ever happened before, so clearly the issue was mine. Surprised by this, I stated I expected more from a professional service that cost me $800 (actually it was $880). Given my persistence, Julie asked what would make me happy. I said I would like partial reimbursement for the contents. She said she would get back to me. In the following phone call Julie told me there was nothing they were willing to do to rectify the situation. She went on to explain they didn't plug in my T.V. or stereo, and shouldn't be expected to plug in my freezer. She also stated I needed to "stop blaming" them for the fact I "forgot to plug in my freezer." Interestingly, she did acknowledge the people moving me were "on to the next thing" and that was probably why they didn't plug it in. She didn't seem to understand I was more bothered by her response and lack of concern about customer satisfaction rather than the actual event, even though I stated so using those exact words. Instead she stated "we could argue for the next hour" and nothing would change as she was going to "stand her ground." Because the damage technically occurred after the move, I really didn't expect any reimbursement. I would have been satisfied with a genuine apology and a plan to prevent this from happening to someone else in the future. The "plan" could be as basic as informing customers they would be expected to plug in their own freezers. IF AT ANY POINT I HAD BEEN TOLD THIS WAS THE EXPECTATION, I WOULD HAVE DONE SO. To be clear, my poor review is a reflection my interaction with the office staff, not of the individuals who provided labor. read more
