It is such a wonderful little town that I find that I almost can not believe it exists so close to Cardiff. You normally find those type of towns in or near Pembrokeshire. It is so historic as well; and so many events are happening there all of time, all year round... Such as The Ryder Cup of this year 2010. There is a Roman Museum; a Roman Amphitheatre, Roman Baths, a Golf Club, many neat little shops, restaurants and cafes and lots of playing fields, hotels, bed and breakfasts Fortress Walls, Roman Catholic Church, The National Roman Legion Museum, a Town Hall, Castle Remains & Mynde Wall and many more beautiful historic places for you to have magical days out in. Did you Know? That there is curse known live amongst the soil of Caerloen and King Arthur was said to have been here with all of his knights at the round table... What more could you ask for from such a stunning place in Wales? The best buses from Cardiff to this place are 2A 2B 2C 2D 2E 2X and 7D run every fifteen minutes and the railway lines are a great use of means of public transport and Caerleon is only less than an hour away from Cardiff and Bristol airports. I really do recommend you visit the Tourist information shop there which has loads of free maps and leaflets there, tasty chariatable chocolates for only £1.50p, red dragon toys, books about the place and about places nearby and heritage trail information and there is even another colourful made dragon standing near the desk, inside the shop. It is a small and a quiet place; with one member of staff serving you and that person is very friendly, kind and chatty. It is the best building around there to get all of the information that you should need... A very useful shop for all...

They can also book tickets for local theatre productions, offer general information about the local area, provide you with comprehensive travel information (relating to both public and private transport), and help you with route planning and walks, providing the relevant maps and travel booklets. The information centre also has a range of themed gifts and souvenirs on sale, including many along Celtic and Arthurian themes, if you want to pick up something to take home. Open every day, it's very central and well worth dropping in if you're visiting the area.

Once you get past the Welsh accent, it's perfect!

It's an attractive circular looking building with bundles of leaflets that will keep you occupied till you collect your pension. There is also a gift shop within this tourist information centre should you wish to buy anything Welsh and why not? They stock amongst other things Penderyn Whisky which is building up quite a reputation amongst those in the know around the globe. Apparently a top chef in a well known restaurant in New York refuses to stock any other Whisky and imports Penderyn by the case load - surely that's worth a visit alone (to the visitor centre not New York although that's also a good excuse to go to the big apple too).

My approach to going on holiday is to book the cheapest flight that I can find on the net, and then wing the rest when I get there. To my mind it's more fun this way, and not in the least bit scary as I've done it enough times to know that I'm pretty unlikely to come a cropper, and will always find somewhere safe to stay... even if it's a bus station! I have had a few close calls, and have also ended up paying a lot more money for accommodation than I'd like, but all in all, I've definitely saved money on average, and have met some really interesting people that I wouldn't have had cause to talk to had I booked everything in advance. So, Thomson! Great company! I've flown with them a few times and I've never been disappointed. The standards are high, and difficult to beat. The budget airlines like Ryan Air don't come close. I'd be a happy person if my internet searches came back with Thomson offering the cheapest flights to my desired destination every time!

Thomson offer some great late deals, city breaks and package deals. I wouldn't choose them for a…read morelong holiday but for great late packages you can get a real bargain. I prefer to arrange flights and accommodation myself so the idea of paying extra for a middleman to book these for me seem wrong, also you can spend much more time planning the journey which ends up being more enjoyable than a 20-30 minute conversation that is supposed to try to help you find the package you want.

As always we got great service and a friendly reception; we didn't feel rushed and all our questions were answered. This is why we don't go anywhere else.
