Although I prefer a patty with a bit more seasoning, the actual meat was cooked nicely and the other ingredients used were fresh and crisp. *Feeling Nostalgic for Thomas* I've lived in Marina del Rey FIVE separate occasions throughout my life thus far -- parts of childhood/teenager/early college years/2x in adulthood. (excluding once living in Santa Monica and Venice too) My love affair with MdR began as a toddler, when my Dad decided he wanted to learn how to sail and was really good at it. So good, he bought a sailboat and docked his boat "Windkisst" at MdR Harbor ~~ opposite side of Mother's Beach From once being a small simple beach town where people used to claim only flight attendants and divorced men live, going through midlife crisis, to nowadays, where there's an abundance of millennials, professionals, tech stars, artists & entertainers, pro athletes, and young families who all love living near the beach & ocean with cool breezes. And let's not forget the beautiful sunsets. People used to ask me "why do you live here?" I'd simple say, "because I love the beach. It's not too far from everything in LA. I love it here. And you would too if you spent more time here." But my favorite beach town community on the Westside of LA, Marina del Rey, has changed tremendously through the years. There's still Mother's Beach (off the harbor with calm waters and no waves) where I spent many summer days of my childhood with family & friends, and Fishermans Village, where I spent many summer days & nights throughout my lifetime. Of course, let's not forget the Cheesecake Factory, 26 Beach Cafe, Baja Cantina, Siamese Garden, C&O (formally Cheese & Olive) Hinano, Nick's...and Alan's Market. Mostly everything else from my MdR past, no longer remains the same. I still miss Kifune for sushi & Japanese food which closed a few years ago. And Boys Market too (where Ralph's is now) But over 30 years later, still standing tall & strong...and serving up the same chilli fries & burgers I used to love & grub all the time with most my friends, who loved hanging out with me at or on the beach, is none other than Thomas Hamburgers. It's not the best. It's not the worst. Everything is made fresh to order. The service always fast & friendly and affordable prices. Every now & then they'd make mistakes. But since I was a regular, my order was done right. And it always seemed to work for me when I was craving a chili burger or chili fries and wanted to stay local. The parking sucks...but was okay with me because I usually walked here. Watch your price total. Cashier tried to charge me 19 for a chili cheese fries and large soda. Asked him to ring it again, same price. Asked a 3rd time and it magically became the correct price. I love chili cheese dogs and I was intrigued about the chili cheese burger. I got the single patty with fries and the grilled cheese sandwich. Also got a fish taco. I didn't eat it immediately since I was waiting for a ride so by the time I got to it, it was a little on the cold side. Also, don't be fooled. The burger is under the fries! This Tom's has been around a long time. They painted the outside, but there is nothing new inside. It is not good, it never was and adding the word Cafe to the name does little to improve the food or the service. First, they got our order wrong--twice. How this is possible is beyond me. We asked for chili burgers with no lettuce. It came with lettuce. We asked them to fix it, they did it again. The chili was ever so greasy, and we love greasy chili, but this was not something you want to eat. The fries were not hot nor were they fresh. The place had a smell when we walked in. Not a we just cleaned smell or a chili smell, but a something is off smell. We should have left right then. Never again. read more

Thomas is an institution in Marina del Rey/Venice. It opens at 7 am and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner for eat-in or take away. They are known for the hamburgers, sandwiches, chili ... and Mexican dishes. Our favorite here is a Pastrami sandwich with only mustard on it (4/5). For under $10, you get a generous amount of hot pastrami on a long roll. OK ... it's not the fabulous pastrami sandwiches we used to get back East, but it's very good. Burger spots like this usually have the best breakfast. I come about once a week since I work down the street. Been coming here infrequently for maybe 20 years. Quality is OK, but it's a great value considering what other places in the area charge for a burger. Tip: order a double burger as the patties are super thin. If you can spend a couple bucks more for a better burger, and maybe want a beer to wash it down, head across the street to Hinanos bar. read more

In lieu of the pandemic I like to eat locally and in walking distance. In the some 28 years of living in this neighborhood I think this is the second time I have eaten at THOMAS, although I was a regular at the old Tommy Burgers formerly located at Lincoln in Santa Monica. I had a burger, one chili dog and one regular hotdog with fries and a Gatorade which came to $18.69. By the time the order was prepared and ready to go the food was basically cold which seems ridiculous since there were no orders ahead of me. They drowned the dog with chili and the fries were neither tasty or hot either. This place has been there forever, and I ask myself how? The burger is mediocre, the dogs are less than that and the whole experience is both regrettable and forgettable. This Thomas is in dire need of a renovation, and a far better food experience. I wish I could recommend, especially in these times but the food stinks. read more

This place is a good value, 3.5 stars. Clean eatery with friendly staff at the counter. The fried fish soft tacos are crunchy & delicious, with cabbage, cream, pico de gallo, lime, and a good amount of fish. The carne asada burrito was huge, but a total mess that fell apart and had to be eaten with a fork. However, it was very good with rice, beans, pico, and cream sauce. I think from now on I'm skipping burritos and just eating tacos, so I can see and taste everything. Next time we'll try burgers and maybe a breakfast burrito which looked good. I absolutely LOVE coming to Thomas'. I've been coming here for years and they're service is excellent and the food is even better. My go to orders are the chorizo bean and rice burrito, cheese omelette, and most recently the tortilla soup. It has so much flavor and it's perfect for this cold weather. Only writing a review for the fish tacos. I'd never expect that you'd get good fish tacos from a place named for hamburgers, but whattya know. They're better than the ones that I tried on the actual ocean walk. On the ocean walk, the tortillas were stiff/stale, and the fish was dry and mostly batter anyway. Here you get a ton of fish and fixins for ~$2.50 each. The restaurant is right next to the beach so if you wanted to have a bite to eat on the ocean walk, you could totally take food to-go and make a short walk over there. There aren't a lot of good cheap places to eat in Marina del Rey / Venice this close to the beach, so this place really stands out. Tl;dr this place is better than the stuff you'll find on the ocean walk, so take food to go and eat over there if you want the ocean view. read more
