Its so strange how it closes down and reopens a few months later, only to close again a month later then reopen again. God knows why. I've always thought it would do quite well as it is the only one of it's kind in Motherwell. As well as budgies, different species of fish, hamsters and rats, the shop also sells small lizards, snakes and spiders, which is quite exotic for humble Motherwell. They aren't that expensive either. This wee shop also sells the usual stuff like cages, food, filters for tanks, dog leads and beds. Decent enough, and if you get the man who owns it then he knows his pets. He'll answer any questions you have. Just hurry up before it closes down again!

We decided to go to this speciality fish shop near Stu's work to see what we could do about the other fish, who seems to be anorexic. The guy in the shop just couldn't help enough - he was full of information. And never mind the information, or the fish food, this shop is so interesting just to look at the fish. Upstairs are the more common varieties, as well as some super-cute terrapins, all flailing limbs and jaggy mouths. Downstairs is where the tropical fish live. We spent ages just looking at the different varieties, none of which I could name. It was fascinating nonetheless, and such a friendly place, considering we had only spent 95p!

The man here was a fountain of knowledge on water creatures, the shop is full of them. I fancied some goldfish while I was in there, they are so cheap, but I managed to restrain myself and did the right thing leaving. I wish this pet store was more convenient for me so that I could come instead of go to the big stores. The service was good and everything was really fairly priced which is always pleasant.

What you might not realise immediately is that this is actually a pretty decent little health food store too, with grains and granola hidden away at the back of the shop. The kooky little lady that owns the shop is always cheerful and happy to help, willing to offer advice on purchases from squeaky mice to miso soup. Items here are incredibly cheap compared with big name retailers and there are plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans including soya milk and veggie sausage mix. I really like this little local store and would much rather part with my pennies here than fork out for big brand branches.

We've been taking our Yorkshire Terrier here for 8 years and have always been happy with the quality of her haircut and the quality of her care. Our dog can be a bit of a diva to put it nicely and they are patient and kind and don't rush through the haircut and upset her. If she's having a bad day they will let her go chill out and come back and finish later. I can't stress enough how amazing that is---they care more about the dog's well being than getting the grooming done as quickly as possible. If it takes 2-3 hours then that is what it takes and I love that they put the dog first. They also have washing stations where you can bring in your muddy mutt and wash them yourself. It means you won't have to make a mess in your bathroom and they have everything you'd need. They also offer kenneling, doggy daycare and a full shop on site with food, snacks and other pet accessories. I can't recommend it enough and I'd never think of taking our dog anywhere else.

I've actually never been in even though this is in my local shops and it was good to see the range of stuff they have. They really do have everything (or nearly everything) you could need for your pet - from food, to bedding, to leads and bowls and ridiculous outfits. All those essentials, and more. The store is a decent size and has a good range. We just picked up a few toys on this visit as we wanted to go home and research for the larger purchases. They also sell stuff for cats, rodents, fish, lizards - so a really wide range of pets. They lose a star for selling pets in store which I'm personally not a fan of.

I keep fresh water tropical fish and that's quite complicated enough for me, but I can't help but lust over the beauty of the marine tanks they have on show. Maybe one day I'll have a go. In the meantime they have plenty to keep the fresh water aquarium keeper quite happy. Good, healthy stocks of a wide variety of fish as well as everything you could want or need to keep your tank at its best and healthiest. The prices are maybe just slightly steep but I'm inclined to believe that that's a reflection of the quality of the products.

My aunt left her dog in here for a week once, and left with a lot of tears. It is so difficult to…read moreleave your pet, I don't even know if I would be able to do it. My fluffy dog is like a member of the family so leaving him here would be like locking my cousin in a cage. That being said, the staff were very good at calming my aunt down in her rather fragile state. The week was long not only for her, but Dougal the little yorkshire terrier too. He was ecstatic to see us again when we picked him up, although a bit thin but thats just a side affect of a broken heart from the little dude who refuses to eat until he has his mum back. Aww. The kennels are pretty basic, but word of mouth I have heard has recommended their services.
