I stay at this Thompson frequently for business (and play!) , and it continues to exceed my expectations. From the moment I arrive, I'm always greeted warmly by the staff, (Too many to name, because they are all GREAT!!) who go above and beyond to make guests feel welcome. The level of service is outstanding--everyone is friendly, professional, and attentive to any needs or requests. One of the first things I notice when I walk in is the inviting scent in the lobby--it's fresh, clean, and instantly makes the space feel welcoming and relaxing. It's a small detail, but it adds to the overall atmosphere and makes coming back after a long day feel even more comforting. The rooms are consistently clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, making it easy to unwind. The hotel's restaurants are another highlight. The food is always fresh, delicious, and well-prepared, making dining in a convenient and enjoyable option. The restaurant staff is just as wonderful as the rest of the team--friendly, attentive, and always ensuring a great dining experience. Whether it's breakfast at Surveyor to start the day, a relaxing dinner after work at the lobby bar or a small snack at the rooftop, the quality and service never disappoint. Even when my work takes me farther away, I still choose to stay here over other Hyatt locations because of the exceptional service, attention to detail, and overall comfort. It truly feels like a home away from home, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to other business or leisure travelers looking for a welcoming and high-quality stay.

Roof top event: Great venue! Parking is a bit of a headache. Glad I wore flat shoes because we had to park and walk. They do have valet but the drop off line was long and no attendant present. When we left our friends that did valet had to go retrieve their own vehicles after waiting for a long time. The food was everything!! We were surprised how tasty everything was. Especially the gyro sliders. The bar staff seemed to be over whelmed. One even decided to go back and forth with my sister and I. I don't argue with men but he wanted to continue his unprofessional behavior, glad we had men in our group to deescalate the situation. Bar lines were super long and hectic, served by rude bartenders. One bar tender told the young lady ordering next to me she better have her order ready only to ask her to repeat it several times before she ever went to put the items into the kiosk and then forgot to make items she charged her for. Had me on my toes and ready to run off my groups order. Would have been efficient but the bartender was slower than expected, since she seemed to be rushing patrons for their orders. Overall the experience was cool, especially because we arrived before the rush and were able to grab a large table out on the roof top area. Beautiful view and a great vibe for our group. Out celebrating my husband's birthday!!

Part of the Hyatt Family of hotels, I stayed two nights at the Thompson in DC. This establishment is modern chic and I sincerely appreciate that it was very clean. Two friendly employees were at the front desk and greeted me warmly. Check in was quick and easy. I was provided with two bottles of water, which I desperately needed after such a long travel day. I had a nice quiet room at the end of the hall. I didn't mind the pretty walk because I'd rather not be placed near the elevator, plus I need to get my steps in :) One of the first things that I check before I settle into a guestroom, is how clean the bed sheets are, and how clean the bathroom is. Fortunately, both items were spotless! I read a review that a previous guest didn't like the shower setup....for me, I adjust the shower head so as to not splash water outside of the shower and I'd prefer not having a stinky shower curtain LOL Now other than being at home to sleep in my own bed, this was probably the best two nights of peaceful sleep that I've had LOL thanks to the quality mattress and pillows. Room temperature is easy to adjust to your comfort as well. DC has grown a lot since the last time I was here. Lots of luxury apartment buildings nearby this hotel and the streets are clean. This hotel is situated in a safe area with many eateries in walking distance. In fact, there's also a CVS nearby in case you need something. Before you leave, be sure to visit their rooftop bar and take in the views! Their friendly bartender makes great drinks. See their list of Happy Hour specials, including delicious food. For sure, I will return to this hotel the next time I'm in DC!! This was a great experience and all the employees were friendly and helpful.

We were looking to stay in DC overnight near Nats park on a Saturday and we thought we should come back since we had a good stay last time. Coming in the valet stand was pretty backed up and took a few minutes for them to get to us. Check in was also a little rough. The person at the desk got us mixed up with someone else and we had to come back down to get our real room number. Room itself was ok but mostly clean. It seemed significantly smaller than the room we booked last time but it came with a balcony (2nd floor). Only thing we weren't fans of was the open shower. Lots of splashing on the bathroom floor. Checkout was a lot smoother and they were even nice enough to hold our bags while we went out. Valet was nice and quick retrieving our car as well. The experience was a little rougher than last time. Not sure if it has to do with the ownership change but something has definitely changed.
My stay at the Thompson Washington D.C. in the Navy Yard neighborhood was exceptional from start to finish. The hotel perfectly balances modern luxury with comfort, creating an atmosphere that feels both upscale and welcoming. What truly stood out was the outstanding customer service. Every staff member I encountered was professional, friendly, and genuinely invested in making my stay memorable. Their hospitality extended beyond check-in and check-out, demonstrating a level of care that is increasingly rare and greatly appreciated. read more

Had a two-night stay recently. The lobby and my room had a boutique and modern design. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Room was very quiet and comfortable. However, it was so small that there was even no chair or a working desk. So I had to use my computer on the bed. It does have a spacious social area at the lobby and I saw many people sitting there, chatting or working, during the daytime. Besides, location was good. The hotel is only 5min walk from Navy Yard train station and ~10min walk from the Nationals Park stadium. The price of the hotel flucuates dramatically, strangely. Maybe because it's close to the stadium the price could be significantly affected by the games. I suggest you to check the price regularly. read more

Tis the season for rooftop vibes! This is a cute rooftop located on the top level of Thompson which is a Hyatt hotel. Came to pregame with a friend staying here before heading to a concert at Capitol One Arena. They have a happy hour (yes even on Saturdays) from 5-7 with some light bites and drinks. The view is nice and wraps around 2 sides of the building. They also have a private space for private parties. The prices are as expected for DC life. The happy hour is minimal but is good enough. I arrived right around 5 so it was slow but it definitely got packed within the hour. They had 2 bartenders on staff. I ended up getting a dirty martini and some dip. Both were decent but not remarkable. Would definitely go back. read more

This hotel feels like an independent hotel with more character but it's a Hyatt so you get the hotel points. A 10 minute walk to the baseball stadium, 20 minute walk to the soccer stadium, and very close to the Navy yard ballpark Metro stop. There is a nice walkway along the water that you can take advantage of on a nice day too. They're pretty good breakfast restaurant and dinner options but no lunch restaurant and room service isn't available during lunch. Front Desk surface was very responsive, service was a little complicated but they were pretty quick to bring up the things we ordered. The rooms are your standard city hotel size, a little bit small, but had a small desk area and a nice balcony. read more

I cannot lie, this might be one of my favorite hotels in DC. And I didn't expect that, but I'm so glad I stayed here. This was my birthday hotel choice this year. I came for the balcony, but I left on cloud nine. From the moment I entered the building, I was impressed by the amazing customer service. Christine and Bineyam we're so kind to me. And once they found out, it was my birthday, they did what they could to make it a special experience. They provided amazing service and ensured that I was completely satisfied with my room, and everything else. I stayed in the Thompson suite. It was gorgeous. It's a two room, two bathroom suite. One room has a bed and the other has a pullout couch. There's also a balcony and a Bartini machine. The room was extremely clean. And I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I also want to shout out Million who insisted on helping us with our bags in the kindest way. And, I mean every single bag. I even had a bag of food that he insisted he carry up for us. He was honestly just such a standup guy. And he didn't do that awkward thing that some Bellman and concierge's do where they wait for you to give them a tip. He was just so grateful to be of service to us and was so kind. Another shout out to Christine, who gave us some really great recommendations around and within the hotel. She actually informed us that there was live music upstairs, which was exactly what we were hoping for. All in all, I had a great day. The only thing I will say is that you should call ahead if you book a balcony room. I saw some of the balcony rooms, and they are more like terraces and might not be exactly what you're looking for. That is likely an issue with Hyatt and not this specific hotel itself, but it's worth noting. I will absolutely be back here. I want to see the views from the rooftop bar. read more

Good Afternoon, Christine,…
Let me start by saying this is a beautiful hotel. We did have a really good experience with the staff that was there during the day. The Bartender Chandler and Keke were amazing! Blue was great too. I stayed at the here for a concert, and the valet service handled by PMC Parking was hands down the most frustrating parking experience I've ever had. When I arrived, it was understandably busy, but I was told to pull up behind another vehicle and sat there for 15 minutes while others were checked in ahead of me. I ended up having to drive around the block multiple times in heavy traffic just to get someone's attention -- only to be told again to "drive around." It was disorganized from the start, with no clear system or communication. The real nightmare began when I tried to check out around 3 AM. I called ahead to retrieve my vehicle, only to be told valet was gone for the night. I was instructed to pick up a "key card" from the front desk to access the garage myself. When I got downstairs, another truck was parked directly in front of mine, blocking me in completely. I called the front desk over ten times with no answer, had to walk back upstairs and around the building in the middle of the night in Southeast DC, and found the only front desk staffer standing there doing nothing. I gave him every detail -- make, model, color, tag -- and he acted like he had no idea what I was talking about. He kept repeating that "someone was coming," but never directly answered my question about whether he had a key for the vehicle. Eventually, security arrived with an attitude, and after all that time, they brought down the wrong key -- for a BMW, not the truck that was blocking me. I waited nearly 45 minutes in total, alone, after 3 AM, just trying to get my car out while staff argued and fumbled. The lack of professionalism, empathy, and basic communication from both PMC Parking and the Thompson Hotel front desk staff was unbelievable. There was no plan, no accountability, and no urgency for guest safety or experience. If you're considering staying here -- do not trust PMC Parking with your vehicle, and be aware that the hotel does not have proper overnight support if something goes wrong. For a property that's supposed to be high-end, the service and coordination were absolutely unacceptable. read more

Great hotel, questionable location. Parking was difficult but I chose street parking. There's a mandatory $30 daily fee which is BS because they really don't do anything. The bed was comphy and the decore mid-century modern. The shower was good and hot with great pressure. The AC worked great too. I'd stay again if I was in the need of a hotel but I still prefer Hyatt Place as you get more for your dollar. read more

Thompson Washington is the first Thompson I've ever stayed at. First impressions, the check in space and the lobby are modern and stylish. Thanks to the Hotel Collection program and being an Explorist with Hyatt, I got an upgraded room with a king bed and a comfortable sitting area to relax. In addition, I enjoyed two complimentary breakfasts at their main restaurant, Surveyor, during my two-night stay. I had smoked salmon toast one morning and a guilty pleasure of a breakfast burger the next day, both were delicious. The room had tasteful and modern decor and premium bath products. The shower was my main area of concern as the lack of a door or a curtain caused the water to splatter beyond the shower area. Other pluses for this hotel? The electric bike available for guests was a lot of fun as I took it to explore various monuments across the DC area. Helmet and bike lock were provided. The hotel is also close to the Metro station, only two blocks away, just make sure to take the exit to the US Department of Transportation. read more

This hotel was such a treat for my 2 night stay. Million, the bellman, was incredible. He was so kind and friendly. Let me start by saying this was the nicest hotel staff I ever had the opportunity to meet. From valet, to front desk, to the bellman, everyone was kind, courteous, and very helpful. The room was perfectly clean and comfortable. Loved having a little balcony too! Two block from the stadium, so great for a baseball game. We went to the rooftop bar afterward and omg the view was wonderful. The waterfront is right there, so that was lovely for a stroll too. Tons of eateries, so if you walk away hungry, you did something wrong. Emmys squared was recommended by the valets, and couldn't thank them enough for the suggestion. We ate at the Surveyor the next morning...that is a must! The food was DELICIOUS!!! If I could give this experience a million stars, I would. Thank you! read more

Thompson Hotel is a beautiful Hotel located in the Downtown Navy Yard area. This Hotel was in a great location. The hotel room was very clean with awesome amenities in the room. We had a great view from our window. The only thing I didn't like about the room was there were no chairs but once we requested chairs we quickly received them. I had the honor of attending the State of the Union Address on March 7th and needed a place to stay afterwards I was not interested in staying in a dive nor in contracting bedbugs, so shopped around online and found Thompson which is owned by Hyatt. Everything was to perfection, from the doorman to check in to the room. The hotel was spotless, and every single person, at least thus far, has been most gracious and helpful. I've not eaten here nor enjoyed the bar as I was under time constraints. They provide valet parking, and I felt quite safe. Now for the price...$374.37 for one night. I was pleasantly surprised with our corner suite at Hyatt's Thompson Washington hotel. Located in the heart of Navy Yard with a short walk to the stadium and surrounded by Union Square Hospitality Group's Danny Meyer restaurants. We were able to enjoy the rooftop at Anchovy Social for a night cap before settling into the cozy quarters. I was particularly impressed with a few details, including the black washcloth stitched with "take it off" for my makeup removal. No need to stain a white cloth with my lipstick and mascara. Genius. The bathroom was open concept, meaning no door on the shower but I did love the no-fog mirror inside the shower. The view will be great once all the construction is completed. read more
This was my first time staying at a Hyatt owned property (I prefer Marriott) and I have to say I was impressed. The hotel has a very modern feel/look, the location is conveniently located in the heart of the Navy Yard... walkable to the Nats stadium, many restaurants, District Winery, museums, Capitol Hill and many other attractions. Check in was painless, my room was ready by noon and I even got upgraded to a balcony suite! I found the room to be very comfortable, spacious and the in room amenities were standard. I wasn't a fan of the toiletries because of the strong masculine scent, so I was glad that I brought my own. They have a gym in the basement with a variety of cardio machines (treadmill, peloton bike, elliptical), free weights and a pulley weight system. The Surveyor is attached to the hotel, which is a classic american restaurant, but they are only open for breakfast. I found it to be odd that they don't open for lunch or dinner, but you can order from their menu at the lobby bar starting at 3pm and at the rooftop bar starting at 5pm, which was very good. The entire hotel staff (from the bartender to the receptionist) was friendly, helpful and just very welcoming the entire stay. It's hard to find good customer service anywhere these days, and I found it everyday here at the Thompson. Excellent stay and would recommend staying here if you find yourself in DC! read more

Good Morning Heidi,…
A lovely modern hotel, with a rooftop bar worth seeking out for its own sake. The location in the rapidly redeveloping SE waterfront of DC couldn't be better. It's a block or so from the metro, mere feet (a minute's walk) from a cluster of very good restaurants & bars, just a couple of blocks from Nationals Park (and the variety of restaurants there). The riverfront is close. As a local, this is the "fresh new" part of town. But the service negatives weren't great for a premium, boutique property: * Barely any greeting at check-in. No mention of amenities, or bar hours, questions of what I might need. Zilch. I booked through an agency, but this is still a premium property and every guest should be welcomed. * No towels or floor mat in the bathroom -- literally only one handtowel and one washcloth. I was going out immediately, so didn't note this until the next morning. * An equally terse checkout. No offer of checking/printing a folio or asking after departure needs. Granted, the reception clerk was struggling to store an excessive amount of guest luggage at the time, but inanimate suitcases can wait-- attend to the human first. Or staff up appropriately. * And there's a $30 "destination fee". That they didn't mention at check-in OR check-out. If everybody has to pay it, mention that it'll come out of the credit hold-- surely others will be surprised or unaware also? Presenting a printed bill to customers whose email you don't have is another simple way to note the fee. C'mon, basic hospitality: no surprise charges. * Never mind that a boutique urban hotel shouldn't have a "destination" fee. Universally-detested "resort" fees (that the feds are moving to ban) at least usually exist for a reason, typically covering out-of-hotel services (like beach towels, shuttle buses, watersports, etc). What non-standard service this fee covers is not mentioned anywhere I saw, nor in correspondence with the hotel and with Hyatt. If you need more revenue per room, build it into the room rate. A mandatory fee to bring the advertised rate down is dishonest. * The kicker-- I emailed the hotel (using the address on their official "contact us") to ask about the mysterious charge. No response. I emailed Hyatt about the lack of response, and they got Thompson DC to finally respond (a whole week passed by this point). My follow-up reply email to THAT also ignored. Clearly somebody is not interested in monitoring their inbox. The rooftop bar deserves further mention-- it has a huge wrap-around area with views, and the inside space is cozy-- weird to not have the hotel hype up this jewel? Usually at least tell guests "the bar is open until...". The drinks there were good (not unusual) but anything served in this kind of setting is automatically enhanced. Other thoughts: The 2nd (lobby) bar was strangely empty / unmanned, both early & late (and just one couple there in the morning). A bit strange for such a large space. The bed was comfortable. I travel heavily, staying at ~30 different, diverse properties per year -- so small things don't bug me, they happen. But cumulative or multiple issues often imply a systemic problem. I dock one star for the "destination fee" fun and one star for the service snafu. I'll definitely return to the bar, but would hesitate to stay here again. read more

Everything is very good. So for the duvet, there is NO sheets between you and the DUVET... I guess they actually change out the duvet cover for each stay?? How would you know??? Also the door in the bathroom won't latch. It's off well the rooftop was pretty cool but for a high class joint like this, you should expect no defects no deficiencies. There are many hotels in DC but this one is the best by far. Why is it the best: Navy yard location/cleanliness/decor/service/overall vibe 1. The front desk staff is friendly, accommodating, and prompt to respond to requests 2. The lobby smells so good and the decor is modern yet warm and inviting 3. Onsite restaurant and rooftop bar 4. Water provided at checkin, coffee station in morning, and complimentary pastries at front desk 5. Upon entering the guest room you are greeted with sultry jazz that creates a relaxing ambiance 6. I love that the room has hardwood floors (carpet should be banned in hotels anyway). Hyatt got it right. 7. Well appointed guest room with work desk, refrigerator, robe, black face cloth to remove makeup. Bed is extremely comfortable. This will be the hotel I choose EVERY time I visit DC!! read more

I enjoyed my stay here. Great location and they accepted my per diem rate requirements. You have to ask for the extra stuff, like slippers, steamer, coffee maker, etc. They even brought me a yoga mat. The hotel, front desk staff, and maids are truly spectacular at their jobs. It is a well kept hotel that is very clean and in a great location that is very walkable with lots to see and do. As a Globalist that travels 36-48 weeks a year, I was almost fully impressed with this property...but luxury seems to be an aspiring goal for this Thompson. The front desk staff, restaurant manager, and Marquis from Valet are wonderful, always smiling and willing to go the extra mile for you. If not for these shining stars and ONLY Marquis from Valet, the Motel 6 Rejects managing the Valet service and WWAs (Waitresses With Attitude) waiting on tables or taking phone orders would have made this review fully negative. Fair warning to my fellow travellers: when ordering breakfast please make sure you have the waitress repeat your order back to you. Otherwise if you ask for sunny side up eggs you will get scrambled eggs instead (not even homonyms so not sure how to explain that). Also be prepared to deal with lackadaisical hostesses that will infer you are out of your mind and lying when reordering the same exact drink you had yesterday by telling you they "never had that." Guess I entered the Twilight Zone for my sugar free vanilla cold brew on Wednesday and came back to the real world (or vice versa) on Thursday. C'est La Vie.... Let me pose this question to the reader that made it this far: for $60 a night for parking that is Valet only, what would you expect? I'm simple, so I expect some Valet to greet or direct me to where on the 80 feet of curb space, that is never empty, I should park my car when performing the handoff. Does this happen here? Nope. Let me tell you a story of what happens here so you can be prepared. Story time...Once you are frustrated enough to hop up on the sidewalk after circling around for 10 minutes, you get out to look for the Valet. So you play the "hurry up and wait game" again as a free gift included as part of your $60 fee and stand at the Valet podium guessing he must be busy running around parking cars. You notice a young, tall, white guy on the other side of the door frantically fingering his phone and glancing outside in your direction every few minutes. After about 9 minutes you decide to head inside to the front desk. As you pass Whitey you discover he speaks and are further astonished to find that HE IS THE DAMN VALET! Maybe he is well paid to continuously finger his phone instead of perform the service guests paid for...so when you mention the experience to the front desk staff you are even more astonished to find that Caleb is the Valet manager. Wow...just wow...explains a lot. Do you have an early morning flight and have your car in Valet? May the Lord have mercy upon your soul. $60 a day Valet is half ass Valet with NO SERVICE between midnight and 7 am...guess what is funny as hell...you get to go down and get your car yourself. Wait...I thought there was no self parking. Then again, I also thought a Luxury Hotel meant stellar service all around. Do not make my mistake and have high hopes, expect the same service you'd get at a Hyatt House for triple the price. I expected better from a luxury brand under the Hyatt family, this stay taught me to lower my expectations. read more

Great overall service. I was greeted right away at the hotel lobby and was check in quickly. I was upgraded to a king size suite and was given 2 breakfast vouchers because of my Amex status. Lobby bar also had good service and a variety of options to eat and drink. read more

My family and I came out to Washington DC from Los Angeles for a very important birthday celebration. Our plane arrived late in the evening and despite the time we were pleasantly and enthusiastically greeted by Monique!! She was the ball of energy we needed after a long flight and she made us feel so welcomed and at home. Now let's get into the hotel's decor!! The nautical touches to align with being located in the Navy Yard were uniquely fantastic and the seating areas were so charming I couldn't wait until the morning to get the full experience. The room's decor and lighting were great!! And I absolutely loved the sensor lighting in the bathroom under the vanity. What a classy touch. To top it all each room has gorgeous floor length mirror in it that just makes everything look so trendy( Pic attached) I found myself taking a daily picture in it simply because it was so fly. We also encountered another great employee during our stay by the name of Jason. He was so accommodating and helpful it was refreshing. Like one day while we were waiting on our car from valet, Jason approached us and asked if we heard about the incident at the Capitol and we had not. So he explained there was some sort of occurrence in which some policemen had been injured and he recommended we avoid that area at all costs. The incident occurred maybe about 20-30 minutes prior and we had no idea as we were busy getting ready. We were so grateful to Jason for keeping us informed as this helped us to avoid any unnecessary danger and traffic. During our stay we had the opportunity to hang out in the bar area (while safely social distancing) and it was just a nice vibe and the drinks were good. There are an abundance of local restaurants, a Starbucks and a grocery store all within walking distance. Oooooo I almost forgot!!! If you have a dog and would like to bring them along, this is really your place to stay!! Not only is the hotel pet friendly, but it's right next to a really nice dog park and there are so many people in the area that have dogs in general that it made me wish I had brought mine. :) In a nutshell if you are visiting the DC area I highly recommend you stay here whether you're alone, on a romantic trip, with your kids or pup! The hotel is beautiful, the staff is wonderful and it's located in the middle of so much. You won't be disappointed! I can't wait to come back for another visit. read more

The rooms are gorgeous and I really like the neighborhood. The bed is pretty comfy and you can cast apps on the tv. The staff was pretty friendly and knowledgeable. I would've give 5 stars but the check in was later than most hotels but they did let me store my bags so I could walk around. read more

Navy yard is a nice area but super smelly. Housekeeping did not come until after multiple requests. They also put my luggage in the hotel because they went in the room to clean prior to my check out time. The property description lists room service. That actually is not an option. Their staff is overall unfriendly. The service at this hotel is far lower than what I expect from a Hyatt property, especially at explorist status. read more

My recent two-night stay was absolutely fantastic. Every staff member, from the front desk to housekeeping, was incredibly attentive and helpful. The room itself was spacious, immaculately clean, and wonderfully comfortable. Also, had great late-night happy hour at the lobby bar and breakfast at the restaurant. All said, I genuinely enjoyed every moment of my stay and look forward to another visit soon. read more

We hung out at the downstairs / lobby bar and Lucas was the best host. He was very attune to whether or not we needed another drink and had EXTENSIVE knowledge of the full bar and the on/ off menu offerings. 10/10 recommend and the rooftop view is just a bonus read more

Total garbage. Service was less than a holiday inn. Stay away and I've stayed at 100's of hyatts and this is easily the worst.
