Peterborough museum is a great place to take the children for an outing in the holidays, it has so…read moremuch to offer and lets you find out all the things about peterborough you probably did not know before. When I visit there it takes a good few hours to look all around the museum and my daughter loves the last room we visit, which has activities for the children to do. In the school holidays they have various events on to get the children in, last year they held a fun day where my daughter had clues to find items all around the museum and they gave out sweets to the children at the end, it was a fun day out and my daughter always asks to go there and the cathedral when we are in town. There is a website you can visit that tells you all about what is being held there and events coming up, I personally love the live camera which is supposed to be ghost hunting, as there is apparently a few ghosts which regularly visit the museum and the workers there, although I myself have never come accross anything paranormal!! They also have a ghost walk which is done every halloween and would love to go on it one year, maybe when my daughter is a little older. They have a visitor shop where you can purchase memorabilia to keep and gift ideas. If like me you love history and finding out about different places then you will love the peterborough museum, it certainly has a lot to offer all ages.

CrackPots seems fairly new and it's a great pottery painting place! It's closed on a Monday so that pottery can be baked and glazed ready for collection but otherwise it's open fairly normal hours and is the sort of place you would want to take the kids! It's something that people often overlook but being able to design and paint your own plates and mugs etc is great! Whether it be for personal reasons or for gifts! I will be going here for sure soon!!

It contains a slide, spider web, hamster wheel (you have to go to see what I'm talking about!) and various other fun stuff. Children will have hours of fun whilst adults can sit and relax with a bar and seating area. I'm not sure how much entry is, but it used to be expensive a few years ago. Great if you want to keep the kids entertained for a few hours though!

Tickets are quite expensive as are the refreshments when you get inside. There is a seating area for the adults which gives a fairly good view of the huge soft play area so keeping an eye on the kids is not too hard but the seating area is not really big enough and does not tend to be very clean or well looked after. There are several attendants positoned in and around the soft play area who range from those who obviously love their job and working with children to those who are really uninterested which is a bit of concern when childrens safety is at stake especialy on things like the big vertical drop slide.

There is a good variety of walks through some great countryside and trails, we only did one of the short ones. West Lodge put on a variety of activities throughout the day including cow-milking, pony grooming, pet the rabbits and ferret racing! You can also take a barrel ride on the back of a tractor every hour, if you can squeeze into the barrels. There are tractor rides round the whole farm which is something well worth doing, though it is about £1 each extra I think. We went on a coldish day that was slightly overcast and there was plenty to do indoors, including a nice not too expensive cafe, an indoor play area for littler children, a painting activity, animal petting etc etc. They also have ride on tractors which they told us would be going under a barn roof so they are suitable year round. The childrens play area was very good with lots of sand and buckets and spades, and some good equipment. If eating in the cafe is not your bag, then we were impressed with the choice of places to picnic, and of course vast open fields too! One of the picnicking areas is next to a small copse with denmaking stuff in, which our children enjoyed. The farm was not massive, it was a really nice friendly size, and not too packed either. We had a lovely, relaxed visit and all enjoyed it loads. A shame you have to exit through the gift shop, but it was reasonably priced stuff and everywhere seems to do this now. We paid £16 for a family ticket, though an annual pass is only £80 and we will seriously consider this in the future.

And then there is a little cafe with an inside playground which is great. They serve food as well as an assortment of cakes and biscuits. Then we had lunch on their restaurant which was great with a varied menu. And afterwards ice cream at their ice cream space. Also when you enter and exit there is a toy shop which your kids will love which also sells useful items like wellies if you come on a day that rains. A great spot: we will definitely return!
