I was so excited when I finally found this little shop after wandering around the time zone that is Afflecks Palace. This place sells all the favs from dip daps, nerds and wham bars to 10 flavours of bon bons, midget gems, pineapple cubes, lager tops and so on and on and on and on..... all priced at 75p per 100g! They should change the saying from "cheap as chips" to "chip as the sweets in Retro Sweets in Afflecks Palace". A big surprise was the selection of Wonka sweets available. I have only ever seen a few varieties in Selfridges but this was just simply amazing! I can't even remember the names of them there were so many! We came away with a bag full of sweets for only £4 and were well happy! :) Shall be my new fav sugar haven.

A real traditional style sweet shop with wall to wall sweetie jars. As well as traditional and…read morerecent sweets and chocolates (including a large selection by Goody Good Food, and a good range of sugar-free sweets, they also sell local ice cream, soft drinks, and Slush Puppies. They also have some specialist items such as to-order cakes and boutique chocolates, and imported American goods. They occasionally sell unusual trivial items such as pictures, models, ornaments, and even neckties. These aren't worth bothering with though, as they are just filler. The store thrives best on its confectionery. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. They don't currently accept cards, but they have done previously. One of the owners says that they're looking into doing so again in the future.

Honestly, those days did once exist. And they were brilliant, let me tell you. We're talking bon bons, liquorice, chocolate buttons and far more besides. I love all of those things. They also sell a range of drinks, crisps and chocolates that are more like the regular confectionary you find nowadays. Sweet Sensations is located in the bustling food hall in the Arndale Centre.

Indeed, I defy anyone not to fall in love with this place from the moment they step through the door and spy the huge glass jars of multi coloured bon bons lining the shelves of the store. When I went in, I immediately reverted back to my five year old self, particularly when I saw that they sold Sherbert Dib-Dabs, Popping Candy and Wham bars. Add to that friendly knowledgeable staff (who are always happy to provide you with a sample or two), and you have the perfect place for you to blow all of your pocket money - regardless of what age you are!

It's a great place to go with you family if you want a taste of American candy if you've never tried it before. Only one small flaw is that it doesn't sell A&W Root Beer, a great traditional drink that is exclusive to America.
