Beautiful campground- scenery can't be beat. Workers were friendly and the pool was great. I wish there wasn't so much poison ivy at my site as it was rather small and the cleanliness of the bathrooms/overall maintenance left something to be desired for sure. Loved that it was close to nearby towns on Lake Michigan to explore. read more

guide us to section that had power. No sewers available but they were offering free dump service at our site. We were very impressed with their communication pre check in and day of check in to alert us to the outage. Our site fit our 36' MH and we parked car in the space as well. Had plenty of room around our campsite. There does seem to be a number of annuals but that doesn't bother us as long as they are tidy. Really liked the grounds of the park, all the view points of the pretty waterfall and the walkway and staircase around it. The large river flowing by the park provides access to water sports with a nice boat launch area. The lodge offered games and other amusement plus nice viewing deck of the river and forest. We did not use the pool or the facilities, only there two nights, but they did appear in working condition. In the future, if we are in this part of the state we would stay longer at this park. read more

Just checked in today. So far so good. We were not able to get a sewer site. Apparently they sold allot of the sewer sites. Do have electric n water hook ups. The RV spots are close but plenty room for our needs. We did notice couple campers are taking up two sites. The stair cases, bridges, and walkways are incredible. Leading down to the river. Excited to get the kayaks on the river. We went in and checked out the restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities. The restrooms are extreme clean. Laundry room is very nice $1.75 for washer and $1.50 for dryer. Good deal! We've paid way more at other parks. We then went and checked out the pool, and hot tub area. They are remodeling the pool and looks like they have filled in the hot tub. It is all closed for now. Nice play ground for the kiddos. Then there is a huge play room with arcade games, air hockey, huge tv room with lots of seating, big kitchen area. This RV park really has it all. I would definitely stay here again. *FYI there is a tree on one side of the park that drops down and you can only get an 11 foot vehicle under it. **Lots of events on calendar including an ice cream social ***Be aware road going up to entrance could be narrow if you passed another RV on the road. read more

We came here to see the Bear Cave and the Tulip Tree. I was really excited from the description online which seems a little embellished (see below). Our experience was not as "magical." First, you are pointed to a door in a cabin where the cave begins. Do you remember the Silence of the Lambs? Thats how it felt. You go down alone and when you get down there, it is wet which we expected but there is a opening to the outside and it ruins the "experience." The cave is very, very small. We then went outside to look for the Tulip tree and came across a small waterfall which honestly was the saving grace of the trip, but really not a a big deal in hindsight. We walked around looking for the tree and had to ask again where it was...in the middle of a campsite and if you blink you miss it. Overall not worth the two hour drive but the $3 per person was the actual price. Honestly, it should have been free. read more

My husband and I stayed here several months ago and were quite impressed on the grounds. Very lush, lots of tree, spacious RV spaces and our 1988, 33ft was allowed. We saw a cute raccoon get in stuck in a dumpster and I notified the manager and he was awesome! He went to let the poor little thing out right away (although they are called dumpster cats so I assume this happens all the time LOL) Quiet enough (you have neighbors). Nice walking road and even has a little store. The store doesn't have much, but it has what you need, basics like TP, drinks and marshmallows..etc. We felt safe there at night, but it was very dark. Not a lot of lighting around spaces, but it's the woods, who wants light?! Well, I do. Hence the name BEAR CAVE! Anyway, our stay was nice, but I do have a gripe. The bathrooms were scary dirty. Lots of mildew in the tiles and not a super secure door so bugs kept flying in (yeah I know, its the woods). But a hot shower is a hot shower and we have no hot water so I can't complain too much. I would ask them to improve their shower facilities, but keep in mind when you are camping, you are camping. It's not the Hilton. (thank goodness for that, Right?!) read more

You actually enter the thing from the gift shop. Odd. The cave itself only takes about three minutes to see and the most interesting thing down there seemed to be the natural spring. My family and I originally booked one week at this campground, but ended up enjoying it so much that we requested an additional week stay. Yolanda, the manager, did everything in her power to make this work and we were fortunate enough to spend extra days here! Our stay fell on Memorial Day weekend, and Yolanda and her team hosted a bbq potluck for the entire campground, as well as other activities and events. They worked so incredibly hard all weekend to ensure everyone had a great time, we were so impressed by their work ethic and welcoming attitudes. The campground itself is beautiful, tucked back in the trees along a beautiful river. I would say the only downfall is that full hook-up spots are extremely limited due to the annual and seasonal campers, so I would come into this campground with the mindset that you will likely only find a water/electric spot (especially if you are arriving closer to the weekend). Our first week was spent with partial hook-ups, but the bathhouses were clean and we were completely okay using them. So much to do in the area with Lake Michigan only a short drive away. This is mostly rvs and campers, with only about 6 tent sites, which are so close to each other, you can hear each others conversations. Even tho there were 3 empty sites, I was put next next to the occupied spots on a site that wasn't big enuf for a tent because of being so unlevel. For the price I expected a little better. I liked the cave, even tho it is VERY small and nothing else was worth going back a 2nd time. read more

Our second time back in this area. We love this campground. It's clean, well maintained and the staff are very friendly. We have been full timing for 12 years now. Have been to many parks all over the U.S., Canada and Mexico. No real favorite parks, but this one is right at the top of the list because it's well maintained and there is so much to do in the surrounding areas. Yeah, your going to have the rowdy people or pools that are in need of repair or bathrooms that are dirty but one has to look at the overall picture. These problems are usually fixed fairly quick. Part of 1000 trails. However even though we were able to book two weeks under 1000 Trails. After driving car thru park found out it was first come first serve, not all spots had full hookups, most of larger good spots are taken by campers that are permanent summer residents.. no easy good spots for RV our size Class A 42'. You would think lady we booked with thru 1,000 trails would have said to us no guarantee spot for your size. Do not rely on any 1,000 Trails parks. Not all alike. Will not renew our membership... park looks much nicer on line than in person read more

I called ahead to get the gate code. Sites are unassigned and first come first serve. We were able to locate a back-in full hookup site with decent shade. Park is spacious and grounds are well maintained. It does not have wifi. We noticed a lot of immobile (longtime?) residents with trailers that have wooden decks. There is a small boat dock down at the river. Bathrooms are antiquated and in need of renovation. Not all showers had hot water and the showerheads need to be replaced due to uneven water flow. Over the air TV was good with 22 channels found. Large clubhouse was an 80s timewarp with its arcade-style video games and VHS tapes (WHAT?! Is anybody actually watching these?) The bear cave tour was a complete waste of time. You walk down some stairs and then go around a short loop - save your $3.00. Laundry was good at $2.00 to wash and $1.50 to dry. Our T-Mobile phones couldn't find a signal either in the park or in the town of Buchanan. read more

What a disappointment... This establishment is NOT pet friendly and the staff is extremely rude. We arrived and were shown our site and advised that our dogs needed to be leashed and we had to pick up after them which wasn't a problem. The next day we were greeted by MI state police (4 squad cars) and advised that we had to leave and our dogs aren't welcome. We had 8 children with us and it was approaching dark we were tossed out like trash left "homeless" and then when we asked for our money back they advised us to leave or the police would return. These people are criminals and we are also filing a complaint with the better business bureau. read more

I visited a friend who camped at Bear Cave RV Campground last week. O my. A beautiful setting that has been completely neglected and fallen to pieces. i think the staff is trying but there is no direction. The most recent manager was fired, though if he did any good, it doesn't show anywhere. They say the Cave flooded and hasn't been repaired. It's a cave right? How hard can it be to "fix" it? The pool... The County or State (or both,) closed it for safety issues. The decking around it is completely rotted away so we are not talking a recent issue here. Obviously the fired manager didn't cause the issue but, he didn't attempt any repairs either. I take that beck, there is Gorilla tape along the pool, I guess he "tried." The water was a bit green, however that might be from its' closure. The hot tub is a hole, nothing more, it is not functional. The lone vending machine by the laundry room doesn't have product in it, which is kind of unhandy when the store closes at 6pm on weekends. $1/piece of firewood seems kind of steep. My friend also commented about the "resort fee" which wasn't totally explained to him either. The "honey pot" (?) broke down, and that too irritated some. Machinery breaks down, it happens. First come first served is the rule, which confuses those that have made reservations and they have to drive around with their rigs, looking for a site. Like I said, it's a beautiful and unique setting, poorly run for a number of years, this didn't happen over night and it won't be fixed overnight. The sad thing, will people ever want to return? Pretty disappointed. Arrived to find that camp sites are not reserved so we had to drive around and around looking for a decent spot. Pool was suppose to open at 9am but no one had a key to open it til after 10. Buildings are old and musty. Don't depend on the camp store for much more than ice. read more

I've been back twice now and LOVE this place. We love the wooded area and the trails. The pool is repaired (not the spa yet) and it was even a warm!! Our neighbors were nice and friendly and we met some new people. The new manager is trying to get the place up to stuff. We think he was handed a mess from the previous manager but that's a personal opinion. As I mentioned, the pool has been repaired, 3 buildings had new shingles put on yesterday and the dock has been replaced. The manager Neal talked to my husband and said he "hopes" to have the road going back into the campground paved next year but right now that's a dream. The weekend of the Red Bud with so many campers there they had a country band in the pavilion. They plan on doing that on holiday weekends. Last night they set up a movie out in the open field for the kids. I can't wait to return!!! read more

This was a horrible experience! The staff is on a huge power trip and thinks they can talk to you however they want! I watch the manager, or who I thought was, cuss a man out and belittle him! Then, when I went to the bear cave store I saw who theHe real manager was and realized it was her spouse who was cussing the campers out! When I said something the manager tried telling me I miss understood! But it was clear what it was because my daughter asked me what a "mother f****" was because she her this lady say those words! My Daughter and friends went to the campsite and left without a refund within 1 hour of arriving at Bear Cave on the weekend of 8/10/2013 due to the unbelievable RUDE lady manager. It was a wasted $100 and my daughter had read the previous reviews but did not believe that the Campground could be that bad. ...We were wrong. As a father who has been in the business world for over 38 years I would avoid this campground as much as possible. They have made a SERIOUS mistake in hiring the lady manager. Absolutely ZERO people skills and should not be working at a campground when all employees should be friendly, welcoming, and appreciative for visiting. The lady accused 2 of the people of being intoxicated which is absolutely unprofessional. The group does not drink period. Also, the RUDE MANAGER shut the door on them at the small office and told them to leave. If you are considering going to Bear Cave RV Resort & Campground I would ask that you reconsider as my daughter and her friends had a most unpleasant experience WITHIN 1 HOUR of arriving from this lady manager. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! The only positive thing I can say is the people we camped next to were awesome, which is more than I can say of the staff. They were so rude and inconsiderate. They claim they allow all pets but they discriminate against certain breeds! It doesn't state it anywhere on the website and we booked online, when we were set up and had spent an entire night there the manager decided to kick us out at 6pm the next day claiming she doesn't allow our type of breed. What's worse is she kicked our neighbors out too because their dog "looked like a pitbull" but it wasn't one! It was a weimaraner mix! She saw our dog when we checked in so why would you wait so long to have an issue? Terrible! I would recommend Fullers Campground, they ARE pet friendly and they have a beach! read more

We were excited to be going to this campground, the letdown was enormous. The campsites that we're available when we checked in on Friday around 6 were tiny. The steps to the bathhouse/pool area were eroded and dangerous. The lodge with the arcade, most of the machines were out of order, but the bathrooms were cleaner and bigger than at the bathhouse. There is a severe shortage of picnic tables and the camp store had little to offer. I suspect this place was awesome before it fell onto disrepair and neglect, it could be awesome again with some proper management and some TLC read more

We have stayed there before and we liked it. This Memorial Day Weekend (2017) we arrived and found out that full hookup sites are all taken or reserved for seasonal customers. Many sites electric hookups were out of service. But that's OK. Next we didn't have picknick table on our site so we wet to the office and ask if they can get one for us and we were informed that they are short on picnkick tables - are you serious!!! Employee told us that management was aware about this problem but wouldn't do anything about it. Bathrooms near pool are horrible - entrance door are so dirty that i wouldn't touch it with bare hand - inside not much better. We rented kayaks - full of water and other debris and we had to clean it up. At least we were charged for 2 hours instead for 2.5h. I could complaint more and more but the bottom line is this campground deteriorated significantly since 3 years ago and it is such a shame because of it's beautiful location. It has a grat potential but with management like that it is going nowhere but down. I might try it once again but not likely... such a shame. read more

We stayed here about 3 years ago and had a very pleasant experience. This trip was much different. I'm not sure what happened to this campground, but it is not in good condition and the manager (Monica) is very rude to people. She also lied several times to us. Will not be staying here again and would not suggest anyone else does either. Very sad as the campground has a lot of potential. read more

We camped here last year & once this year so far. The place looks like it was quite a beautiful resort back in it's day. Seems a little run down & I get the impression they have hired a few young people, part time to do it all!!! I think they need some work campers or to hire a little more help to get it back to it's glory days & then to Keep this place in shape for it's it's full potential to shine threw. Weeds in stair & walk area's need a lot more attention etc..As far as the camp sites, they are very spacious & many of them have cement pads for your rig which is awesome. Great scenery, quiet & peaceful. No complaints there at all. Met the manager a couple times, Very professional, helpful, polite & just seemed to be a good person over all. My biggest complaint was that the pool had the heat stuck on full throttle last year so was not enjoyable at all. When I called this year they said pool was up & running perfect. When we showed up, heat did Not work in pool at all so it was very cold & they had No idea when it would be fixed. I realize a lot of pools are not heated at all, but felt misguided about the pool last year & this year. I always like the truth Before we make plans to camp etc. Hot tub was empty last year & was supposed to be up & running this year but is not! Normally not a big deal if there was a lake to swim in etc but there is not. There is however an awesome river to camp by with beautiful views. Great for kayaking but to dirty brown to swim in. Deep enough for boating & skiing etc. if you don't mind doing so in the river. Boat launch isn't the best for putting in a ski boat but great for a small fishing boat or kayak. If you are into kayaking there is a public boat launch a few miles south of the camp ground where you can put your kayak in & get out at the boat launch at Bear Cave. It's about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hour trip depending on how fast the river is running. That is also with no paddling, just enough to keep you headed in the right direction. Great short trip :) Or fast trip if paddled some. They do rent kayaks for if you don't have your own no problem, enjoy yourselves. read more

Stayed there because they were less than a mile away from the Red Bud motocross track. Given that this big professional circuit race is an annual event that brings in over 30,000 people to this small community, I was a bit skeptical when I arrived because there were several open sites, but I knew that several campgrounds that were further away were and had been booked for months, now I understand why. The so called management did little except harass several respectful paid in full guests. Their lack of professionalism and manners made staying there a horrible experience for me and my family. We were harrassed non-stop, pictures were taken of our site as they thought it was messy (trust me it was not). We were also harrassed, as were several others about car parking, a rule that everyone seemed to respect but was taken to an extreme by the unreasonable evening shift management team led by an extremely disgruntled dark haired female employee who would not provide a name nor had a name tag. We witnessed one camper, who was having dinner at the time, get verbally assaulted by the male bearded employee because, when asked to move his car to his site (10 ft away), told them that he would gladly do so in a minute when he had finished his meal. This was apparently not a satifactory response to the extrememly unreasonable management team, hence the threat of violence. Due to this we promptly decided it was time to leave their facility and seek better accommodations. I do not recommend this campgound to anyone looking for a pleasant camping experience. It's too bad that this small community needs to suffer from such a inhospitable establishment, but it is good for the other the more professional locations nearby. Fullers campground is very nice, by what I've heard, wasn't able to stay there, they were booked. read more

My girlfriend's family has camped here for several years running, with mixed results here and there. While it has never knocked our socks off, it was never terrible either. That is, until this most recent camping excursion. Management harassed and belittled us for the entire week, for supposed rule violations, ranging from "fishing without a license" (which is perfectly legal in Michigan if fishing from shore) to "parking in a no parking zone" (no such designation was posted in or near the parking space). At one point during the week, the manager stormed into the campsite and demanded $5 payment from every car owner for supposedly failing to pay the visitors fee to park (no such fee exists). She bullied, harassed and threatened everyone for the entire week of the Fourth of July. The final straw came the last night, when the campground manager stormed over and berated my girlfriend's grandfather for a supposed infraction, humiliating him in front of his family and friends who had gathered to celebrate the Fourth of July. Under no circumstances should this facility be patronized, ever. Absolutely appalling read more
