Both have, over the 11 years, been lovely and tasty 95% of the time. I usually spent between £3-£5, depending on what I'm having and if I need to buy a drink at the same time. Depending on the time it can get incredibly busy here, so pressure is put on the staff. I have always found them to be pleasant and professional, maintaning a quick service, taking orders and passing them onto the backroom staff to prepare and bring over. I've typically been in and out, during the busier times 10 minutes max. I have a 30 minute lunch but work close by so it's fine with me. You can eat inside, the seating area is attached to the walls facing the window, so you can look outside while eating. This also prevents the potential long queues from disturbing you, as you are facing away from it. I have seen the staff cleaning and wiping down surfaces when those who eat in leave, which stands them in good stead from a hygeine perspective.

The prices are respectable, the staff are friendly and the turnaround on hot food is excellent. I had a full English breakfast for just £2.75 and was impressed by the eatery's atmosphere and pleasant customer service, but the toast was charred, the bacon was tough as old boots and I did not enjoy my meal in the slightest.

It has a bright interior, with the occasional picture on the wall to add a splash of colour. There is even a piano, which I'm sure is used at times to regale the customers with a song. The tables are a good mix of occasional tables for two, along with round tables for a larger group. The tea rooms have a good atmosphere, busy but friendly. Also, if you sit in the main part your sense of smell is treated to aromas pervading from the kitchen. The menus is fairly comprehensive, ranging from reasonably priced home-made cakes like lemon shortbread, coffee cake and chocolate crisp to name but a few, to a good variety of hot dishes. These include toasties, teacakes, jacket potatoes, chilli etc, as well as daily specials; a little on the pricey side though in comparison to the cakes. Drinks again have a good range from various types of tea and coffee, to cold drinks like J20. All in all a good tea rooms, with enough variety to satisfy the need for a snack or a meal of greater substance. There is outside seating too, in the picturesque courtyard of the Ferrers Centre, flanked by colourful border flowers.

Decent slices of bread toasted the old fashioned way, instead of being buttered the wrong side and then squished flat in one of those toastie machines. They serve meals generally along the shepherds pie, chilli con carne style, but it's all great quality, reasonably priced and full of flavour. There are outside tables as well, so on nice days you can sit in the courtyard, enjoy the various sculptures that are dotted around, and for those budding Kasparov's, play with the enormous chess set (and for those Harry Potter fans out there.. OK, it's not THAT big!). Or you can just people watch as others stroll around the courtyard, which is lined with small shops and galleries that attract a healthy number of visitors. There's even a smithy there if you are in need of a wrought iron gate, or desperate for that perfect weathervane. There is a small shop in one corner that sells mainly childrens toys, and it's fab. I'll find out its name and review it seperately, but it's on the right as you walk into the courtyard from the main entrance. On its own, the tearooms are probably not worth a special trip, but if you have a spare afternoon, Staunton Harold itself, with its craft shops, galleries, garden centre and fish shop (sorry, I have no idea what a purveyor of fish related products is called, an aquarist?) is worth a visit, and you can always take in some top notch tea room style nosh while you're there!

Located right opposite the swimming baths and gym, I always end up having a brew before a gym session. Being this side of Harborne, works to Boo Boo's advantage as you don't have to take a walk down the High Street which can seem like a mammoth task on a Sunday morning! Every time I have been in, it has been very busy. With a couple of outside tables and a massive window, it's great when the sun is shining on us. The Coffee is most excellent because they use Allpress espresso beans from London which gives their drinks a massive edge over most places some places in Birmingham. Single origin is offered though a Chemex, another brew method not often seen in the second city. If Coffee and Tea isn't your bag then I can recommend one of the many smothies they offer, which can have protein added to them. Boo Boo coffee is very family friendly and you can pop your little ones in the play area they provide. This place has been come a favourite place of mine to have some alone time or catch up with friends. Sure you will love it!

The shop is small and quirky. They do accept reservations so if you are going to visit with friends it's worth booking ahead. There's some seating outside too. The coffee served here is excellent. I couldn't see anywhere advertising the sort of beans or specifics used. The coffee does stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the best in Birmingham though. The store also serves typical brunch which is available all day long. If your looking for a quick coffee or some brunch in harborne I would highly recommend it here!

We had planned to eat outdoors but it was a little breezy and an empty table at the Apple Tree offered some shelter and so we grabbed the table. This is where things went wrong. The staff was not at all friendly when Mrs G went in to order (I was sitting outside with our beautiful Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix Ricky Martin) and the staff was not trained. After the order was placed they can out to ask which baked potato we had ordered (really - I told you!). When it came out it was ok - but £8 for a baked potato - huh!? And then the brought out the wrong panini (she specified NO cheese because she has to avoid salt). So Mrs G essentially left hers uneaten and I ate mine but was still starving. That delight with 2 sodas - over £24! Will we be back? To the marina yes, to the Apple Tree - no thank you!

As it was raining this afternoon we decided to grab a drink & came at The Appletree. A cafe in a beautiful setting next to the Marina with a high ceiling, fancy lights, mirrors and a baby grand piano. I had a glance at the cake counter there was a good selection of cakes but I decided to go for a cream tea. My partner wanted the same but with coffee. I had to pay extra for coffee but not much. We waited a little while for the drinks etc to come. The only thing that spoiler the tranquil setting was a child screaming which was amplified by the vaulted ceiling. My cream tea arrived, a large pot of tea with a fruit scone accompanied by jam & clotted cream. It was all lovely. Our visit was only marred by the noise of the child but that happens everywhere we go and the toilet being out of order and the nearest public toilet being at the top of the Marina. Glad the large pot of tea didn't take effect.
