I did go along to the social tennis on Tuesday night and found it fun. I enjoyed the doubles tennis and everyone was friendly. I lucked out because it was the first Tuesday of the month it was a barbecue night after the tennis - even desserts had been brought along to share! From what I could gather it was a very social tennis club with various events on throughout the year besides playing tennis, such as hosting a quiz night etc. For one reason or another I have not actually become a member. But Winstone Park Tennis will more than likely be the one, if and when I do decide to join a tennis club.

It's a calm oasis in there, with the most amazing air con and facilities you have seen in a gym. In fact I think gym is too much of a dirty word to associate with this pristine place. Because they keep a cap on membership, there is never a line for the equipment, the instructors are always on hand to dole out helpful advice and they even email to check up on you when you haven't been in for a few days. The facilities available to all members and casual members include a swimming pool, sauna room,a tennis court and a great range of weights/ exercise bikes and heaps of other exercise equipment. There are classes available too, a favourite of mine being tennis fit! And don't even get my started on the bathrooms, and the straighteners available, the shampoo/ conditioner\ bathrobes. They really have thought of everything. Why just the other day I got offered a free hour long facial and massage just for being a member. Have I tempted you yet?

It's in a good central location which is both near their home and their school so it is super handy. They have a large carpark but it is almost always full and they have crammed quite a lot of parks into the area so they are quite tight, I have always managed to get a park however. The place is massive, it has a shop that sells tennis clothing and equipment, huge outdoor courts as well as small indoor ones that people were using to practice by themselves and a small gym where they give training. The kids lesson is 1 hr 30 mins long so I have quite a long time to wait but even though they are different ages their lesson is at the same time which is really convenient. Sometimes I wait and watch them as there is outdoor seating provided but if it is a bit cold I drive down to Newmarket which is less that 5 mins away and I can shop for and hour...perfect!

They offer a good selection of weekday and weekend classes (not Barre). Mostly, the instructors have been excellent. Sometimes I play tennis - there are about 3 indoor and 8 outdoor courts, I think. My only complaint is they get booked up weeks in advance, which is ridiculous. Onsite cafe sells cabinet & hot food, also Allpress coffee which definitely gets them some brownie points! Next Gen staff have improved over the last few weeks, a lot more friendly and helpful than when I first joined. Great sauna, spa & pool facilities. Change rooms are due to be upgraded. Members are generally professionals and high-end. I enjoy the club, however it has a hefty price tag, so you need to go often!

So, I finally took the plunge and joined...my first ever gym! I wanted to try all of the facilities before writing a review just to see whether Next Generation really lived up to the hype. So far, the gym has been great, the Zumba classes challenging (but fun) and I went swimming today - it was very refreshing! But the best thing is definitely being able to play tennis! There are about 11 courts to choose from, and all you have to do is book the court in advance and voila, you're set for the day! And if it's sunny, jump in one of their pools to cool down - either the indoor one or the outdoor pool on the roof! Another great thing about the gym is that they have a cafe/restaurant onsite plus a lounge which is a great place to relax and unwind after a work out or come down to one of their monthly quiz nights! Highly recommend Next Generation - all the facilities are spot on plus you will have loads of fun!!!

Firstly, it's the perfect size - big enough that you feel like you're at the "tennis" but small enough that even if you are sitting in the nosebleeds (as we were) you still have a great view. I even forgot my glasses and still didn't have any troubles seeing the ball, which is really saying something. Secondly, the hospitality/food area set up out the back is great. This year they got Masu on board to provide a fancy food alternative, which I loved. Food at sporting events is normally so average - hot chips, hot dogs and the like - that it's an absolute treat to see a decent alternative for those willing to spend a little more coin. I have no idea what they use this stadium for year round - junior competitions I suppose - but I hope that it's maintained and continues to operate just as it did at this year's Festival of Tennis! For the last few years they have held the woman's ASB classic and the men's Heineken Open competitions in early January. As well as tennis competitions, the ASB tennis centre has coaching for people of all ages and allow non-members to come and hire their tennis courts for a period of time. There is a pro-shop on premise where you can buy all the latest tennis gear including rackets, balls even clothing. There is also a gym attached called 'Next Generation'. So if you're after a hit around, make your way down to this stunning new tennis centre in the heart of Auckland. You'll have a blast.

That's why whenever you go there to walk your dog or to just go for a mere stroll with a friend, you are likely to see the teams at practise on a Saturday morning playing a game or 10. The space is also great for little kids, they can run around for miles. And there is a relatively new and modern play ground set up, which also doubles as an exercise spot. It's a really neat place. I like to go there just to go for a walk and stretch my legs - get some fresh air. There are hills and plenty of stairs too, so it's a great place for a workout!

There are three soccer fields, well utilized by local teams. This park also has two tennis courts, playgrounds and clubrooms with toilets.

I always feel kind of bad when I play tennis with friends, as the level of frustration increases with each ball I fail to hit back. Maungawhau is a very basic set of tennis courts - there are three, on concrete, with nets. If other people are waiting, playing time is limited to 20 minutes, but if no one is waiting you can play for as long as you want. The courts are open all hours, but lack public lighting for night time games. The school kids from Ficino Primary School also use the courts during lunchtime and recess, so you may find your game interrupted by a pack of smartly dressed kids.
