For the touring car weekends, if you want a relaxing camping area, go for the family camp site. The other camping area can get noisy, and on an occasion we stayed there, the portaloos were vandalised by other selfish campers. One one other occasion there were nearly fights as people were blasting airhorns at 01.00 in the morning when noise was meant to be kept down after 23.00. Also the people with the airhorns had a very large fire pit blazing away while they sat and drank around it and made loads of noise. Fires, again, had to be extinguished by 23.00. on top of this, the security guards, decided to join them around the firepit and ignore what they were doing. As this party of men were causing upset, with the rest of the campers, other very annoyed campers went to the security office and complained about what was happening. The supervisor duly came and sorted things out. No idea if the security guards kept their jobs or not. These reasons are why we go to the family camping area. Thing are a lot more friendly and quiet. Everyone gets on there. Despite the problems I mention which was a few years ago, I still love going to Oulton Park. There are loads of great viewing points for watching the races. The first corner and Knickerbrook chicane always have good action and crashes. I will definately continue to go back even though it's a 3.5 hour drive. Be aware, the burger stalls and clothes stalls can be very expensive so either take a big wallet or a packed lunch.

You have the choice of a few bars and either a sit-down meal or pie and peas and the like from the kitchen. It's a good place to go in the summer as there's plenty of space to sit outside and it's always interesting to watch the people taking big money to the trackside bookies. I had not a clue that we had just round the corner the largest indoor and ONLY 3 level karting track in the UK. I was blown away as I spent the whole day mindlessly thrashing the kart around the track. Let me tell you, if you ever go, be prepared because it will exhaust the hell out of you, but GOD DAMNNNNN I haven't had so much fun in a long time. There's this one part of the track which had a dip. Now, if you accelerated fast enough after cornering well you could actually lift off and be airborne. That's cool enough but wait there's more...... post lift off and upon landing the rapidly rotating wheels give you a kick up the backside by shooting you down the straight at a rate of knots. Now no matter how many times I did it I couldn't get enough of that...eeeeeeeeeeek If you go with some friends I guarantee this is an absolute delight as a day activity. People get so competitive it's hilarious, myself included. As soon as you've done your allocated number of laps you leap out of your kart and race to the monitors to check your times. The prices are fairly reasonable and I think you can get discounts if you book a group, but if I remember correctly they are in the region of £30+ for an hour. You do find yourself pretending you are Schumacher no matter how hard you try not to. For first timers you have to do timed laps to build up confidence and technique, so you just arrive and drive, which is what we did. However as you get better you can compete in a grand prix style races. Thus in conclusion I recommend you just.....GO GO GO GOOOOOOOOOOO as Murray Walker would say...

Stag Do time had reared its head again, and we'd decided to start the day with a stint of…read morere-enacting Mario Kart without the Banana Skins n lightning bolts Go Karts are great, good fun for a small group or a larger group of people. Daytona are a professional setup, keep a handle on things without removing the fun. Think it cost us £50 a head, which got us a few practice laps, and a 40 minute race with each of us pairing up (so 20mins each on the track if you split evenly) and if you came in the top three Karts you got a trophy... I did not get a trophy, but I do not feel bad as my kart came in the middle of our leaderboard, and I also later found out the kart that won, one of the lads has a secret double life of actually racing karts for a team, which I'm sure means in all circles that I was in a professional race as an amateur, yeah that was definitely the reason for my posting. price tag for what is an hours worth of entertainment means it's not something I'd be chomping at the bit to do every week, but certainly as a suggestion for Stag do's and Parties it's definitely there as a top suggestion
