When I called to inquire (yes, I read the fine print and knew this was likely a scam, but curiosity got the better of me), I was told that wasn't actually the case. To find out what I had "really won," I would need to schedule an appointment to attend some event within the next few days. This is essentially the automotive equivalent of a Nigerian prince scam. Surprise this business has been shut down and they owe us about 10,000 dollars. We had been going back and forth for 4 months and spoke to about 5 different "managers". Basically they sold us a car under false pretenses stating that they would cover the remaining amount of our vehicle for trade in value and it would zero out. They WROTE the math in front of our eyes and all of it checked out. After signing at about 10 pm at night past closing, we found they charged us 5,000 for our trade in AND 4,000 for the warranty which they stated they canceled. We spoke to the warranty people and they did confirm is was cancelled but our financer stated no refund check was ever sent to them. So they pocketed the 4,000 and never refunded us. Now we are way over the 24,000 of the car and now are at 34,000. This is a review regarding a used car purchase from Thrifty. Please read before considering buying here. I just purchased a Tundra from Thrifty. We were in a negotiating window for 5 days because a 3rd party mechanic found an oil leak when I first saw the truck. Bret McDonald promised to have his team fix it and test for leaks before selling it. He also promised that if I found there was still a leak within the first week of owning it, he would take it back or fix it. I also spoke with Nick, the service lead for Thrifty. I asked Bret and Nick to confirm there were no oil leaks and that they had inspected the cam towers for leaks. They purported to do multiple checks and that there was no more leaks, and that the cam towers specifically were leak free. After all this happened, I purchased the vehicle and quickly noticed that I still smelled burning oil. I also got a check engine light 5 days in. had a mechanic inspect it 5 days after buying and they found that BOTH cam towers are leaking, and the check engine light is due to wiring harness malfunctions, and it was a wiring harness Thrifty had worked on. The repair bill is over $6K. I called Bret and Thrifty because I wanted him to fix the issues or take back the truck as he had promised. Bret was defensive and denied all liability, and then hung up on me before we had really had the chance to talk through resolutions. Thrifty has to this point broken every promise and agreement we made when negotiation, and has also proven that they and their service team either lied to me or are incompetent (or both). I am asking Thrifty to keep their word and work with me to resolve this but so far am not getting a response. I am working with an attorney and have submitted complaints to the BBB and the state of Idaho. Stop scamming people. I called over the phone twice to make sure that I didn't drive an hour for nothing. They said that I won a Prize because of the mail that I received and it turns out that only one code out of the "winners" was actually the prize winner. Nothing on the mail that I received stated that winning would only qualify me for a final confirmation code verification. I drove an hour with my injured wife just to find out that it was a scam. They sent me a card in the mail that revealed that i won a $2000 amazon gift card. I came to find out that this wasn't true. They just lured me into their place to high pressure me to trade in my 2013 Ford Mustang in for a 2021 Ford Mustang convertible that was way overpriced. They gave me a good deal for my trade in. However, in my opinion,they gave me a very unfair deal for the 2021 Ford Mustang convertible that they sold to me. They sold it to me for about $57,000 after taxes,warranties and other fees added. I later found out from my local Ford dealership in my town that the blue book value of the car was only about $33,000. The dealership said they were fair to me for the trade in value because they gave me about$3,000 over the trade in value for my 2013 Ford Mustang. However,the Ford dealership in my town said it appears that they were unfair about the selling price they charged me for the 2021 Ford Mustang convertible they sold me. It appears that they charged me about $21,000 over the Blue book value, If this is in fact the case, i was ripped off "bigtime. " They inform you that you won a $2000 amazon gift card that they send to you in the mail. However, when you get there they just high pressure you to trading in your car and sell you a car that is very overpriced and they never give you the $2000 amazon gift card. This is obviously a scam to sucker you into their schemes to take your car away from you and then selling you a very overpriced car with significant mileage on it. This car had 41,364 miles on it when i was high pressured by one of their sm*cks for buying it. I found out that the sticker price for the Ford Mustang convertible they sold to me when it was new was $52.900. It was sold to me for about $5,000 over the retail price when the car was new. This is a total scam with the fake gift card ticket and the outrages price they charge for a used car with a lot of F***ing miles on it. Avoid these f***ers like the plague. I checked their profile. Most the other people post similar complaints about the phony git card that just lures them into these peoples unethical selling tactics. These people are traveling sales people. They operate in tents. They don't care about you because they pick up and leave. they ever see you again. A different car company with the same name told me this. This other car business which has the same name who also operates in Idaho said that they filed a complaint on Thifty car Sales of Mountain Home because they had complaints from other people who thought that they were that same car company,but they were not. The other Thrifty Car Company told me that next time to buy from them because they treat their customers good. Thrifty Car Sales of Mountain Home also had unprofessional service. Their printer printed the sales receipt very poorly and also the fax report i requested from them. Their printer didn't have enough ink to print things where you could read it. Most of the cars I was interested in had dead batteries because of the elements. They gifted me some nice pens and Beverly was really nice to my family and I. I needed my rotors turned and had found this place to be fairly priced and honest for the previous three years. Unfortunately, they tried to take me to the cleaners stating I needed new brakes, rotors and tires. I actually went to the dealer for a second opinion and they confirmed what I already knew: just needed the rotors resurfaced. Not a surprise since the tires were only 20K old and regularly rotated at Costco and the brakes were over 5mm. The worst of it, they then charged me with a diagnostic fee when I only asked them to resurface the rotors (which they had done for me 40K miles earlier). A couple years ago I bought a car from them for the normal blue book price. I was pretty happy with it, and only had to have them do a couple repairs under a 3 month warranty. After the short warranty was up I took my car to the only certified mechanic that is in Boise and they asked me if it had been in an accident. I told them that the CarFax was clear but that I had noticed that the rear bumper didn't line up just right and one tail light was obviously newer. After I thought about it, I remembered that one time the Thrifty mechanic had said " Oh yeah that's the car that...." I left it alone and didn't think about it... Until my certified mechanic mentioned the badly repaired damage. Thrifty either bought the car damaged or damaged it on the lot and had it fixed without insurance which means it doesn't show on CarFax. It took $2k to properly fix the issues. Thanks to the mechanic that slipped up, I now know how crooked Thrifty is. It would have been a whole different story if Thrifty had told me what happened instead of looking out for their money.
