After a quick safety check and talk about where we were going we were off. He led us in and out of coves and over springs, pointing out birds, gators & turtles we would not have noticed without him. He told us interesting tidbits about the critters, history of the area and some very disheartening facts about the environmental degradation happening over the last few years around the Wacissa. First, the supplies were really nice (nice kayak, paddle, etc.) and fit me perfectly. Second, Tommy is a great teacher and tour guide! He made me feel very comfortable in the kayak and he gave me a few pointers which were instantly useful. Tommy also knows seemingly all there is to know about the wildlife (both above and below the water...definitely some gators out and about...), the lakes and the environmental challenges that they face. Went to the Rez with a group of friends today and had a phenomenal time. About half of us decide to canoe and the other half decided to kayak, I can safely say we all had a good time. We went a little past the Tallahassee museum & into the next big area, according to my friend their are 3 in total. Although we went so far out, our biggest concern seemed to be making sure that we didn't tip over or run into a tree. If you're someone who doesn't want to do anything that requires physical strength, which I usually don't, there's a man made sand bar and a roped off section that's supposed to function as a beach. Also a few tables for anyone who wants to have a picnic or anything of that such. I graduate in the summer, but I will most definitely try to do this again before my time in Tallahassee is up.
