A nice standalone store just north of Alpena's Downtown, you could possibly miss if you're driving too fast. I actually saw this driving on a weekday from work, but only had time to visit on the weekend. Around lunch time the place wasn't packed and just a couple customers inside and from their conversations sound like locals doing their weekly check in on new inventory. From the front they have a wall of funkos that greet you and an atrium that wraps around with old consoles from PS3/4's, Xbox's, Nintendo systems then their games. In the middle of all this is their grail/vault with all their high profile pokemon cards. Looking up a couple of them, they're about 5% off from their suggested price online which is really good. Def a place to pick rare cards from. Walking on the way up to the cash register they also have more games and consoles that are more recent. I believe at the time I'm writing this, Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 physically just released and it was in stock when I visited. Lastly they have the latest Pokemon TCG cards right on the counter when you're checking out which prompted me to buy one. Because why not. Really nice local shop and glad I found this little gem

This is a wonderful little museum in Alpena with some unique exhibits. They have a Foucault…read morependulum (only one of 5 in Michigan), a fine collection of Great Lakes Native American Artifacts, the original Besser block Machine, and limestone fossils. At certain times of the year, you can visit separate older buildings such as a bank and school. Also inside is a "old tyme" downtown Alpena with storefronts. It is really well done and well kept. Warning: if you are an animal lover, the lower level has a large amount of animals from a taxidermist that you may wish to avoid.

I headed here right after checking out of the lovely Dew Drop Inn, a motel I highly recommend if you are travelling. This store was a little hard to spot, mainly because of traffic on the main street and trying to be careful. I had to park about a block away--street parking only. It's an older building but a pretty big space with a lot of yarns and samples packed in it. I wish I'd gotten an indoor shot. I added a few skeins to my collection and got some advise on how to use some of them. I saw a pattern for a braided hat I really liked and the pattern was free with the yarn but the yarn was like $22 or so. I later found the same pattern in another store and town near Grand Rapids and they let me have the pattern with my purchase so after Xmas I want to try making it. After making my purchase I asked the lady (owner?) if there were any places she recommended to eat and she said she really liked the Cabin Creek Coffee Shop across the side street. Another score! I stopped back in here after my meal to thank her for the excellent referral.
