Blue Corn pancake and sausage link (2 tubes of syrup)
    Susan E.

A friend of 65 years and I planned a visit to Canyon de Chelly and stayed at the historic Thunderbird Lodge for 2 nights. We had 2 breakfasts and one dinner at the lodge cafeteria. I was pleasantly surprised by the improvements in how the cafeteria was run vs my previous visit. We ordered freshly cooked breakfasts both days vs the items available on the steam tables. The first day I had eggs and toast, and my friend had a buttermilk pancake with bacon. The pancake was so large that it completely filled her plate, adding was topped with a big dollop of butter. For the second breakfast, we both had blue corn pancakes. They were excellent. The sausage link I added to mine was very good. The food was prepared so quickly that it was delivered to our trays before we reached our table. For dinner, my friend and I shared the Navajo burger on fry bread (it was also available on a tortilla or bun). From prior experience, I knew the portion size would be way too big for one person. The burger (which was actually 2 large beef patties) came with lettuce and tomato and a choice of seasoned, regular, or sweet potato fries. At about $15, it was an excellent choice for a shared dinner with the extra plate we requested. The decor in the cafeteria remained unchanged from my previous visit. It's definitely on the dark side. The walls have photos of the canyon, and there's a small museum area that's worth a visit. This is a historic facility, but would do well with a bit of upgrading.

    Navajo taco. Excellent!

Excellent food! I had a small Navajo Taco that was superb and left me stuffed. The fry bread was some of the best I've had, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The toppings and salsa were great as well. My partner had a grilled ham and cheese sandwich. It was great as well. The ham was thick and tasty. We'll be going back for breakfast tomorrow.

Conveniently located at the Thunderbird lodge where we stayed, we came here quite a few times during our weeklong stay. Being one of the longstanding restaurants in the area you'll see a mix of visitors and locals at this establishment. I preferred the made to order items. Their Navajo Burger, traditional burger, served with onion rings were our favorites. Their fry bread was excellent but if you prefer a healthier, lighter option their homemade tortilla makes a great substitute. For breakfast they make great omelettes and pancakes to order. I thought that their off menu breakfast burrito was also very tasty!

Stopped in for dinner after a long day driving and visiting Canyon de Chelly. The restaurant is cafeteria style and the food was delicious!!! The Sunday special was lasagna and it was great! I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich from the menu. Made when ordered and done in 5 minutes. Prices were good and the portions were huge for the price. The lasagna was $11.50 and came with a vegetable or salad and a roll. My new go to when in Chinle.

I ate here for breakfast and dinner while staying at the lodge. The facility was clean and the employees were friendly and helpful. Food is served cafeteria style or you can order off the menu. I enjoyed my breakfast (hash browns, sausage, and fruit) but I wasn't pleased with my dinner. I ordered a rib eye steak, cooked medium, but it came out well done. If you eat here skip the steaks and stick to what's already prepared.

Haven't eaten here in years. Food is served cafeteria style and some dishes are cooked-to-order. Food was hot, delicious and service was great! Drinks are self-served and staff were all wearing their PPEs. The self-serve desert case is closed off to customers for safety purposes, the staff handles all the food.

Had a last minute stop and found this lodge. Love that it's away from traffic hotel staff awesome. Kitchen staff was accommodating. Food was delicious ate dinner two days roast chicken and smothered steak. Red velvet cake was yummy. If you are looking for a place that quiet this is the place.

After receiving our drinks, no one came back to take our order. We eventually flagged down a waitress (who was apologetic) to take our order. And, yes, as other reviews have mentioned, our orders came out in stages. Pro tip: order off the Pizza Hut menu, as those items all came out first. Like, significantly, first... We also ordered some local dishes, which were all tasty. The Indian fry bread was warm and very tasty. The lamb stew was very hearty. The restaurant appeared clean and organized. Just maybe some more servers, or something.

This is a combo restraint that is the both the Junction and Pizza Hut combined. We were promptly seated and our orders were taken. It took a while for our meals to arrive and for the most part they were very good. The steaks were great, however the baked potatoes were refrigerator cold inside. They did offer and provide a side of fries to make this right. The sheepherder was a good beef sandwich but the fry bread was dripping oil. As a note we were some of the last customers before closing and I think they had started shutting down the kitchen before we arrived. We were thankful that they were open and we got served. If we were to pass through the area again we would give it another try .

Wow! Best food I've had in a long time!…read more I came for the historic hotel on the way home from Telluride to Scottsdale. There didn't seem to be much around to eat that was open on a Sunday so I came to the hotel restaurant. I saw lots of people had the chips so ordered the trio dip appetizer. The guac was definitely my favorite. So flavorful and fresh! The salsa was delicious but a little extra spicy and the queso was yummy! I ordered a cup of the green chile pork stew and it was spicy but delicious, a little light on the pork but very good. I got the Rita Moreno three chicken enchiladas with green chile. Best chicken enchiladas I've had in a long time! The chicken was moist and had just the right amount. Excellent flavor and melted cheese. The rice and beans were very bland. My friend got the chicken mole and got light sauce but she wished she had got the full sauce because it was that good! The whipped potatoes and sautéed veggies were the perfect accompaniment. I wish this place was where I lived because I would eat here as often as I could. Great atmosphere and service too. Had fun wandering around the gift shop after.

We went to the bar and waited for our table. The place was packed due to several motorcycle clubs from all over the country doing the Route 66. When we were finally seated, the first off-putting thing was our waitress. She was chewing a wad of gum and it was gross. I had a burger as did my friend. Our husbands ordered different types of pasta. We asked our gum chewing waitress for water 3 times. "Oh sorry, I'll bring it". Nope, a food runner finally brought us water. We asked for mayo 2 times. Nope. The same food runner brought it. By then, our food had been on the table for 15 minutes. The fries could have been cooked another 3 minutes. Not really crispy. The pasta was decent.

Still, the food was filling and the service was good. The view during dinner was amazing and served to distract us from the less-than-stellar meal. I recommend it for the view.

Loads of amazing American indian artifacts, gifts, pottery, jewelry and so much more. Hence we noticed the restaurant. It's towards the end of it. I think there's also an entrance from the hotel, which is part of it. We walked in to check out the menu and decided to try it out. Checked in with the hostess and added our name to the waitlist. It was about 20-25 minutes. It was fine, more time to browse the store. There's also an area that you could wait outside with a view of the mountains and plains but it was dark and pitch black. Once we were buzzed and seated. The table already had a carafe of iced water on it. All the tables did. Menu wise, limited but some nice dishes. Don't know if it changes seasonal or it's the same menu. Food wise, went with the Arizona fried chicken. Three pieces tossed in a southwestern batter and deep fried. Served with jalapeños slices. Also a choice of fries, mash potatoes or white rice and seasoned veggies which was corn. And a piece of grilled Arizona bread which is similar to pita bread. Chicken was quite nice and juicy. Batter was good, not too much of it and a nice crunch. It was quite nice. Also had a bowl of soup which was like chicken tortillas without tortilla chips. That was quite nice as well. And an order of the chili beans con carne. A southwestern favorite which was a bowl of chili with shredded cheese and onions and served a side. The beef was flavorful and very hearty. Food was good, service was great. All the staff were very friendly. We asked about breakfast but it's only served for hotel guest. As well as meals after 7pm. Also, they don't have alcohol. Non alcoholic, yes.
