This place is always bustling and it's easy to see why. It's reasonably priced, filling, delicious, authentic Lebanese food on Sydney Road in Brunswick. My friend and I arrived close to 8pm on a Saturday night and had about a 10-minute wait for our seats. I ordered the vegetarian plate, which was MASSIVE and actually came out on TWO plates! Almost everything included in the vegetarian plate is vegan (and my friend ate the non-vegan stuff -- the cheese pie and cucumber yoghurt dip). For $18, you get garden salad, tabouli, chickpea salad, yogurt-cucumber dip, hummus, baba ganoush, fried cauliflower, 4 falafels, 1 vine leaves, 1 cheese pie, 1 spinach pie, and 1 zaatar pizza. Honestly, it felt like it was too much for one person -- it feeds two light eaters, or one and a half regular eaters. So this place is great for sharing. Everything was delicious. The hummus was milder than expected, a real crowd-pleaser because it's the type of hummus that appeals to everyone. The falafels were unlike any falafels I'd ever had -- they were actually super-soft and broke apart when you bit into them. Most falafels err on the side of being too dry, not too soft. These were almost too soft for my liking! But they're definitely yum. As for the dolma, I don't actually like dolma but this one was DELICIOUS and I wished the vegetarian platter came with more than one. The fried cauliflower was nice as well -- cauliflower fans will love it. The garden salad, tabbouli, pickled turnips, and chickpea salad were all light and fresh and healthy. I would've liked a bit more chickpea salad and a bit less garden salad, though. You get pita bread on your table for all the dips as well -- but good luck getting through more than a few pita breads each! Everything is sooooo filling. My friend and I felt like it was a monumental effort to finish our food -- like running a marathon, but an eating marathon. You have to pace yourself, ha! Interestingly, my friend is a hardcore meat-eater and he said he preferred the food on my vegetarian platter more than the food that came with his meat platter! They have a variety of beverages but nothing alcoholic (which makes sense given the crowd who comes here seems predominantly Middle Eastern and presumably Muslim). I had a mulberry drink with an Arabic name that was probably 99.98% sugar and 0.02% mulberry and probably sent me into a pre-diabetic shock but I'm claiming it as a "cultural experience." They have desserts as well but I doubt many of them were vegan. I didn't ask though -- the mulberry drink was dessert enough for me! My only gripe with Tiba's was the noise level. It's a crowded place and it was hard for my friend and I to hear each other over the din. It's also too glaringly lit -- I felt like the lights were super-bright and right in my eyes all nice. Maybe it's where we were sitting. But it's definitely not a place for a quiet romantic date. But who cares? The food was tasty, the price was right, and the portions were massive. Bring your stretchy pants, and your friends. Tiba's is all about the gigantic portions and it begins before you've even ordered anything! While you're looking through the menu an overflowing basket of super fresh lebanese bread will be places on table. Resist it, because later in the meal you've going to curse that "one little slice" you nibbled on while deciding if you wanted felafel, lamb or chicken. We arrived at around 7pm mid week and the place was heaving with people. We waited around 15 minutes for a table but took that time to eye off every dish leaving the kitchen in an attempt to help us decide on what to have. It didn't help much, because everything looked delicious. In the end we shared a couple of dishes, the lamb shwarma and the chicken kebabs, and really struggled to finish it all. The dips, salads and meat were amazing scooped up with pieces of that flat bread and we both wondered why we hadn't made a visit here prior. Tiba's is great for big groups (book ahead) who are after a delicious and cheap meal in a family friendly environment. They also offer takeaway, so if you want to cater your next party cheaply then this could be a great option. read more

Any day of the week you can find glorious quantities of affordable afghan food - platters both meat and vegetarian - open late enough for a late dinner, probably not the 2am kebab. An no alcohol, sorry, that's what the rest of Sydney Rd is for. Tragically quaint surroundings - curtains, colours and wall hangings aplenty. It may take a few more minutes to get your food on busy nights, but it is on its way and it is worth it, especially for the price. read more

Great hospitality. You can order at the front and take away or get seated and order from the same menu. We had shish kebabs, rice, and chicken kebabs. Everything was cooked perfectly and the seasoning was exactly what I expected. The servers checked on us to make sure we were satisfied with our meal. The place was busy with a very diverse group of patrons. There is a prayer room in the back of the restaurant. I recommend this place for anyone interested in Middle Eastern flavours. read more

The tables have little numbers on them, much like an apartment, 10, 10B, and so -on. The servings are quite large and very filling, but come with a mixture of meat, salad, and dips. There's a big mountain bucket of pita bread that's served on the side. Service is quick attentive but still caring. All it needs to be in a place like this where people come for a hearty meal. lots of families and big tables, even more people eating/getting take-away; this line is non stop and doesn't seem to end. We arrived at 8 pm and the place was packed, as was the takeaway line....always a good sign! Even better we were seated right away and the food came out really fast. We ordered the tibas platter and the vegetarian platter, way too much for 2 people but a great way to sample a little of everything and not have to share dips ;) food was flavorful and meat was cooked to perfection. Today we went there ,my better half asks about the size of the chips ,the guy shows him the container they come in ,he orders x large chips and 2 sharwmas ,when he gets it and looks in the bag he sees its a large chips and not a x large one ,he confirm the guy about that its not what he payd and orderd ,he orderd an x large chips and the guy says thats the x large and keep laying about it ,istead of saying sorry and change the chips ,he keept laying about it.... If you want pepole to come back and spend money ,you bettter step up the service and treath pepole better,and the lamb shawarma wasnt all that . For a long time, Tiba's was one of my favourite restaurants. The authentic Lebanese flavours kept me coming back for more, each time bringing more friends to experience the affordable large servings of traditional Lebanese cuisine. The fresh Tabbouli salad is definitely my favourite part of the Tiba's dining experience, but their variety of meats, dips and platters cater to different tastes. I know that when I come here i'll leave full and satisfied, without any major affect on my wallet. The only thing that lets Tiba's down is the service. This is a little off, I'm not sure if their staff have much (or any) training about customer service and hospitality 101. Having said that, it's not bad enough to stop me from coming back. read more

Cheap Lebanese food? I'm there! Living so close, decided to check it out after my housemates continually raved about it. Definitely a winner! The portions are MASSIVE (about the size of a small baby if you will) and the flavours are yummy! I had the falafel plate which was offensively cheap. Despite being incredibly busy with end of Ramadan celebrations, the customer service and food was first rate. Food made with pride and care such as this is not so easy to find. I have been coming here for years and it has always been this good. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options as well as mountains of meat for those of the carnivorous persuasion. Couple all this with a genuine and welcoming atmosphere and I'd say you would be hard pressed to find a better place for dinner. Whilst they don't have a liquor license, this isnt an issue given the proliferation of pubs and bars on Sydney road. Tiba's is my only recommendation if you are thinking Lebanese. read more

Smooth smokey babaganoush, and the taboulli was fresh and jam packed with parsley (unlike many other places that pass off a mixed salad as "taboulli"). The fresh felafels were delicious. I had been coming to Tibas for more than 20 years. I am so disappointed that the last 5 times have been so bad that I stopped going. Bad (rude and slow) service, very gristly (and two times cold) meat and getting the dish and order wrong. Also putting the wrong sauce on the wrong dish and not getting what you order. It is sad, but now I know why many of Tiba's original Lebanese clientele prefer places in Coburg that are better quality and original. read more
