We ran across this Tibetan restaurant as we were leaving the tourism office--it's located right off the square in the city center. It wasn't open when we walked by but the menu looked so delicious that we made a point to come back for dinner after visiting the sanctuary and it was well worth it! The food was delicious and filling and the staff were extremely kind (and didn't even mind us butchering the french language as we tried to order). They provided English language menus and the menus included detailed lists of all allergens in the dishes, which made it extremely easy for me to avoid anything that might trigger my peanut allergy, always a concern when traveling! The restaurant interior was attractive, interesting, and clean, and the bathrooms were also extremely clean and well kept (which we noticed and appreciated after days of using tollway rest stop bathrooms). The clientele seemed to be a mix of tourists and locals, which confirmed to us that we'd made an excellent restaurant choice as soon as we arrived.
We ordered the butter tea (exciting, salty, extremely rich) and the Himalayan tea (delicious, sweet, and much more like what our taste buds are accustomed to); the curry chicken, which was delicious and had a lot of pineapple in it, which was a surprising and tasty touch; three different soups; and a noodle dish. Everything was delicious, fresh, and interesting. The table next to us had a couple of different types of dumplings that we wished we had ordered!
Overall, we can't recommend this restaurant enough for a fabulous, filling meal after a long day of visiting the sanctuary or the surrounding hills! You're sure to feel comfortable and find something you will enjoy. read more
